This episode was back in the 1990s, when people were still being taught that eating fat makes you fat. This myth really started a 120 years ago,
when they invented cold cereals in order to reduce fat intake. People still cling to this theory. Before that, the common wisedom was that if you
want lose weight, you knock off the carbs, but they called it starch, instead of carbs. Turns out that fat does not make you fat, and so many people
lived their lives overweight by avoiding fat and eating more sugar, and suffered diabetes and other health issues, including social shunning and shaming.

Well, it's a little bit more to it actually. There are different types of fats. Overconsuming trans fats will definitely make you fat, specially in combination with "fast" carbs (people seldom eat fats alone). Poly and monosaturated fats can on the other hand increase metabolism and help reverse diabetes type 2. You still need to know what kind of fat you eating.

The issue is that people think, and still think, that fat is making people fat, when it's carbs. Breakfast cereals are making us fat. Kellogg was incorrect, but he sold a lot of product. This is also an issue with vegetarians, in that they reduce their fat intake, but need to keep the allure of good tasting food, which usually translates into carbs. .

From what i remember from college, when they make a dairy product non-fat that usually means they're adding copious amounts of sugar to replace that fats flavor. Sugar is much worse for you than fat is and there is more sugar in non-fat dairy and there is fat and sugar in whole dairy products.
