The first thing we do before we even start unpacking and unhitching, getting ready to set up... is we pull out the cord, plug it into the pedestal, and check the power. We’ve been down this road before, and it’s no fun having to move the RV. Worst of all you can get in a hurry and fail to look at your checklist. Which inevitably leads to more problems.
We had a great time back in June in Gettysburg with our kids. You could spend a whole day JUST in the visitor center museum! My family doesn't love history like I do, so I only got an hour. The park ranger programs are another great way to learn about the park and they are FREE. We squeezed in 3 programs on the day we visited the Park.
Mishaps happen no matter where or how you live, staying calm while dealing with them is our choice...you two are a great example !!! And not only that, how you two work together and compromise is heartwarming. For instance, Stacy isn’t a sports fan but will go to ball fields and sports museums, Phil isn’t a history fan but will go on history tours and those museums.....well done, I wish you both all the best !!!
I think the Georgia monument sums it up best for all soldiers who fought there: "We sleep here in obedience to law. When duty called, we came. When country called, we died."
Gettysburg is huge - a segway tour is a great way to see the highlights. Glad the park got the pedestal fixed as quickly as they could and loved that they said they would 'refund' your first night there. Now that is good customer service!
Useless information for everyone - I was stationed abroad the USS Gettysburg (CG-64) out of Mayport, FL. As a matter of fact I am a "plank owner" of the Gettysburg and my "Plank Owner" plaque is made from an oak tree that was struck by lightening that used to stand on the battlefield. Our pre-commission crew spent a number of weekends helping clean up the park as a show of respect to the Gettysburg community for allowing us the namesake for our ship. Thank you for taking me there again!
I was born in PA and spent 25 years in central PA. You make me miss it. I’m in metro Denver, Colorado now. Not a bad place to live either. There is a great Segway tour in Colorado Springs at the Garden of the Gods. I used to do bicycle tours of Gettysburg every year. Love your videos.
I'm with Phil on this one (not really the history buff myself) BUT.....our Full Time journey started this summer with a week in Gettysburg over the Fourth of July. We have an 11yo that is a total Civil War history buff and were so fortunate to have one of the hubby's retired Navy buddy, who is also one of the licensed tour guides there gave us our very own tour over multiple days. Needless to say it has been the high-light of our trip for our son still 3 months later. It is definitely an incredible place.
We also enjoyed Gettysburg just before we headed to Hershey for the RV show. It was our first time and we also would go back. We chose the bus tour, which we thought was awesome. We love how positive you both are. Thanks for taking us on your journey. Take care and be safe!
I did the individual tour where the guide came with us and drove our vehicle around. It was well worth the cost, as he was extremely well versed in the local history and presented it very well. Loved it and will do it again.
Aren't Segways FUN?!? We did our first Segway tour on Prince Edward Island in Nova Scotia. So much fun! And, as you experienced at the park, having an audio guide is so educational.
So true that we have to roll with the punches. And I’ve figured out that there is no use worrying about what challenges we might find at a new campsite. We make our plans as wisely as we can and then work out the challenges in real time.
We have been to Gettsburg twice and both times we hired an historian to drive us through. They are extremely knowledgeable and the one man we had acted while he told the stories. Marching, etc. Very animated and fun. Would definitely love the segway tour! We are extreme history fans. Even drove 3 hours out of the way to see The Guernsey Ruts. Not exactly worth it but we saw them. Check! lol
We feel your pain on the surge protector issue. We were in Shediac New Brunswick Canada. For 8 years we had RV'ed without a power protector, and got zapped. It blew up our power transfer switch, and there was not one to be had in that area. We had to make it all the way from Canada to home in North Alabama to get the repair done. The meant I had to re-wire the RV every time we stopped for the night to use shore power, and re-wire again in the mornings so we could run our generator for power while driving. STRONGLY AGREE ON RECOMMENDING everyone have a power tester/protector/surge detection or something. I did the repair myself and it was still a $250
We had the same issue with a breaker in Texas. In our case, we called them and they came out right away and fixed the box for us. Good catch! It doesn’t happen often, but it is important to watch for these types of errors to protect your RV.
As a retired electrician, here's my two cents worth. Handle those cords and load centers with a pair of dry leather gloves. There's a lot of energy that can come out of there. Operate circuit breakers with your off hand. Use your left if your right handed. In the absence of safety glasses, half close the door over your hand when operating a circuit breaker. Finally, as you did, keep your distance and your face out of the way. Catastrophic failure of circuit breakers isn't common but it happens. An RVer who uses hookups will operate more breakers in a few months than most people do in a lifetime. Thanks for the segue tour.
Good morning, Adapt and overcome, we have been down this winding road before. Also setting an example that a cool head truly prevails! Have a great stay and welcome to Pennsylvania.
You, Me & the RV Wholeheartedly agree, and having good tools , knowledge and skill to use them is nothing short of a ballistics vest and great investment.
We ridden segways in Paris and New Orleans. We picked the seaways up at the The Louvre and road all over Paris including The Champs Élysées. No training involved! A little scary with the crowds but we had a blast! . Love them!
We were at Gettysburg over this past weekend. We did a 3 hour private guide tour and it was fabulous. Even with that there is so much more to see. We plan to go back again.
Great video. We are home from our 77 day trip. Good to have full services. I really like the Segway Tour of Gettysburg. I added that to my list of things to do.
This will sound silly, but what I say is, “Great problem to have”. If you have pedestal problems AND NOTHING HAS BLOWN UP, you’re good. You’re camping!
Went to Gettysburg on Leadership trip where we had historians with us for two days, it was great! Bought the dvd tour and have watched it, plus listened while drove it with younger daughter later on. Segway sounds like a fun way to see it too.
We did the driving audible tour earlier this month. Fantastic! I loved Gettysburg! Everyone should experience it! History buff or not. Love of country and all who have served!
You try and visit Valley Forge National Park while you are in the area. There are no RV Parking sites there, but you can stay at French Creek State park which is about 30 minutes From VF. You are also about 45 minutes from the Amish areas in Lancaster. Lots more to see and explore.
You guys were in my stomping grounds. Pinchot is only 15 minutes from me. My son's scout pack does trail maintenance there. Glad they got you fixed up quickly.
I stayed at Blue Heron this past July for two nights. Parked my class A right next to the double decker bus. My dog, Gypsy, loved the goats🐶. Make it a point to check out the tillamook cheese factory! I had the tomato soup with cheese curds and grilled cheese sandwich. It was delicious 💗. They have a very interesting self guided tour of their manufacturing process.

I will give you guys a boat tour of the Harris Chain of Lakes and the Dora Canal which is an amazing experience in itself. All the best.
We love Gifford Pinchot State Park. Thanks for another great video. (FYI...Pinchot is pronounced with a long O and silent T. He was an American Forester and 1st head of the US Forest Service.).
OMG we've experienced sewer/electricity to far to connect. Nice to see you both stayed calm. Segway tours and rides looks fun. Nice hike. Massage each other's feet next time. Thank you for sharing. See you guys next video.
yeah ive learned. before i do anything else, i check my electric number 1, then hoses reach for water and sewer. if that works, i go ahead and plug in and level it and pull out the slides.
Was just at Gettysburg myself a few weeks ago after the Hershey RV show. Found it to be a huge area and climbed the tower overlooking the battle field and Eisenhower's'farm. Personally found the experience to very sad when you reflect on all the American lives that were lost given the state of affairs in 2019.
So my takeaway from this is to plug in your power management thingie and see if the power is good before you get all set up. Live and learn, but this time it's a your expense. Ain't modern technology wonderful! Keep up the good videos guys.
You might want to look at the Hughes Autoformer - not only does it protect against surges, but it boost low power. Low power can be just as bad as a surge on your AC unit.
Guys, we spent this past weekend at Gifford Pinchot, Site 257. It was 30 amp, but they installed a new receptacle upside-down. I didn't call. I fixed it hot. Sometimes it pays to be an electrician. I can't tell you how many campground electrcial problems I have fixed in the last 25 years! Safe travels.
Wow. Glad it all worked out. We wonder if all the folks that just plug in and unplug without ensuring the breakers is off is the cause of so many issues??
Hey, we have Gifford Pinchot national forest here in western WA. It's our favorite forest for camping. Actually going this weekend. Keep up the good work. Maybe someday the wife and I will be able to fulltime...
Sometimes if the breaker trips, people just re set it and they think that its good to go. You actually should turn the breaker on then off then back on to set both legs. The breaker was prob. fine.
Not all campground power systems are perfect i.e.: you will run into power issues again. I strongly recommend you purchase an Autoformer e.g.: Hughes Autoformer. We recently picked one up on sale. Mrs. Squid and I also spent time at Gifford pinchot state park. It is a beautiful place. I'm so glad you had a great time . Wishing you fair winds and following seas.
Thank you for a great video on both Gifford Pinchot State Park and things to do in and around the park. I have visited Gettysburg a number of times, including many trips when I was s youngster living in Pittsburg, and have enjoyed every moment. I retired from the USAF in Dec 2013 where I worked as an instructor at the Air National Guard Training and Education Center for about 12 years. During that time I was able to acquire a masters degree in Civil War history. No doubt, much of the history you enjoyed at Gettysburg found its way into my classroom on a regular basis. I’m glad you enjoyed the Segway method of touring the battlefield. That’s definitely a unique way to do it. Your video inspired us to reserve a few days of camping in the park next September. Got a question...do the sites have individual water hookups? We’re going to be at site 137. We have a 20 foot travel trailer with 30 amp. The site description is a little vague on the water hookups. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks again for your awesome videos! We’ve learned so much from you guys. Also, thank you for your service. My wife is also a veteran of the Air Force, so we appreciate what you do for the vets so much. God Bless!
Some of the sites do not have water. The website was weird because for our site it had the water waves symbol but did not have hookups. I would double check your site online or do what we did and drive your tow car in to inspect the site before taking your rig past the water fill. Some sites do have full hookups with your own water.
Wow I think your sure protector just paid for itself. I don't know if your coach has a built in surge protector but if so it may not protect against low voltage. You could have damaged some expensive equipment if you hadn't checked first. I think we have the same model surge protector I just purchased the best one Progressive makes. 3 hours standing on a segway would really challenge my wife and I but it sure looks like fun
We're going to be in Gettysburg in a couple of weeks. Thanks for the great video. I'm not sure if the weather will let us picnic on round rock, but we hope it will. We're finally closing on the house Wednesday...only 10 days late lol, but we're finally full time nomads now! See you out there, eventually.
I got the one with the dog (wink wink). I am glad they took care of you. These things can save a coach. No joke. I got one of the two (fat) wheel thingies. They are FUN. Taking it to Georgia this next week.
We went to Gettysburg and it wasn't our favorite park. The drive around seemed boring. It didn't help of course that neither of us like the Civil War era. We went to Yorktown in VA. Same thing. So battle grounds just isn't our thang. Great video though!
Yup we have had lots of power issues at Pinchot we were told there were too many 50amp coaches on the 30 amp sites and to reserve a 50 amp site next time. At least we had power a nitetime for the ac.
We would have reserved a 50amp.....but they were full. We have no issue with 30amp. The park was quick to resolve the issue.....which is always good to see.
Interesting on the Segway. I really enjoy Gettysburg and the area. I am sure you have thought of becoming a Thousand Trails members, why have decided not up to this point.
Thousand Trails doesn't fit for us as we can stay on Military bases for way cheaper. We have friends that love it though. The prices can be really high.....make sure you shop around.
I do like history , the RV park was beautiful! I was disappointed that they did not come and fix the post that night. It seems like something that could happen a few times a week, just have someone on call
You, Me & the RV I would roll with the punches as well, just shoes me that it’s good to have extended cords.. just in case. And the piece of don’t setup until after you test power. So much fun dreaming and watching the videos
In Washington state, there is a Gifford Pinchot National Forrest, we pronounce it "Pinchoe", it maybe french, it maybe we're west coast hillbillies, who knows, LOL.
You guys are very positive . looks like a wonderful tour but Question , Is there a reason the start / finish is next to a Chiropractor ? lol sorry could not resist
I have the 30 amp version of what you have and has always just displayed E 0 (good) except the time I encountered a "no ground" condition. It is good to know this puppy will notify of a low voltage condition. I assume it prevents you from receiving any power whatsoever when the E 6 was displayed? Thanks for another great travel video!
We would love to know if you have explored a city by segway and what city you explored.
Did a Segway tour in Genoa, Italy. Saw where Christopher Columbus was born and raised. Great Tour!!
@@seabeevet9285 That sounds amazing!
Agreed!! We started doing that but after boondocking for weeks we obviously got out of order. That wont happen again though!! Lesson learned.
We had a great time back in June in Gettysburg with our kids. You could spend a whole day JUST in the visitor center museum! My family doesn't love history like I do, so I only got an hour. Thanks a ton! We have been together over 30 years and it takes give and take to make it work! We wouldn't have it any other way!!!
Very good service. The camp hosts there could take a page out of there handbook!! LOL

Heading to Gettysburg this month (7/2023) and will checkout the Segway Tour. Did it in Asheville NC and had a blast!
watching this I had a back to the future flashback. Boy you look a lot like the Doc trying to plug in the line at the Clock tower. 4:00
Now that is funny!

Spot on!!!
We can’t wait. Six more years until retirement, then we are going to be full time
Whoop Whoop!

Good call!!!
Good morning,
Adapt and overcome, we have been down this winding road before. Also setting an example that a cool head truly prevails! Have a great stay and welcome to Pennsylvania.
We know we may have dodged a bullet on this one.
You, Me & the RV Wholeheartedly agree, and having good tools , knowledge and skill to use them is nothing short of a ballistics vest and great investment.
We have been to Gettysburg twice. Favorite place. I love history and that place is incredible.

We were at Gettysburg over this past weekend. We did a 3 hour private guide tour and it was fabulous. Even with that there is so much more to see. We plan to go back again.
We agree.....we will be back.
We did the two hour horseback riding tour!! It was awesome.
Wow...20 years ago you drove or you walked...usually both. It seems to have changed quite a bit.

It is a great way of the kids to enjoy the outdoors and history at the same time.
Loved having you both with us at the Segway shop!! Thank you both for your service to our country.
Thanks for a great tour!!! We hope folks are coming in to try it out!!!
The site was very accommodating, that was nice.
I very much enjoy your videos, they have been very informative and helpful, thank you. I would like to thank the both of you for your Service. 🇺🇸
Thank you Joe!
Stayed there last spring. Very nice campground.
We had the same problems once, we were able to use 30amp for a day until they fixed it. Much easier than moving!
Worked for us....after moving closer.....lol
When I was growing up in Mahopac , New York I was a Boy Scout and the troop I belonged to we use to go hiking on the Appalachian Trail .
That is cool. It is so beautiful there.
We did the driving audible tour earlier this month. Fantastic! I loved Gettysburg! Everyone should experience it! History buff or not. Love of country and all who have served!
We agree....everyone should visit!
You try and visit Valley Forge National Park while you are in the area. There are no RV Parking sites there, but you can stay at French Creek State park which is about 30 minutes
From VF. You are also about 45 minutes from the Amish areas in Lancaster. Lots more to see and explore.
You guys were in my stomping grounds. Pinchot is only 15 minutes from me. My son's scout pack does trail maintenance there. Glad they got you fixed up quickly.
Yes, they were great!
Thanks Trish.....will add it to the list.
We are new to RVing and are planning to order a new Winnebago Navion shortly. The information you have provided on your You Tube channel was very helpful. Since we live in Mount. Dora FL, we already made reservations at the RVillage rally in February and hope to see you there. By the way, we moved from Illinois to a few years back since I am retired now from Baxter Healthcare. Mount Dora is a very special place hope that a visit here may be in your future.... I will give you guys a boat tour of the Harris Chain of Lakes and the Dora Canal which is an amazing experience in itself. All the best.
Thanks Ken. Congrats on RVing! We hope to run into you as well in Feb.
Definitely check breaker with that thing before you set up. Good lesson for everyone. Ty for info 👍🏻
For sure!
Checking the pedestal first was a great takeaway for me - thanks! And wow, what a great place to stop!
It really was a nice spot!
We love Gifford Pinchot State Park. Thanks for another great video. (FYI...Pinchot is pronounced with a long O and silent T. He was an American Forester and 1st head of the US Forest Service.).
Thanks for sharing!! We appreciate it!
OMG we've experienced sewer/electricity to far to connect. Nice to see you both stayed calm. Segway tours and rides looks fun. Nice hike. Massage each other's feet next time. Thank you for sharing. See you guys next video.
Thanks Teresa!
My routine is park, hit the level button and then connect electric, water and waste. With all that working, I then open the slides.
yeah ive learned. before i do anything else, i check my electric number 1, then hoses reach for water and sewer. if that works, i go ahead and plug in and level it and pull out the slides.
We do as well.......all the time now. Our check list is a huge help to keep us on track.
The numbers lost were staggering!
Live the audio tours in national parks! Never tried the Segway method...will check it out. Thanks for the info!
Nice video , thanks for sharing.
We have the exact same surge protector and we use it every time we plug in. It's cheap insurance.
Great peace of mind.
Thank you for a great video, Mr and Mrs sailor.
Thanks so much!
So my takeaway from this is to plug in your power management thingie and see if the power is good before you get all set up. Live and learn, but this time it's a your expense. Ain't modern technology wonderful! Keep up the good videos guys.
Yep! Stay true to the checklist!!
Definitely going to update the checklist! Check the pedestal before anything else!!! Hopefully you get to see the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania!
Great video!! Really enjoyed see a little bit of Gettysburg, my first!! Thank you guys for the great content & keep 'em rollin. .......:]
Thanks Steve!
I saw that you are speaking for that and it's half the reason I'm processing joining it!! It looks like a huge informational session!
We hope to see you there.
You might want to look at the Hughes Autoformer - not only does it protect against surges, but it boost low power. Low power can be just as bad as a surge on your AC unit.
Moochdocking!
The Battle of Little Round Top turned Union defeat into victory. Maybe a bottle of wine with the sammich?
Wine sounds like a great idea.
Guys, we spent this past weekend at Gifford Pinchot, Site 257. It was 30 amp, but they installed a new receptacle upside-down. I didn't call. I fixed it hot. Sometimes it pays to be an electrician. Wow. Glad it all worked out. We wonder if all the folks that just plug in and unplug without ensuring the breakers is off is the cause of so many issues??
I wish i new you all were in gettysburg, only 2 hours away from there. could have a done a meet up with you all. Glad you had fun.
I took my history buff hubby there and I even liked the museum but I’m like Phil, history isn’t my thing but I can appreciate it.
Hey, we have Gifford Pinchot national forest here in western WA. It's our favorite forest for camping. Actually going this weekend. Keep up the good work. Maybe someday the wife and I will be able to fulltime...
Enjoy Steve!
Sometimes if the breaker trips, people just re set it and they think that its good to go. You actually should turn the breaker on then off then back on to set both legs. The breaker was prob. fine.
Progressive is the best 👍
Saved our tail!!
I will look into the autoformer.....many have recommended it. Go Navy!
Very nice show! Good info and thank you so much for taking me places i maybe never can visit. ( but it is on my bucketlist)
Glad we could help!
We have been to Gettysburg many times and love it. Have fun :)
Love the Gettysburg tour... we love exploring Gettysburg battlefield, but we’ve never done it on a Segway... great video!
It was a great way to see and learn the history!
We had a honeymoon weekend at Gettysburg! ! We were there last weekend for a tour of the Shriver House.
And Four Score Brewing Company!!!
Awesome!!!
Thank you for a great video on both Gifford Pinchot State Park and things to do in and around the park. I think we have the same model surge protector I just purchased the best one Progressive makes. 3 hours standing on a segway would really challenge my wife and I but it sure looks like fun
Thanks Gene. I do love our surge protector. We may have dodged a bullet!!!
Congrats!!! You are gonna love fulltiming!!! Take pics if you do picnic on the rock!
@@todayissomeday thanks! We're so ready to go. I'll take pictures. If I'm not overly hungry at the moment and forget everything but food. 🤣🤣🤣
I got the one with the dog (wink wink). I am glad they took care of you. These things can save a coach. No joke. I got one of the two (fat) wheel thingies. They are FUN. Taking it to Georgia this next week.
LOL
We went to Gettysburg and it wasn't our favorite park. The drive around seemed boring. It didn't help of course that neither of us like the Civil War era. We went to Yorktown in VA. Same thing. So battle grounds just isn't our thang. Great video though!
Thanks for the tour! And tip on electric!!!
I live in Gettysburg, missed you all...😢
My great great grandfather with to last reunion in 1937 or 38. His grandson took him by train from OK.
That is awesome!!!!
Thank you really enjoyed your video!
That was a cool video. Really enjoyed it.
We already bought our tickets to the RVillage rally! See you there!
Whoop, whoop!! We can't wait!!
Love you guys...love your videos! The Best!
Thanks Karen. Wish I could give this 2 hearts!!!
I love going to Gettysburg. I try to go every year. hope you had a great trip.
Just missed you guys. Left PA a few days ago and are now in Georgia for the winter!! Darn it!!
I love Segways! This will definitely be on my bucket list!! Thank you
Awesome I live about 20 miles from Gettysburg. Never knew they had those tours. Gonna have to try it out. Hope you enjoyed our area in PA.
We did! Have fun!
Great video! I've always wanted to see the civil war battle fields. Segways look like a lot of fun too.
It was a blast......a must if you are visiting!
Love those bike scooters ♡
I do like history , the RV park was beautiful! I was disappointed that they did not come and fix the post that night. It seems like something that could happen a few times a week, just have someone on call
It is a state park. They cant afford to pay on call pay for non emergencies. The workaround was fine for us.
You, Me & the RV I would roll with the punches as well, just shoes me that it’s good to have extended cords.. just in case. And the piece of don’t setup until after you test power. So much fun dreaming and watching the videos
Nice Segway Phil... LOL !!
I can't wait to get on a Segway. It looks like you guys aced it.
Lou💚
Well.....Stacy did almost smash into the back of me.....LOL
@@todayissomeday I think I noticed that in vid. That would have been crazy & funny.
Lou💚
How convenient to have a chiropractor right next door to the Segway place. LOL!
Right! Hahahaha
LOL...we didn't even notice it.
👏👏👏😊Ah! Now you plug in your surge protector before pulling in to your site from now on? Keeps you from all that mess🧐
The joys of it!🚐🤸🏼♂️🤪
Yes....we should have stuck with our checklist as normal!
Loved Gettysburg!
I also believe that there is a horseback tour you can take , our friends are RV'ers an I think they did the tour on horseback!
Way cool.
Would be good to see your checklist sometime and see if im missing anything. Where do you all plan to be in the winter?
We did a video on our checklist......check out our video section for it. We hope to be in FL for the winter.
It really is a great peace of mind........it will hopefully save a ton of money down the road catching issues!!
Great suggestions!
Awesome park, try it on horseback ♥️
Great idea!!!
:-) Lesson learned... plug in tester before slides and leveling. Note to self!!! :-)
