I’ve had my PDL 106 for 3 years and absolutely LOVE it!!! It’s not that heavy to haul around n it fits perfectly in my truck bed!! Bigger is not always better!! 👍🤡👍
My first kayak was the OT Sportsman 106 PDL. Although I eventually sold it for a lighter fishing platform that I could more easily manage, I really enjoyed my Old Town. It was very comfortable, especially after I put your seat risers on it. The shorter length was often an advantage, especially maneuvering in tight spaces in the back creeks. I am tall so I had the seat positioned to the back and never felt that the bow of the boat was dragging in the water. The Old Town Pedal kayaks are all well made with rugged hulls that can take a beating and a smooth pedal drive that will last for many years with minimal maintenance. It will be interesting to see if you can turn it into a speedster.
I’ve had my 106PDL since March of 2021…. I’m 5’1” and this platform is perfect for me! I’m 100% happy with this Kayak! We fish in the bays of Aransas Pass, Texas ❤ this kayak can go anywhere. 😁👍
That is one draw back. I stand up in mine or need to get into the front hatch, water gets in but once I sit back down the water drains out. I do love my kayack though. The 106 is easier to load for me. I cartop mine for transport.
i hv a 120 sportsman pdl....its awesome and the stability is great....i only went with the 120 for the extra 50 lb..originally i was getting the 106..so i kno the 106 is an awesome kayak...you can stand in it too..anyone who wants a good pdl kayak...these are the way to go...thx
I've had mine for 8 months now and truly enjoy it. I'm not a tall guy and I don't notice more water in the floor or nose down plowing thru the water. But if I did, I would just add more cold snacks to my cooler in the back!
Chose the 106 over the 120 due to weight and the ability to easily put into my truck bed. I trailer it 90% of the time, but when camping I needed something I could load in the bed. I love it! I'm very anxious to see how the motor looks. I don't even care about the speed, but I can't stand homemade looking setups.
I had that exact kyak and color . Best investment I’ve made . With so many new overblown fancy kyaks coming to market I still think this one holds its own . Recent subscriber to your channel , awesome work and look forward to purchasing many products from your website .
You are 100 on point with the height and weight of the person that get this kayak. This should be considered before buying that pdl106, because you are gonna get water in that drive area all the time because of what you said about the center... I know 👀 lol. Good video Nick 🤝.
Yes. Just got one this past year and I love it for all the same reasons you pointed out. 6’4” 190 and it pedals fine. Pretty dry for me. Can you make a guard for the back part of the kayak as well? I’ll be ordering mine soon. Probably closer to summer. :)
Awesome video! I’ll get my PDL 106 in this week, I hope! Once you get a trolling motor install on the PDL 106, do the video ! I can’t wait to check out the video!! 🛶🔥🙌🏻
@@NavarreKayakFishing I also need to order some of your parts off your website, and it was a pleasure talking to you the other day on the phone about your parts you manufacturer for kayaks!!!!
Definitely interested in a mounting plate and setup for a Newport motor. I've had my 106PDL since April of 2020 and it has been the perfect set up for me. I run a 600' blue crab trotline in it with my dog up in the Chesapeake Bay, no problems. I got caught in a winter small craft advisory coming in late, heavy wind and rollers, didn't even get wet. Only issue I've had is the PDL powder coat is failing pretty badly starting near the prop and speading outward. Old town said that it wasn't covered under warranty unfortunately, so I guess I'll just keep going till it doesn't go anymore.
The Newport system works great. We’ve had a bunch of customers do it. Due to lack of room we are selling the 106PDL. Sweet kayak we just don’t have room to store them all and make parts for them.
4.2 to 4.3. Have not run it without the PDL installed so that might have contributed to a little drag. Propped the PDL up and had a bit to much water come up through the drive hole.
Luv my 106pdl... chose it over larger yaks cuz of my limited garage space, lighter weight as I car top, and cost... put a 40# transom motor and can get 4.3mph easily and still use the pdl and can easily cruz at 5mph
I got the 120 pdl not salty, and i stand up in it and take it out on salt in 10-18mph winds. (although I almost fell in last time, gotta pay attention to waves). Please continue to make parts for these Kayaks your stuff is quality. Only ? i have it WHAT SEAT CUSHION DO YOU RECOMMEND? that seat can get a little unsupportive after 4-5 hours straight
I'm coming up on my 3rd year freshwater fishing out the 106. It's great for ultralight spin fishing and since I raised the seat I can fly fish out of it. It's a fishing machine.
Thank you for all these great videos. My son and I are under 6' 150lbs. We primarily fish the gulf (tampa) in 12ft vibe kayaks and looking to upgrade to pdl. Do you think the 106 would be suitable for that type of saltwater fishing. We only bring a couple poles and a cooler with minimal tackle. Wondering if I can get away from buying the 120 . Thanks
I’m looking to get a pedal kayak for small to medium rivers and lakes. Little if any salt water fishing. Pickup bed and trailer hauling. Would you recommend the 106, 120 or something else? It seems the 106 would be easier to haul and maneuver in small rivers.
I found out that the bow dips and I get a lot of water in the kayak because I sit far forward due to my lack of height. It still doesn’t bother me tho because the yak performs well.
Nick have you seen the KAKU Zulu ? I’d like your opinion. It can be outfitted with a pedal drive or any trolling motor. One version comes with an Xi3. The seat is completely different and the kayak was designed around it . Looks like an awesome setup. The guy who designed them is from Tarpon Springs. My daughter just bought a house down there. Check them out when you get a chance. The model is called the KAKU Zulu. Thanks
I had a voodoo and it was spectacular. Stupid stable on big busy lake that has no motor limit etc. Could stand up on it all day. I'm sure the Zulu would be even better with the pedals, and the xi3
@@NavarreKayakFishing Would be awesome. I haven’t had to use my cart in over a year since I was able to replace the skid plates on the Outlaw. Will be getting the 106 PDL this month.

Debating on going with the Sportsman 106 or 120 PDL... I'm having a hard time making the decision. Going from a 1232 jon boat and in Colorado so pretty small waters. Any insight on the direction I should go, Nick?
Awesome thinking of buying one mainly for saltwater fishing and thought of buying the pins for propeller, the knob, and the bolt for the rudder. Hopefully the 5 yr warranty can cover if it ever goes bad for rusting.
@brianhernandez1777 if you take care of it you shouldn’t run into many issues. Spray the shear pin with corrosion inhibitor and watch the Old Town maintenance video we posted a few years ago.
@charlielong9667 bought 2 months ago, my only guess it was the 2023 model. The tag didn't say what kind of sale, it was the only kayak in the store discounted.
Without it fully loaded with fishing gear it goes through the water pretty good. Once you continue adding weight it gets a bit slower. The 120 does a better job.
Oh bro, This would've be my first ever yak though being a short bloke at 5"5 and a bit bulky i think ill go with hobie compass for fishing/rec its actually $1300au cheaper here in Australia! hi Nick how do you feel it in terms of "cutting water" vs the 120, does the 106 feels clunky?
Without it fully loaded with fishing gear it goes through the water pretty good. Once you continue adding weight it gets a bit slower. The 120 does a better job.
What is more stable the 106 or the 120? Is longer less stable?
@NavarreKayakFishing how long is your truck bed with the tailgate down?
I think it’s about 6.5’. 5’ bed. Can’t remember exactly. Maybe I’ll record a video about truck bed length vs kayak length.
would be cool to show the kayaks in different truck beds with measurements, what is needing a bed extender etc.
good info

So at 5’9” would I still be far forward in one? Also how good would one be fishing inshore? Thanks!
You would be further forward than I was. I wouldn’t say to far though. Solid for inshore if you’re not making long pedals.
@@NavarreKayakFishing thanks for the feedback. I would have never thought about the bow being low like that!

If it’s a long pedal or you’re fighting the tide/wind I would personally want a 132. But short trips, docks, and so on it will crush it.
