So rather than spending an hour getting the breather box off and back on again, I watch this video and stopped at halfway through and had that battery out in less than 2 minutes.
Sir, you are a God among men.😎👍

Thanks for the video. Just changed out the battery in my 2014 Focus 2.0L. This is definitely easier than removing the air box. My car had two covers above the battery - one similar to yours covering the front 2/3 and a separate one over the rear 1/3. Both are easy to remove. Also, after removing the positive terminal, I removed the negative terminal on the shock tower (1:58) with a 12mm wrench, then loosened the negative battery terminal. This allowed the whole negative cable to be removed which I found made it a lot easier to remove the old battery and also prevented damage to the battery monitor (which is connected to the negative battery terminal cable). Pulling up the front of the plastic box about 1/2 inch to "break" the box corners was definitely necessary as that slight bit of extra clearance was needed to fit the new battery in. Once the new battery is in, the battery monitor system needs to be reset: Turn the key to "on" (not start), find the battery light on the dash. Then turn on the high beams 5 times (just pull back the signal light stalk 5 times). Then press the brake pedal 3 times. Watch the battery light on the dash - after 5-10 seconds it will flash indicating the battery monitor has been reset.

Always take the negative terminal off first and put it back on last!

you dont need to the absolute only reason stated for doing that is so there is only one chance of a spark if you do it so less chance of a fire. You would only do that if you had fumes about.

Bolt on frame, then Negative post, then last positive to remove. Install is opposite order. Be careful too!

I just changed my battery in my 2016 ecoboost. I just took off the cold air box lid and filter. And I had a little bit more wiggle room. I would recommend brushing some dielectric grease on your terminals after new battery replacement.

Autozoner here and take whatever I say with a grain of salt because I’m no expert. What I like to do with these is disconnect the ground from the chassis first and then the side panel after I take the air box off. It may take a little more time to remove these items but you have infinitely more space to work. Ik these aren’t the worst to do but if you go into these with no experience they suck ass. Good video. 👍🏻

very helpful video, but i would recommend disconnecting the ground wire from the chassis first to avoid inadvertant shocks. i speak from personal experience.

Whats the size of that battery? Meaning height lenght width. My battery died this cold morning and I need to take it off and try to charge it indoos if it helps. My battery is 175mmx175mmx315mm and wondering if its gonna get out too without taking the airfilterbox. Not looking forward to that job tomorrow, so cold :(

Thanks man. I did not want to pop that breaker box and shroud off. I was like there gotta be a way I can jiggle this bastard out without wasting another 20 minutes.

Well, that was the easy part. Does anyone know how to reset the BMS (battery monitor system) after fully charging and installing a new battery, WITHOUT a scan tool? I know it's simple and easy to do, because I hunted the directions down once before (local dealer wants $$$ for a 30-second task), after replacing the battery on Mom's 2014 SE failed to stop the regular battery "issue" warnings on her car's display. But I've just done a web search, and the only procedures I could find reference the use of the rear fog light switch, which obviously US-market vehicles do not have.

Dont forget BMS reset ( the small wire going to the neg terminal module shows you have BMS)

Thank you. I was looking at Advance Auto for the new battery and they say on the website PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION required. I am like what in the world is required that needs a professional to do this. Watched another video where they are taking that section of the engine apart. WOW. is that something I really want to do.Maybe I should make an appointment at the Ford Garage.
I was also looking at the negative terminal? (the one that is harder to reach) has a little corrosion on it so I will need to clean that as well and I am sure that the sales people will push that I need new terminals as well (not going to happen) or when they have it apart wont clean the terminals either while it is easy to access at that point.
Just wished it was not near freezing while doing this..

Why is it always freezing cold whenever we try to do any simple task on our car? Hahaha good luck

@@taylorstools777 I should have checked the time I started. but start to finish it took 1 hour 45ish minutes. I also removed the back top cover to the battery compartment. It came off easily, but getting it back on was not as fun but still well worth the extra room to access the negative terminal.
Had a horrible time disconnecting the negative side (I see that you had to fast forward through that as well) . With the corrosion I'm guessing it would not allow me to easily lift the cable off the battery. I wonder if there is a tool that is made for prying it off in that awkward position) Then once that was disconnected, since there was a computer sensor there I had to carefully use the baking soda water to remove the acidic corrosion without ruining the sensor (approx 30-60 minutes with that alone) using several qtips. With all that since I am tall, my back started aching so I kept moving around trying to find a better position to work without needing the chiropractor when I am done. Took several breaks as well. But its done, hope this battery lasts for another 9ish years.

Never positive first, always negative first on a negatively grounded car. Air box removal makes it easier!

How so? It's not like you'll need to swap batteries every week. Admittedly, the mid-'60s Dodge I owned was a joy to work on - which is good, because I found myself doing so relatively often. The battery was easy to reach (and to check/add water to... regularly). So were the valves, come to think of it, which is good because they required adjustment. I didn't need to remove the coil (singular) to change spark plugs, which is good because they didn't last nearly as long (hint: once upon a time, we had spark plug *cleaning* tools, because it was not unusual to clean and regap spark plugs... since they didn't last 80,000 to 100,000 miles without maintenance/replacement).
The price for all that "convenience?" Well, the car weighed 5,000 pounds. On a good day, with gentle throttle application, in between towns on the highway, it would sometimes get as much as 14.5 MPG. If someone stepped into the road in front of you, they'd end up underneath the car instead of on its hood. The crumple zone was the person inside. Et cetera.
Personally, I find being slightly inconvenienced because the maintenance that I do - 1/3 to 1/12 as often - can sometimes take a few minutes longer... to be a non-issue.
