      I have this knife and I've got to say it's very good. Like you I've only needed to sharpen it once. It keeps the edge. I lost the firesteel though. What's not to like about Bear Grylls? He's awesome.

    Not a survivalist you say? This is some of what he’s accomplished. Yeah jealousy is the root of most of his detractors. He doesn’t ask anybody like him anyway, but he’s accomplished more as a survivalist/ adventurer than anybody mentioned in this thread.
    From 1994-1997, he served in the British Army with 21 SAS.[24]
    On 16 May 1998, Grylls climbed to the summit of Mount Everest in Nepal, 18 months after breaking three vertebrae in a parachuting accident
    1997, Grylls became the youngest Briton to climb Ama Dablam, a peak once described by Sir Edmund Hillary as "unclimbable".[30]
    unassisted crossing of the north Atlantic Ocean, in an open rigid inflatable boat. Grylls and his team traveled in an eleven-metre-long boat and encountered force 8 gale winds with waves breaking over the boat while passing through icebergs in their journey from Halifax, Nova Scotia to John o' Groats, Scotland.[31]
    Grylls created a world record for the highest open-air formal dinner party, which they did under a hot-air balloon at 7,600 metres (25,000 ft), dressed in full mess dress and oxygen masks.[32] To train for the event, he made over 200 parachute jumps.
    In August 2010, Grylls led a team of five to take an ice-breaking rigid-inflatable boat (RIB) through 2,500 miles (4,000 km) of the ice-strewn Northwest Passage.

      Bear grylls tor apart a car to make a shelter (a car is a shelter ).he sucked elephant shit and piss from a snake skin for water got sick and puked 10x as much water as he got .
      Most if not all if the TV phony survival shows and youtube fail to teach about survival poaching ( hunting) .hunting deer at night is the best way to get one an option that shouldn't be over looked !
      But if you want some real survival info .find a book called how to stay alive in the woods by bradford angeirs ( not sure of the spelling ) . All the stuff in the sas and most other so called survival books and shows are taken from his book . It should have been called living in the woods . There's is 10x more stuff in that book than any of the book the youtubers and TV jokes put out .real world stuff .not commie show approved crap .
      Bear grylls showed mostly that you can't survive not how to ! (Politically correct bull shit )

    • @tcl379
      @tcl379 6 років тому +9

      Dale Carpenter : if it makes you feel better to bash BG go ahead. My first post listed a few stone cold accomplishments of his that very few people can put on a resume. His TV shows are entertainment and that’s all they are, I applaud him for making a good living and taking care of his family. So if you appreciate the way someone else approaches survival skills and generally living their life-- great!

    • @dalecarpenter8359
      @dalecarpenter8359 6 років тому +3

      TCL
      If your talking about he sucks elephant shit comment ? I wasn't knocking him ( then ) he did suck elephant shit on his show ( and got puking sick).but his show blows any.but all the stupid survival shows suck not just his .
      Those shows are commieized ( palitically correct bull shit )to the point of being useless stupid entertainment ( but there not entertaining)
      But one of bg shows he take a car apart to make a shelter ( a car already is a shelter !). Now they may have told him to do that ? But he's always telling people to drink piss ( if you drank piss before your dehydrated maybe it would help ) if you drink piss when your really dehydrated its moztly salt .if you want to throw up anytime drink really salty water .but if throw up when you are dehydrated it it could be the end !but then again maybe the producer told him to do it .
      Most of the shows show doing risky things that you wouldn't do because of the risk ( even a minor injury could be fatal when you can't go to a doctor ) so you don't take risks risks and i havent seen any of the shows show anyone deciding not to do a risky thing because you are in that situation .
      Non of the sgows even on youtube show the best survival tactic .which is night survival poaching deer .if youre not going to show that even like the first thing to do after shelter and fire then is shit .youtube shows individual skills but not night survival poaching ( because hunting at all is not pc i guess?).

    One of the reasons there was so much hate online for this knife was because the original one had many flaws. They fixed it later but the steel was still subpar and that reputation followed it to this knife since many people are incapable of understanding that this is a different knife. The Ultimate Pro is actually quite good and would be better if they stopped with all that orange. Coodos to you, Lilly, for giving this knife a shot!

    • @rasmusbaltser7761
      @rasmusbaltser7761 4 роки тому +2

      Agreed - except for the colour thing. Why would you need a knife to be black or camo unless you’re trying to hide it? Which means you see it as a weapon instead of a tool.
      The orange colour makes it easier to find in the wilderness if lost and it shows that you’re not trying to hide it for whatever reason

I watch you because you are not a braggart, do not preach, and project the approach of the common person.. not some expert demanding that they know best. Lilly, can you do a comprehensive comparison video of all of the knives you've used and rank them? Please compare them in a complete way. This knife comes with the integrated sharpener, survival manual, and fire steel in a nice compact design(IMO from looking at it online). All of that right on my belt is appealing to me. I'd like to see how they all line up including price in terms of value, and how they compare against one another from your perspective.

    I must say I was pretty impressed with your torture test.. it was pretty fair and reflective of the changes they've made since the earlier version I bought years ago (with the half-serrated blade) and I'm not sure would've survived the test.
    Why do you think they replaced the stone on the sheath with the sharpener? My guess is that this system is being marketed to beginning survivalist and many people can't get the stone sharpening right without much practice.

    Alot of people love to hate on this knife cause of its designer and older brother (first version), and so I dont think it gets a fair shake. I'm happy to see someone be honest about it and talk about it fairly. I bought one a couple years ago now, and it has performed just fine. No fails. No breakage. Edge and steel held up fine. Plus, it has so really useful features on the sheath and knife itself, the hammer pommel comes to mind which I really like. I wont replace my ESEE's or other knives, but I wont be getting rid of it either. Gave it to my wife as a beginner knife for her and she really likes it and uses it well. Good size for her, comfortable handle and weight. Steel is great for a beginner as well since its not a super steel it wont be too hard to sharpen for them or someone who just has a hard time sharpening knives in general, but is also a decent toughness and holds a decent edge. I really dont have anything bad to say about it. Good review Lilly.

    I bought one when they first released. It appears the knife you have has a full tang that runs the entire length of the blade to include the pommel, and also the width of the grip. However, the one I purchased had a tang that tapered down below the guard to something thin, and less substantial. I had thrown it into a fire to melt the grips off in hopes to put my own grips on or paracord...i was not thrilled to see the thin tang, and pommel fall out as the plastic around it melted off... not recommend, but it seems you have a improved version of the original.

    Hi Lilly, looks like you got a nice useable blade. Was it really a beech log you were batoning at the beginning or was it a piece of an ash tree?

    I just bought this knife this morning based on this video. If my experience lives up to my expectations because of this video, I am keeping this knife & planning on taking it on my next long hiking trip. I am also going to Alaska this summer & if possible I will be taking it to Alaska. I don't feel comfortable this knife is made in China, but after watching this video & other videos about this knife, I had to put my reservations aside & I wanted to try this knife for myself, I also know I can return it with a full money-back guarantee, if I am not satisfied, so I'm comfortable about that. Thank you for this video.

    my blades edge was uneven. and still is since the dinky sharpening arrangement on the back did absolutely nothing good for it, ( i did however manage to cut some of the plastic mounting for the sharpener trying to run it thu the gap.

    Hey Lily, I have the same knife and it also had a tight sheath and fire steel. I use my thumb to put pressure down on the sheath as I'm pulling up, it seems to work well. As for the fire steel I slide the knife between the sheath and the head of the steel, then I grip the rubber with the opposite hand and use my thumb to slide it up and out. Kind of ridiculous to have to do that but I guess it's better than being too loose and loosing it. Overall I have been fairly happy with the knife.

    It would be interesting to see a comparison of a few knives in this price point. I don't like how flashy that particular knife is but it preforms quite well - what else is there?

    I have the same opinion about the ultimate Pro.
    Its a pretty good performing knife and i love the grip on the handle.
    (Truly), just comparing with Mora or the Esee 4, but still the most comfortable handle of the 3.

    Good video. I've only had one Bear Grylls sponsored product and it was the survival fire starter which I really don't like. I have owned other Gerber made products, 2 multi tools which I love (I bought the first one back in 05' and still use it on the farm toady), a spring assist folding knife, and their E-Tool which is rather nice. As far as the knife styling, I'm not a fan, I prefer my Buffalo Skinner bushcraft knife from PKS. Thanks for another informative video Lilly and thank you for your time and effort. Stay safe.
