When my daughter was 3 or 4 she'd walk around the house in her princess dress singing Neil melodies she knew by heart. Damn how I miss those days.

Neil Young is a national treasure. So many memories of listening to his music even in my childhood. A lover of music, but no one makes me feel as much as Neil does.
Epic tune! A favorite for sure! ❤🙌

yeah, sadly he went nutso in later years with all his never-Trump political rhetoric, but he helped me through my teenage years early 1970's so I just dial it back and remember those days. Got to give him credit for that.

Words, Cowgirls in the sand... et tellement d'autres ! Une époque aujourd'hui disparue ce qui renforce le pouvoir de cette musique. Merci Neil. ❤

Thank you Canada, because a world without Neil Young would be a colder, harsher and much more dismal place, indeed! I've loved Neil's music since the '70's and will until I'm ashes, dust and someone's memory. And even after all that (hehe). But right now, the fact that UA-cam had the stones to place a damn commercial ad right in the middle of this epic song makes this tune even sadder.

Also, you are so correct with the rest. No one can even come close to the quantity AND quality of music that he has released in the last SIXTY years.
I'm retired now, and have tickets to see them in Phoenix in April.
C'mon Neil! Ten more albums, PLEASE!

A jewel of a tune from old Neil on this version of Words from his best album to date, who would of thought that this once clean cut boy from Northern Ontario Canada with a shaky voice at the best of times could transform himself into one of the greatest songwriting / performers ever. I'm sixty nine !
    Mes amis m'aiment-ils encore ?

@LAR - your analysis here is pretty much Spot On.. As is so often the case, ones lifelong dreams often fall short in reality.. But it's more about the cycle of life that is misplaced along the way.. Every peak is followed by descent, and I think that Neil Young understands that more than any other singer-songwriter of the era.. He speaks to Everyone, but his Music is far more complex.. It's curious, unusual, profound, and yet engaging.. You have to keep listening, and listening again, until his lyrics are firmly cemented in your head.. This is why Great Music and Great Art endure.. These words, and these images, hold different meanings for Everyone who hears them, or sees them.. Everyone is on their own journey, and once an Artist releases a new piece of work, well, they no longer Own that work.. It now belongs to the Masses, to the Public.. And that is what makes Great Art so Powerful.. Everyone is able to take from it what they Need.. All of those things that stir our Emotions are layered somewhere in that great piece of work.. And I know that Neil has always been aware of that power.. It's been the force behind his unusual songwriting style, his fragile vocal delivery, and certainly in his guitarwork.. What else is there to say... Great Art and Great Music is what keeps us Alive...
    Lary

Interesting, the part where Neil stops the song and gives instructions to the band on how he wants the refrain being played, which can be heard on the original 1972 double LP (Journey through the Past) has been completely edited out and in a very clever way. This happens at approximately 2:52, the only trace of something going on at this point is the fact that in this mix they play the refrain only once instead of twice.

He wrote this when Carrie's relatives were visiting and as relatives do they talk and to Neil it was just Words...so listen to the lyrics, he describes exactly what was going on that day and moment. btw--why hasnt he written a song yet about the plight of the Canadian Truckers and their Freedom Stance? He wrote Ohio, and Lets Roll--but nothing for Canadian working class?

Because the truckers and their freedom stance is bullshit, lol. Neil Young is pretty clearly on the side of people vaccinating for the greater good of society. Did you miss the whole Joe Rogan thing?

You think Young should write about a bunch of Qspirators who refuse to do anything to help society stop a deadly pandemic that has killed over 6 million people world wide? When the reason he left Spotify was because of the spread of deadly misinformation which is exactly what the Frydumb Trucksters were doing.
