I've only played one game in which a Theives' Auction was resolved, and I will never forget how funny it was. I was at very low life, and the guy directly after that turn decided to kill me with my own commander... to which, I said "okay" and began picking up all my lands... which were on his board.

Reminds me of this one game of Five Star I played YEARS ago. The guy after me was playing a really annoying mono-red that used a buncha cards mentioned here and enchantments since the wipes he chose couldn't wipe them. Before that started going off I killed out non-mutual enemy and the game actually dragged on so long due to him blowing up the board and other shenanigans he forgot and won me the game by killing out mutual enemy first! Easily my favorite game of Magic.

I'll admit my own mistake here doing that. My Norin/confusion in the ranks had stolen a lot of beefy creatures. I then proceed to take the beatdown guy first. Lost about half my board. Smooth move, smart guy.

Something that causes a bit of salt but a ton of laughs is watching a beatdown player take the game. There's always at least 1, usually 2 combo players that don't have a problem losing to an infinite combo but heaven forbid they take a few hits from 8+ power creatures.

      @helioscomis3732 4 роки тому +2

Linear creature based aggro decks are pretty powerful in multiplayer due to how unassuming they look prior to them doing something that makes them ridiculous. I think the only reason most people get upset is because they see the beat-down player as not playing the team aspect of commander and basically free loading off the other interactive decks. When you play a pod with combo and there is one player whose deck can't interact with that combo and it forces you and the other players to extend yourself to prevent the combos while said beat-down player just forces your life totals down it can be a little grating.

I would say the the throughline on these cards is that most of them, if left unanswered, effectively end the game--but many don't, in fact, end the game on the spot. If you don't like to/know when to concede, you won't like playing against most of these.

With the land destruction, I do run some of it. Green is very strong in EDH, and one of the main reasons is that greens main game plan (land ramp) isn’t punished. Most other colours do have hate for their main themes but because so many people hold lands as a sacred resource, green gets a free pass for doing a lot of broken stuff. I’m quite happy to have some land hate especially if our playgroup is going green heavy.

Not sure if this will be read... "Rising Water" is a blue enchantment (3U) that reads: " Lands don't untap during their controllers' untap steps. At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player untaps one land that player controls." If you want a white version on a stick: "Holori, Dust Drinker" (2WW) does the same on a 2/2 body.
This slows everybody down if you don't have a way to untap all your lands with other means, like "Prophet of Kruphix", "Wilderness Reclamation", "bear umbra", "Magus of the Candelabra" or "Nature's Will". You could even make all lands creatures and add an "Intruder Alert"

    My top:
1: Ciclonic rift (nearly obligatory in any blue deck, and is not cheap)
2: Flash (turn one cheap win whithout any chance of interaction some times)
3: gaia cradle (way to mandatory in any green deck for its price)
4: winter orb, stasis, back to basics (if you are going to make ma play a 1:30 hour game untaping 1 land per turn, just infinite comboo and win me on the spot, its just boring, and for 2-3 mana, sometimes you cant interact with it)
5: thieves auction, hall of gemstone, reality twist, naked singularity, scrambleverse (20 min resolving one spell and you didnt advanced the game in any way, is just a waste of time)
6: mindslaver (a card designed to target just one player, making the others dont targeting it, and you and up with no window to respond, and you cant surrender at sorcery speed, making it rude to not leaving a game you havent played in 9 turns...)

Oh boy, had a deck that I feel bad about looking back.
One of my first commander decks when the format was relatively new was a Jhoira of the Ghitu deck. Gameplan was suspending a giant eldrazi and then using extra turn spells to tick the time counters faster. As soon as a beefy creature was suspended, you would use the land destruction and board wipes to buy time before the big boys dropped. It was horrifying. As soon as I started playing it I realized the salt was warranted. The playstyle just didn't fit the casual nature of my playgroup and the format in general.

  • @Alice_Haukea
    @Alice_Haukea 4 роки тому +5

I mostly agree with this list. Though I also feel that people just tend to complain about everything. Yes, setting up a bunch of cards that freeze/lock out the game are worthy of making people salty. But then there are other cards listed here that people really just need to learn how to play around. By no means am I some skilled player, (i'm actually pretty mediocre) but I'm not going to get salty over someone having expensive cards or mildly annoying effects.
People get so upset about others using proxie cards, but then if they are gonna still be upset about expensive cards either way, then really all it is is them being jealous they cannot afford the better versions of things themselves.
Avacyn is annoying, not salty. A simple and budget cost card like Path to Exile deals with her. Mass removal such as Merciless Eviction deals with her. Forced sacrifice deals with her. She is really strong no doubt, but she has many openings.
Other than stax and land destruction effects, I feel that everything else is tolerable in reasonable amounts. Again, I just think players like to find something to complain about.

watching this, like every card is in a deck of a friend or myself. yes, one friend even has a foreign tabernacle he paid $350 for. didn't know the level of toxicity that exudes from our table. I used to run atraxa but have toned down the hate a bunch. I now run Rashmi for some fun double casts. rhystic study is in that deck, along with time stretch, ulamog, and a few others in this video. My atraxa was AIDS compared to Rashmi though.

Vorinclex was my favorite card back in the day when I played magic. I played a deck that was based around stupid mana generation and huge creatures that were hard to stop if the opponent anything other than control decks. There were only 4 non-permanents in that deck: Genesis wave and a card that I do not remember, but also did something similar. I remember in one game where I got Vorinclex out on turn 2, which basicly ended the game right then and there, because most people where still generating 2-3 mana a turn. The salt that day was real.

Funny you mentioned that we actually have a well know rule in our edh group if you vorinclex before turn 4 you get hit with a chair, we haven't had to do it yet but it will 100% happen if someone does and it's been a well know rule for 3 years.

  • @INFJ-A.
    @INFJ-A. 4 роки тому

I pulled a Vorinclex from a GameStop's only IMA booster not knowing how much of a threat it can be. I put it in my deck, mainly focused on the mana doubling aspect while thinking "Eh, someone always has a method of removal, this can't be bad." I was wrong about that in our PG's meta. Whenever I summon Vorinclex, the table goes on full alert to Avengers Level Threat and jumps me lol

I like how they hit practically every card that I’ve ever seen people groan at in commander. There is not a single card on this list that I have not seen used to murder a game. And with the cards in commander always expanding, there’s always a new annoying commander card that comes out.

Mine is Thieving Amalgam. Its a pain in the neck in any game I play, but what really took the cake was when Thieving Amalgam was combo'd with an ability to manifest ALL of the creatures in my graveyard.
So rather than being killed traditionally, my friend took 8 creatures and played them as morphs, those died to board wipe, I took 16 damage and he gained 16 life, he then recovered the card from graveyard, played it *again,* another board wipe from a different player trying to survive dealt 16 more damage and killed me. 😒
I don't hold grudges between games, but as soon as Thieving Amalgam or Smothering Tide comes out, all bets are off hahaha

I find comboing off from nowhere annoying, particularly when it comes at the end of a 20 minute turn, but the thing that bristles most is someone thumbing through my library to take my best creature - even more so if they've just been munching on a hot dog, or chips and have greasy fingers!

    Liquid Metal Coating and Splinter.
When going up against a mono colored deck, use Liquid Metal Coating to turn one of their forests (or whatever) into an artifact as well as still being a forest. Then, use Splinter to remove target "artifact" from the game, then also search their hand, graveyard, and library to remove all other cards of the same name (Forest!) from the game.
Only lands left are the ones on their battlefield. 😈

    My sins, by category
    Stax and Tax:
    1. Stasis: I did that once. In Gaybros group hug. There was apparently a betting pool on howl long it'd take me to put Stasis in there. Someone one a draft set.
    2. Winter Orb: In Urza. Everybody hates it, especially when I tap it to float a blue at the end of the round.
    3. Static Orb: In Urza. Ditto.
    4. Back to Basics: In Urza.
    Unfair advantage:
    1. Elesh Norn: Yep. In Gaybros Hugs
    2. Cyclonic Rift: Every Blue deck I've built.
    3. Aura Shards: Gaybros had some enchantment themes at one point. Aura Shards was nice there.
    4. Consecrated Sphinx: I ran it in Baral. And then one time I managed to Windfall with it down. Woof.
    5. Seedborn Muse: Gaybros Hugs.
    6. Avacyn, Angel of Hope: Gaybros Hugs.
    Rules changes:
I have a Gaddock Teeg, but I've never used it. I hosted a draft, and it was in the box.
    Chaos:
    1. Warp World. It and its cousin The Great Aurora appeared in Gaybros.
    Buying your wins:
    1. The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale: It's in Urza. Elves players hate it.
    2. Gaea's Cradle: It's in Ayula. It's what I pull out for a casual game. Oddly, while Cradle is very good in this deck, this deck isn't really doing much ridiculous bullshit with it.
    3. Mana Drain: It's in Urza. Players with Ulamog in their libraries hate it.
    4. Ugin, the Spirit Dragon: I've run him in Baral and Gaybros. I have a playset from drafting a ton of Fate Reforged.
    I win:
    1. Omniscience: in Gaybros
    2. Blightsteel Colossus: I did that in a Baral variant.
    3. Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre found itself in my Gaybros deck, but I wasn't intending to cast it. It was anti-mill tech, but it came out the moment I Oath of Druids'ed into it.
    In "That's just annoying":
    1. Rhystic Study: Did you pay the 1? (I've put it in every Blue deck I've ever built.)
    Annoying Commanders:
    1. I've actually played the Atraxa precon. I bought it when it came out. But I've kept it stock all these years.

Last weekend one of my friends got a Dragon Mage into play in a three-player game. I had blockers, but the third player did not. So he just swung with it at her every turn, so we had to dump our hand every turn. Possibly the most frustrating game I've played in a long time, combined with his inordinate amount of removal spells to immediately nullify every creature I played, it was a severe pain in the ass and the game took almost two hours. I still won, but it was one of those wins where you are just so miserable you can't enjoy it.

I knew a guy with a tabernacle winter orb deck, and since it is taboo to use land removal, nobody could deal with it and it usually ended with everybody conceding and requesting that he doesn't play that deck in the next game. His deck had no creatures and would kill everybody with enchantments and artifacts while they could do literally nothing but draw and discard on their turn.

I play EDH with a group of friends and I made a dimir ninja deck that focuses on bouncing, etb/ltb effects, and battlefield control for handling creatures. One of my friends decided to make a jund aristocrats deck with a Korvold commander which is usually manageable most of the time until he brings out either Grave Pact or Dictate of Erebos. If i haven't managed to counter it or gotten a lucky snag with Fallen Shinobi or Gonti then I'm fucked cos I won't be able to keep any creatures out long enough to get to my next turn. Being dimir i don't have much in the way of enchantment removal, but luckily everyone else absolutely hates those cards too and they often do have ways to get rid of it. By then he'll have a 15/15 Korvold anyways and about 6 other creatures. Oh, and he also has some graveyard retrieval that can target any card type, so it's not hard to guess what he'll be bringing back with that
