I may or may not have received the most overwhelming urge to write this.
Prompt: Stede Bonnet is an unpopular theater kid. He often plays a parent, comedic role or the dame (Or all simultaneously.) He enjoys dressing up in fashionable, sophisticated attire. He also has smaller interest in rock punk music but isn't an entirely skilled musician. He gains harassment from his father for putting so much commitment into his acting and abuse from classmates for his attire and appearance. This causes him deeply rooted self esteem issues and difficulty in following his enjoyment for acting. This causes him a significant slip up mid-performance. A panic attack.
He quits theater, deciding to peruse his interest in punk rock, spontaneously purchasing a solid electric guitar. A few friends who try to dissuade him from this, his theater peers are frustrated that he'd quit after one mishap, this spurs him forward to have guitar lessons. This is where he meets rock enthusiast and young guitar expert Ed Teach.
Ed has been a closeted fan of Stede's acting for several years, thinking him funny and skilled, often secretly watching the school's plays with much intrigue. Since he was young, panto and theater had always been a dream for him, however he felt like he would never fit such crowds of people and was quite stage fright. He fell into the punk-rock rabbit hole and formed a band with his, equally punk enthralled, friends: Queen Anne's Revenge or Q.A.R. They soared to popularity for their music, both in their school and surrounding area. He played electric guitar and provided backing vocals.
Their music was what originally spurred Bonnet's musical interest in the specific punk genre, however he had never seen them live or knew precisely what they looked like. Hence, Stede's unknowing introduction to school royalty, guitar genius, his inspiration and unknowing fanboy Edward Teach was more than shocking. They keep their friendship quiet. Ed (he has no Blackbeard, obviously) is curious of the weird drama kid with a new found desire for music and Stede notices his new friend's fascination for the school's current play. They eventually fall into an... arrangement. Ed teaches Stede everything he know's about music and Stede tutors him in the upcoming school play...
This story would be a slow burning, admirers to friends to lovers, they help each other over come the pressures of their lives and insecurities. They grow and learn new things about each other and themselves, fall in love and face the struggles that brings, but they remain together through it all. By the end a new group of much less pressuring, toxic group of friends have formed around our main couple and it's a happy ending.
(TLTR: Gay highschool au plot. I hope my spelling, writing and grammar is up to scratch.)
He was a punk, she did ballet
I will never be over ...
✨"I may be landed genTRY, but i'm THRILled to be granted entry"✨
💀💀💀
9 months later and I still look that scene up specifically every few months lol. Always cracks me up.
the "mmm whatcha say"s really got me lmao
"Muse, why have you forsaken me?" is such an underrated line
he really would be a theater kid 💀
Stede in the black turtleneck absolutely killed me 😂
Ah the theatrical kid wants to be tough and play sports without coming out and the jock wants to sing and dance without losing his rep... wait they’re like Kurt and Finn in glee!
Your editing makes it more hilarious 😁
he’d be such a mama mia and Sondheim nerd
he’d show ed how to be a theatre kid
I didn't know that I needed a OFMD/Company crossover, but it turns out that's exactly what I needed.
I was DYING at ‘Company’!💀 Stede is completely Bobby - until he turns into Amy in episode 9!
And of course Stede would be a Sondheim™️ gay: when I was in school we were both the judgy & gritty ones as opposed to those Webber *Solo-ists*.
And our ‘Bobby baby’ Stede is both judgy, & he thinks of himself as gritty, bless
You are a genius💜🌈🏴☠️
I also love the fact that Rhys Darby HAS worked on theater
Stede ep 9: 🎶Listen everybody, I'm afraid you didn't hear Or do you want to see a crazy fella fall apart in front of you? It isn't only Ed who would be ruining his life
You know, we'll both of us be losing our identities. I talked to Oluwande all about it, and he said to see him Monday, but by Monday I'll be floating in barbados with the other garbage.
I'm not well, so I'm not getting married
You've been swell, but I'm not getting married
Clear the hall, 'cause I'm not getting married
Thank you all, but I'm not getting married
And don't tell Ed, but I'm not getting married todaaayyyyy🎶
ART
two months later and i’m still reeling over “i talked to oluwande all about it” lol your *mind*

lmao loved that
also,,,,, you know when you're watching someone act, and it's like they exude pure joy, like they've never been more in their element, like particular role is literally what they were put on this earth to do? that's what I get from Rhys in these scenes
the role he was born to play :’)
"Dearest wife, by the time you read this letter-"
MMMMM WHATCHA SAYYYYYYYYY
The Company crossover. My god I could kiss you for that 😂. I'm such a Sondheim fanatic when he first said that line I thought that's what he meant!
