- Kiptopeke State Park, USS Wisconsin, VA Beach & More - Full Time RV Living: We have returned after nine years to a place we once called home. While we lived in the Norfolk & Virginia Beach area we never took the time to explore the area and see all it has to offer. Today we take you to a few spots that we should have taken the time to visit years ago. Along the way we manage to have a 'Farley Fail' moment.

This is beautiful. Thanks for sharing.☺
Thanks
Very cool video thanks
Thanks for popping over.
fantastic job...come on back for the kayaking !!!
I am in awe of the ship! Thank you so much for your service.
Thank You
What a great Video, thx 🙏🏻💐
THanks!
Thanks for bringing back so many old memories. :)
:)
Great content!
Thanks!
You two are awesome!
Aww Thanks!
Awesome to view the ship thru the eyes of people who have lived it. Another GREAT video!
Thanks
Great video !!! From one military guy to another..."Thank you for your service"!
oops...thanks to the both of you !!!
:) Thanks so much
Great Video!! Just gave us a bunch of ideas to explore in and around the Norfolk area!
Awesome!! We had a great day
It's so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day and forget to explore the local area. So many people think they have to quit their jobs and leave home to see cool sights, but they are often in your own back yard. Glad you saw them this visit!
I agree completely!!
Great show hope the meet up turns out well
It was a great turnout! We had so much fun.
I want to thank both or you for your service. Our oldest son is Navy and a 24 year lifer. My older brother died in WW II.
Thanks so much! Love to you and your military family. The sacrifices are real.
Awesome vlog! I really wish I could've served. What a way to build character experience and memories.
It really is all of those things.
Wow this brought back a ton of memories for me (Cheri)!! I lived in the area for 15 years, from Chesapeake to the Oceanfront off of 9th St. on Lake Holly! Love that area and I can't wait to go back to visit:) Great vid!😍
Thanks for popping over to join us! I am glad it helped you to walk down memory lane! Safe travels to you guys.
Thank you for your service 🇺🇸Watching this video from a Perkins restaurant while eating wildberry pie with ice cream. Thanks for video, found out about this area by looking at a state travel guide.
you two are so cute together. love watching you. great information
Thank you and thanks for hanging out with us
Lol freakin love you guys
Awww Thanks so much!! We are having the best time
My husband is currently stationed in Norfolk! You gave me ideas to see!
Sweet!! Have fun
Love your channel, my son is retired Navy, proud of all of you that have served our great country. When he was in Naval Sea Cadets, he got to go on the USS Wisconsin when they decommisioned it. Shared your video with him, I'm sure he will enjoy!!
That is awesome!! I bet he has a few memories.
Very cool! Hey Phil ... “The Same Trailer Different Park” T-Shirt picture looks like our Teardrop Trailer.
We love that T! You can pick it up at our fav gas station. Bucc-ees
I lived in Hampton while my dad was stationed at Langley AFB. I was young, pre teen, so I would love to go back and see it through different eyes!
Nice video - brings back a lot of memories :-)
Thanks for joining us!
Such a good point - so many of us get so tangled up in our everyday lives when living in our S&B's that we really don't check out our own neighborhoods. You may get to go 'see' something when you chaperone a child's field trip, or take them off to soccer, ball games, etc. but as far as actually adventuring, well...some day when we have the time.... Thanks for the highlights of great places to go in the VA Beach - Norfolk area and the trip down memory lane. "Farley Fail" - that's a good one. Hopefully you won't have too many of those!
It is true! Stuck in the rut of everyday life.
Lots of memories. Lived in Norfolk for six years while my dad was stationed there. Had to explain to my bride what a shellback was. When we get home this fall from our camp host duties I'll show her the Super 8 movie of my dad going through the garbage chute and kissing Neptune's greasy belly. Love your channel.
That is funny! I didnt know anyone had footage of that craziness! So glad there is none of me floating around.
@@todayissomeday it was taken on my dad's first WesPac tour in 1962. It's even funnier to watch it in reverse with the head shaving "adding" hair to the head and folks crawling backwards through the chute. Safe travels.
@@greggjarvies8938 Hahaha
Great clip. Though not Navy it reminded me our the hours we spent touring and exploring the USS Alabama in Mobile last year. Amazing. Keep safe and keep having fun. We fly back to the Dominican Republic for 6 weeks before on the road again.
Have a great time in the DR! Be safe
WOW....what a memory you brought back for me. I was stationed at the CINCLANTFLT compound back in 1984 and had to go aboard the IOWA to gather a few pieces of equipment for the MARS station I was operating. As I passed across the brow and stepped foot on her fantail the feeling of a ghostly presence passed through me....it only took about 5 seconds. I'd NEVER felt anything like before, or since for that matter....but it did cause the hair on the back of my neck to stand up....just as it did as I was watching you set foot on the Wisconsin. As Bob Hope always said....."Thanks for the memory". v/r, TS
Wow! That is something that would be hard to forget! Thanks for joining us!
OMG.....we were stationed there for 12 years and never heard of or saw the concrete ships either, LOL!!! LOVED this video guys, so many memories!!! We are currently staying on Ford Island before we head out and I'm soaking up all the last bits of Hawaii and Navy life I can before we head out. It's been a fun 27 years...I think I'll miss it more than my Sailor.
That is smart! See it all before you leave!
Great vid guys. I'm from the Norfolk-Va Beach-Williamsburg area. Let's not forget historic Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown for the viewers, which are all close by and definitely worth a visit !
That came next!
I had a serious case of claustrophobia watching you guys walk through that bunk area. Super close quarters!! Great video.
It was tiny right!!
gosh had forgotten all about wake up call..."sweepers! sweepers...man your brooms....lol
Shellback July 1971 aboard USS Juneau on the way to Auckland. I took my Dad to Pearl several years ago, and we toured Missouri. Though my Dad had been an aviator like me, he told me that during his 30 years in the Navy, he never saw any sailors more fiercely proud of their ship than battleship sailors. Incidentally, my father-in-law's ship, USS Taylor, was anchored right next to Missouri in Tokyo Bay when the surrender was signed. My father-in-law was invited to attend the ceremony, but he sent several of his sailors over instead, saying they'd done all the hard work and deserved to be there.
That is a great story! Thanks for sharing it with us! Sounds like you have some great men in your life!
@@todayissomeday Tru dat. I met my future wife when I was 11 and she was 9. It was her father who convinced me to go to the Naval Academy. "Yeah, they'll yell at you for a couple of weeks, but then it's fun." That whole first year I kept asking myself, "when does the fun begin?"
Equator and Artic Circle by ship!
It was great going down memory lane with you as you walked around the USS Wisconsin. It is obvious that you loved your time in the Navy. Thank you both very much for your service. You remind me that I live very near the Smoky Mountains but don't explore enough.
We cant wait to get back to the Smokies!!
Y'all have great channel I love what you are doing. I will continue to watch. Again if you ever come back to Texas let me Know. Both of you. Thank you For your service to our country. God bless your travels on the road
Thanks so much!
Love it.. Almost got emotional servaying that ship with you knowing all its been through and the people that fought for this country 🇺🇸🇺🇸 Our ships touch me deeply as do the people that serve. Thank you both for your service love you videos . 🍻 Cheers my friends
Thanks so much
Great video, Phil and Stacy. Next time you venture to the Eastern shore be sure to stop at Cape Charles. It is a cute little town and the Shanty Restaurant is one of our all-time favorites. If you go a little bit further and find Chatham vineyards, you can kayak to a tiny island and enjoy your wine there. We love visiting the Eastern shore because it’s like time travel back to the 1950s. If you decide to go out on the water, you must contact Captain Buddy.
Thanks for the suggestions! I put them on my map
Thank you both for your service.
Love your videos. We are split about being full time. I want to go full time my wife says no way. However she does like to watch your videos.
We will put Virginia Beach on our travel list since we will celebrate our 50th wedding with anniversary this year.
You dont have to sell the house to have a great time and explore the country. You can sometime or anytime and have fun as well!
Stacy, nice new hair do in the lighthouse
Thanks
Nice video Shipmates!
Thanks Tim! I hope your hosting duties are going well.
@@todayissomeday unfortunately not everything is as advertised. Pushing thru.👍
That sucks! When are you guys out of there?
@@todayissomeday will be sooner than later. No specific date yet. Live and learn.
@@timmaddock4199 Yikes! No end date!
Thank you both for your service...This video came at the right time, It made me pause (again)...We just returned from a Band of Brothers Shipmate reunion in Branson Mo. I haven't seen these guys in 50 years since we engaged the fires of war off Viet Nam on a destroyer called the USS Henry B Wilson DDG7, the Hammering Hank.
Wow! That is very cool. I hope you had a great time. Phil is dying to do the same thing with the USS Midway. Thanks for hanging out with us and most importantly thank you for your service!
By far my favorite video so far you 2. Brought back lots of memories of growing up in Norfolk/Va Beach area....and remembering my dad out to sea...mom going Ft. Story when we were kids. Including, all the way up until he was a CMDMC and the memories and myself being stationed there. Thank you for the trip down memory lane. Keep up the good work...and "stellar devotion" to you and your audience...and keeping with the highest standards of the United States. GO NAVY!!!
Aww! Thanks so much. This is my favorite video to date too!
We were at Fort Monroe for years. Love the Hampton Roads/Norfolk area.
Very cool! I worked in NN for years
Good flounder fishing there. Been fishing there when I was a kid. Be the way in 55.
Sweet!
I did not know about this lighthouse when I was stationed at NAS Oceana in 89-93. I will return to Va. Beach in September 2020 and I should check out this place.
Great video guys. One of the most awesome sites I have ever seen was at Hampton Roads (I think). A Trident Sub heading out to sea. It was an amazing site.
That is cool
My civil engineering class made and raced concrete canoes as seniors. Concrete toboggans to race the Canadian students in the winter too!
That is very cool! So much fun
Nice tripdown memory lane ! We have the uss Massachusetts and uss salem in mass to visit and alot more cant wait to seeyou guys !
It was a lot of fun! We need to find a spot to hang out and have a few beers!
@@todayissomeday there is alot to do in new england in the summer
NIce it has been a long time it going to be teal cool to meet up.and have gpod times
Kiptopeke Park! Too much, too funny! Too many coincidences! Cape Charles! My mother was Miss Cape Charles in the late 40's! Ya'll are just all around my peeps!
Miss Cape Charles! That is very cool! I bet her pics are the coolest!
Our first RV trip in our new RV is at thousand trails Chesapeake bay Virginia. It’s really beautiful here
Nice! It really is!
Great video! Don’t beat yourselves up to bad. I was born and raised there and never did most of that. But, I do have a recommendation for a future visit. The Norfolk Naval Shipyard Museum in Portsmouth, Virginia. It’s a tiny place but it’s packed with incredible displays about the history of the shipyard. Thanks for a glimpse of my home.
That is cool. I didnt think of that place.
You, Me & the RV Most people don’t know it’s there. But, if you take the ferry from downtown Norfolk, it’s right next to the ferry dock in Portsmouth.
There’s a sunken concrete ship off the coast of Bimini. I’ve scuba dived it many times. They are pretty cool.
That is cool. I am hoping to get certified.
The next time I go to visit my daughter we’ll have to check these out! She is up there on The Eisenhower CVN 69.
Very cool! Please thank her for her service when you see her!
There is a concrete ship that sunk off the tip of Cape May Point NJ. When I was a kid the bay would freeze solid enough you could walk out to it.
Wow! That is cool
We’ve been to Virginia many times, but we spent our time in Hampton/Newport News. I love spending time at Fort Monroe, and the Mariners Museum is great.
I worked in NN for many years!
Big mo!!!!!!!!!!
:)
One of my reenlistments was there at the base of the lighthouse
That is so cool!
We were there last year. I climbed the Cape Henry Lighthouse and hurt my knee. I was hobbling all over Yorktown, Jamestown and Williamsburg. When we got back i went to the doctor and i tore my meniscus and had to have knee surgery. So now i don't go up in lighthouses, though i like to visit them. We saw many from Boston to Bar Harbor, ME.
Oh NO! I hope you are all back to normal!
@@todayissomeday yep, back to normal just dont do a lot of stairs nowadays, LOL
Guess what?! We are going to the COE campground near Kennesaw GEORGIA! It looks beautiful! We are also going to FREDERICKSBURG,Va to visit Family. Staying at the Wilderness Presidential Resort
Awesome! Kennesaw is a great place to visit! Have fun
If you like to open water swim Kiptopeake water stays warm till Nov 1st. Sept & Oct , best months there... Super warm showers
Man I wish I had known you were in town, you could have used my kayaks!!
Oh man!!
Having been born and raised on the Pacific coast I can only hope to visit the Atlantic coast as part of my bucket list. We had a cement ship in Aptos, California but it has succumbed to the storms and no longer shows much above the water. I remember being able to walk out to an area close to the end as a kid. Now it’s gone but I remember it very well. If you get out west, let us know. We’d love to hike Yosemite with you. Blessings
We will be out there eventually. Hopefully, next summer!
Love Your videos, especially the tips. If you haven’t already, you need to visit Montana (Big Sky Country) and Idaho! And Canada (bring your passport). Beautiful and RV friendly!!!
They are on the list for sure!
WOW! One of the best you've done! Great intro, drone shots and the music for those. Navy people that never heard of concrete ships, shame on you (hee hee). I know what you mean about seeing local stuff. I live 45 minutes from the statue of liberty, almost got there once. Got to the Jersey City part, never went further. I have been to the Empire state building and the original World trade center in the '80s though. Jayman...
It seems like the more touristy things around us the more we stay away from the crowds because they are always there!
@@todayissomeday Crowds totally stink, I agree. Looks like you got Lucky on the ship, seems like you were the only two there. Jayman...
@@wantsomething3319 There were a few others but not very many! We pretty much had the place to ourselves!
Nice!!! I would Love going with you guys out here to tour the USS Missouri !! It would be fun to hear the comments. I’m glad I was an IT Jarhead.. I was “Too Valuable’ to be on ship for long periods
LOL
Wow, I live here in Va and have never been there before.
Go check it out!
One minor point, Phil - I think you might have meant about 58,000 tons instead of 58 tons. I think one of those 16 inchers weighs about 100 tons all by itself. I’m an old army guy so I’m not too familiar with all that floating armament! Anyway, thanks for your service. I appreciate the military content and I enjoy your channel. My wife and I are new to RVing and love to learn from your experience - even if you are Navy! :)
Just a couple of extra zeros! lol
If you come to New England you can visit Battleship Cove in Fall River MA
Thanks for the suggestion.
I have been stationed there in the Navy more than a few times myself. Also married a Navy lady while I was there and it lasted 20 years. I was already planning to take my new wife to Williamsburg, but now am thinking about staying a bit longer and showing her some of my old haunts. I do understand West Oceanview is not what it used to be though. Like you guys, I never visited any of those spots the whole time I was there. Though i did enjoy SeaShore State Park.
Have fun on your visit. It was a lot of fun for us to go back.
8 Years USN Subron 16 E-6 Underwater Fire Control. Thanks guys!
Thanks for joining us and more importantly thank you for your service! Blessings
Great video guys! We really enjoyed watching from your perspective. Thanks
Thanks guys! Hope you are doing well
We were stationed in Norfolk/VA Beach twice and never did any of that stuff either!! You all have inspired my wife and boys and I to do a UA-cam channel about our travels. “Roaming with the Roses”. Hope we cross paths sometime.
That is fantastic!!! I hope you love it as much as we do. Good luck with the channel!
I don’t mind the Navy using concrete ships... just don’t use them to give us Jarheads rides.. we need and deserve quality in our taxis !! Yes!! Explore your backyard!! Good advice
What an Amazing find in your past backyard! Guys get kayaks! We have inflatable Coleman that turn into backpacks. Take a look at our video review of the kayaks before you purchase one.
Lou💚
We really would love to have our own and we want inflatable due to lack of storage! We will check them out for sure. Budget is our problem at the moment!!
@@todayissomedayGuys they are about $100 a piece. They include the pump, the oars & seat. They have a max 300lbs. We have had about 3 kayaks, hard tandem, inflatable tandem and these. They are the best! Check them out...Sevylor Quickpak K1 by Coleman.
No kick-back for us just trying to help.
Lou💚
You guys crack me up. Thank you for your real life videos.
Thanks for popping over to hang out with us!
Guilty as well. We lived there 3 1/2 years and we never went across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. We did go to Fort Story once but only to the beach. Maybe one day like yourself we'll return to that area and get to explore what we missed.
But the beauty is we are exploring now! Hopefully you will also be able to check it out.
I don't thank I have said this since watching your channel. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE
Thank you so much
Any recommendations that you guys have for RV’ing in Florida in July. Places to stay, and see. Beaches, museums, tours, etc...Anything exciting!! No kids are going, adults only. Around the Delray, Fort Lauderdale, Miami areas. We can venture out too.
We are asking the same questions! lol We will be headed to FL this winter for the first time in the RV. We are open to suggestions!
We toured the Wisconsin a couple of years ago. What a great ship!
It really is!
Great video, we found this very informative. We are in the process of downsizing and acquiring our Rig for full time. We are so excited to get our there. Thank you, you inspire us : ).
Awesome! I will see ya out there!
Great footage and very informative. Keep up the good work!
Thanks
Bruce Pixley great chief mess at fort storyp
We camp locally and staycation.
Sweet!
Interesting I've heard of the Mothball Fleet of Navy Ships . My family & I use to pass by them in the Hudson River by the Annsville Circle in Peekskill , New York by Camp Smith @ the foot of The Bear Mountain Road aka the goat trail that went up to the Bear Mountain Bridge . I've never heard of concrete ships before . I have a classmate from school who lives in Virginia Beach . Do the yurts & cabins have a/c ? Ever thought of buying your own kyaks or inflatable ones ? My dad was a WWII Navy Veteran & went thru I think it was called King Neptunes Court on the USS Cogswell . Dad was an Electricians Mate & also manned a gun on the deck . I've crossed the Equator on a cruise ship during a transatlantic cruise . I have a certificate signed by the Captain of the ship . Phil what ship(s) were you on ? Stacy what ship(s) were you on ? My dad slept in a hammock on his ship . When I was a Boy Scout I toured the USS Massachusetts docked in Fall River , Massachusetts . Thanks for taking me along vicariously through your camera lense . .
I did not notice if either had a/c but I am sure you could call to check. Inflatable kayaks are on the list but not in the budget at the moment. I was on the USS Acadia and Phil was on 7 ships but I cant remember them all.
@@todayissomeday Stacy Thank You for your reply . Were you a Nurse in the name or a Corpsman like your son ? What does your son-in-law do in the Navy ? Was the USS Acadia a destroyer ?
Great information! Awesome video! Thanks for sharing guys 😊
THanks
I’m moving back to Norfolk Virginia in late August I’m from there
Make sure you check out those kayaks!
I remember learning about the concrete ships in high school.
Great video, history is amazing.
Keep the rubber on the road.
I do love history!!
I have stayed in Virginia beach and did not know about the Lighthouse or BB Wisconsin. I have toured the BB Alabama in Mobile Bay, AL. Thanks for great video.
Thank goodness we arent the only ones! lol
Great video this time. I am so glad I decided to skip the Navy and join a real branch... Just Kidding, but god I hate those Navy Uniforms. Might I suggest that during your travels you hit up the Military Academies. The Air Force Academy is beautiful, West Point is great, and Annapolis is okay I guess (It's gorgeous). Plus if you go at the beginning of the school year you can have a good laugh at the expense of the Plebes.
They are on the list for sure! We have been to the Air Force Academy (we actually stayed on that famcamp) and the Naval Academy. West Point is very high on the list!!
You, Me & the RV maybe when you come to nyc I’ll talk your husband into some skydiving. Tell him I’ll start him low to the ground, about 12k feet should do.
@@mysterymayhem7020 That is never gonna happen!! hahahaha

Thank you for your service. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thank you!
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing! oh those military memories!!
Right!
We have the USS New Jersey ( battle ship) permanently docked in Camden NJ. Yes awesome the history we have in our own back yards. We dont appreciate the history.
