Great production. I think it's cool how high quality of a camera you used along with the microphone, and you don't say anything. It's like ASMR or something. That's a huge hole saw as well, didn't know they made them that big. Beautiful enclosure.
Thank you! I've always enjoyed the sounds of a solo workshop. Banging and crashing and sawing then silence.
The hole saw was a megga cheat I must admit, I could have cut the hole many other ways but this was the quickest. I think it's 180mm or something similar
I love the attention to detail. You make everything just right. Good work, and keep doing things like you do
The drum set is the heart of music, and the bass guitar notes is the backbone of music.....
It is the bass guitar notes gives satisfaction.
Beautiful. I bet they sound as good as they look.
the switches between loud industrial noises and quiet with birds chirping was oddly satisfying! just when I thought I couldn't appreciate speaker builds more, you make a video of your work. your precision is humbly refreshing. but my favourite part is how it looks :)
you are a man of many fine crafts, John.
aznjigga13 thanks brother. Glad you like it :)
Beautiful Speaker
I love speakers a lot;) i know a thing or two but just wanted to know if you could make a complete beginners guide. So i would be able to make my own little speaker
D1zzy Kirby meets audio on UA-cam already has this. I've learnt almost everything I know from him so it's best to just start with him
Awesome build and design!!! I want it.
The wood cutting smells till here in my room amazing smell
amazing job :-)
nice quality workmanship
WELL DONE
superb. . very nice looking enclosure . . solid body.
Nice job! Very clean look, and probably sounds real nice too 😄
Micah Nixon thanks mate, it does sound good and I've used it for many house parties without a complaint
l was going to say "hey there is no magnet of that subwoofer!" then l realized it was a passive radiator. lol
Electronics For Fun imagine two 6inch subs on the side of this box hahaha!!
yeah that would be pretty cool, get a nice tight and punchy bass without having a giant subwoofer rumbling the whole thing to pieces.
Electronics For Fun not practical though. The box would have to be much, much larger and at that point I might as well build a sub and bring it along wherever I take this thing haha
you think so, with 6 inch subs?
Electronics For Fun one 6 and a half inch sub would require an extra 6.7L per sub. Currently the drivers in there have roughly 3.5L each side
OMG! The quality is so sharp, I had to back-off, since the screen wanted my money ;)
Did you "tune" the passive radiators with weights? If so, could you describe that process? Really enjoyed the video. Thx!
I did not tune them. However I believe that when you add more weight you cut off higher frequencies, but you also make it harder to move at lower frequencies. So the volume would need to be higher for them to produce just bass
Oh wow, good job John!!!
After watching that apartment in one hour and watching your video, I can definitely say that things built with time, dedication, passion and quality, takes time.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
How long did you take to make this and the other ones on your other video?
Thanks buddy!
I only really had time to work on it for about three hours a week. So it took many months hahah!!
@John Grech
Oh wow, busy life huh, it doesn’t matter how long you took to build them, what really matters is that you were able to finish these projects and that is admirable, hats off to you, you got my respect! Haha
😁👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 🎩
Great man....but i think its good make passive Generator ...👏👏👍👍👍
Handsome box sir!
helpfull video
Hi John. Excellent build. Love the presentation and the detail of the wood. Can I ask where did you get the form sealant strips that you put on the top from? I'm building a potable boom box my self and need something to make my build air tight to avoid harming the audio quality
Thankyou and regards
Daniel 👍
Daniel Hutchinson hey buddy, thank you! The sealant strips I got are just from the hardware store. They are self adhesive strips to seal windows. I'm not sure where you are located but in Australia the hardware store I used is Bunnings and it's called Raven 5m Door And Window Seal. Just pick something not too thick because it'll be a pain to seal without many screws
Thankyou very much I will have a look
Much obliged
Daniel
In the UK the most expensive part would be... the timber. That hardwood would cost a fortune here. i'd have to use manky ol' MDF
To be honest it wasn't cheap here either. I think it came out to roughly $40 a metre
Would have been beautiful with 45 degree corners.
Nice quality, but it isnt a sealed box. Air may leak through the non existent dustcaps, the non glued back panel, through the switches and probably where the front speakers meet the wood.
Appreciate for you, your tools so very complete
You should try the fxtreme DB450 DSP amp! it is wayy better then any wondom/dayton boards, and it has literally everything already build in, bluetooth, DSP, 4 channels and even a freakin step up booster! so basically a AIO lol.... i already bought it a few weeks ago and it really is the best amp money can buy
I'll look into it for my next project
i enjoyed this video
Beautifull!!!
How many days for 9 min. video?
Age of Doom cheers! I think this ended up taking about four weeks but only because I had very limited time after work and on the weekends. I've started a new build and it's taken months because of the same time constraints. But it's 75% finished :)
This looks fantastic, and the heavy, quality material mitigates my only criticism, but I'm hoping this isn't quite a perfect cube. Equal sides mean the speakers' vibration can hit resonance in every direction at the same time.
NEVERMIND I just say the internal compartment! Very nice way to deliver a cube without the drawbacks!
No, surely not a cube. Thanks buddy :)
looks sweet, will be attempting something similar, just not a cube and with 3.5in speakers/radiators me thinks. How does the 2x30 go for this application? i was thinking 2x15 for portable.
Depends on the driver, some are more efficient than others. 2x15 will do perfectly if you design the enclosure correctly and pick the right drivers. Plus battery life will be 2x better
Donny Terek has put together one of the best wiring diagrams I have ever seen for a Bluetooth system that incorporates WIFI, crossovers and a switch to select between the two signals. You can download the schematics from his UA-cam site or his Instructables channel. cdn.instructables.com/ORIG/FD7/F5PM/JRGOIVF2/FD7F5PMJRGOIVF2.pdf
jarring sounds
Of course, I have no idea how it sounds as I'm listening to it via a laptop.
John, what size is your box? And did you use WinISD for calculating the passive radiators? If yes, can u please share me your winisd files? Great video thanks!
Hí đóng đẹp quá anh ơi. Mà bị khuyết điểm là không phân rõ treble bass nên khi hát 2 âm tiết đi cùng lúc làm vở tiếng .
Not accurate representation, but who cares? It looks very good and I am pretty sure it sound way much better than some of the market speakers. So it is like a boombox with a subwoofer and 2 speakers for Highs and Mediums ? Looks good anyway, well done!
สวยๆครับ👍👍👍
I like. What models did you use? How are the mids on those two speakers? I'm looking to buy those ones for my build, but don't know how they sound.
The link to the drivers are in the description, the mids are good but it lacks low end. Better off porting it or adding a larger woofer for the lows
@@Blober112 Awesome to know! Been wanting to know this for awhile. Maybe ported and tuned around 30-50hz should sound a tad better. I don't suggest anything lower than 30hz for this type of build. BUT it also depends on what type of music you (anyone) listens to. -- I have no clue how I didn't see the links.. whoops lol. Thanks!
How does it sound in person how crisp are those Dayton drivers?
Hayden 2000 I can't recommend them enough, however I would pare it with a tweeter for ideal crispness. In my next build which should be done soon, I do put a tweeter with this driver and a subwoofer and it sounds perfect
I don’t kno man...sounds lIke everything else I’ve ever heard on UA-cam:)
How did you connect the Sub-woofer to the Amp board. Does it have separate connections to power the sub. Does the board support 2.1 channel audio as opposed to 2 channel only.
This board has two channel only
Holy shit you're famous
those mids don't have their own isolated chambers you will have so many resonant peaks.
WV591 if you look at 6:54 you can see a division.
The 6 1/2" are passive. So they won't be muddying up the sound of the mids.
Alpha Machina correct
i think you didn't watch the entire video 😂 are you blind mate?
Adorei as ideias
Them report pause successful piano reception enough fan
This might be a noob question, but what kind of screws did you use on the exterior? They have a nice color and look like they're coated.
JR I think they were just brass. Standard stuff you can buy from the hardware
Thank you for replying. They just caught my eye for some reason, they had a nice sheen/color to them. It matched the theme.
John Grech what are the cube's sizes??? tnx
and the thickness of the boards
Good work! Are the radiators not to big for the 4" drivers?
Gabor Kovacs I did a bit of research before building and I found that you need a radiator 1.5x to 2x bigger than your main driver
John Grech aaah, ok, i never hear informations about this, thank You very much! 👍 how its sounds? ☺ i mean, the bass, is enough? I cant imagine, how this beauty sounds
It does sounds good, I'm still learning how to build speakers and I think I could have squeezed more bass out of it by using a port rather than the radiators. It does look cooler like this though haha!! I can get down to 60ish herz but because it's a full range driver it doesn't quite perform like that when playing music because it needs to focus on all the frequencies. I tend to use an EQ to boost the bass and lower the highs to make it perform better when it's on it's own. Right now its home is in my room hooked up to the TV, paired with a sub-woofer without an EQ.
Check back in a couple of weeks, i'll be uploading a new video then with my latest build. It's this exact same driver but with a port and paired with a tweeter and a new subwoofer.
thank You! i cant wait, to see, what You build next! :- )i have home the Bose Acoustimass 10 series 4 system, i will build someday this brutal subwoofer ,one day, little bigger (not 4 home! my neighbors hate me whit this system already!!!!! :- ) :- ) ) whit 2, 12" drivers, for a car, or for outside
How did you get on with the dayton amplifier, I had so many issues with it, was it giving you any noise while it wasn't playing music?
Ari SJ yeah, but only when I have it hooked up to my tv. It's weird sometimes.
Why on earth did you use perforated non-sealing foam to seal your edges?
Ev3rM0r3 what do you recommend?
It is also sealing foam for air tight windows, I think it will do
Fantastic build :) are you Maltese ?
Andre Haber very much so my friend
WHEN HAVING SUBWOOFER IN SAME BOX AS MIDRANGE ! YOU MAKE SEPARATE BOX/CHAMBER FOR THEM SMARTYPANTS !!! Uhhhjh amateur...but it looks nice ill give you that...
They're passive radiators.
E as calopsitas pirando com o barulho !!!
Nah he's good
p.s. - your foam's too thick.
He just wanted to show us he has a lot of tools
I have a few, yeah
Should had cut all the sides in a angle
как называется это дерево.красивая структура.
Очень похоже на дуб
is this still stereo?
thobb tismahhom jistartjaw il magni mid derha!!!! ......u ibza ghal subajk btw!
No crossovers?
Because there is only one full range driver per side there is no need for a crossover. The larger speaker on the side is just passive, to help with bass, it doesn't actually have a magnet - nor is it connected to the amplifier
John Grech ahh i thought it was powered. Passive woofers dont work unless you have another active woofer to power them. They should be matched 1:1 normally and from the looks of things the tuning frequency wasnt set on this
sam smith yeah the radiators don't put out much extra bass. Future research is needed before I try with them again. I got a similar result by adding a 1 inch by 4 inch port and that's $30 cheaper per speaker haha
Funny magnetic fail between 5:54 and 6:02. But it is a very good stuff. I think I can build a 2.1 sound system for my computer by this way (when I didn't build every speaker in one box and connect them with wire).😀 Please take to me the list of the parts what you use to make this great stuff.
Haha yeah I had to hold back my giggles every time I tried to drill next to a magnet!
If you hold tight I have some speakers on their way to make a 2.1 setup for my computer and i'll be filming that, you're welcome to copy that for yourself. For now I will add a parts list in the description.
Разве в одной камере можно ставить динамики ?
Тут вся конструкция непонятно что объем короба откуда такие размеры динамики вообще несогласованные нет фильтров хотя бы 2 порядка короче в гараж такую залепу и все
Hello, I really liked your video, I'm passionate about sound, I would like to try to make a box like yours, would you like me to measure this sound?
Thank you very much in advance.
I don't know
Music name pls? :P
Juicy balls
Anyone have any tips on how to make this portable with Dayton parts. So I can take it somewhere else.
Outcast Imaging they do sell a battery board that goes with the amplifier
John Grech thank you. i would like to make it similar to yours but also have an 8” inch sub with only one passive radiator. Any tips for that too?
Loa đẹp quá a ơi
dont have tweeter ??
versus023 to keep costs down and to make it more simple I skipped the tweeter. These full range drivers produce enough highs for the average person
whats the hz of these driver ?
It can range between 80 to 20,000 Hz
Obviously a crossover and tweeter would be better but like I said, simplicity and cost
I think that 2 midrange are good enough
Ehm... That's not a cube. Very cool speaker though! :)
John Arne Nergård it's cube 'like' I guess haha. Dayton rectangle has less of a ring to it
Cheers mate
looking at the wood, it seems too dense for this application..........
Mahipal Yadav is there such a thing?
Som loud birbs I hear
Daytube
Advise if you don't talk put some nice music.
The style I was going for, and am continuing to use, is to give the viewer a straight up perspective of what It's like to be in my workshop. Sounds and all. I rarely work with music on and barely talk to myself so I portrayed that in the video. All you can hear are power tools and birds
Поведет эту конструкцию изначально на феленку делать а это все хрень
звук в конце, как будто в уши насрали....
Если что можно этой хренью отбиться от врагов.
That was hard to watch.
Help me improve, what's the issue bro :)
Cheers I appreciate the feedback. Firstly Dado sets are expensive and I can think of many joins that look better and are easier. All of my tools are hand downs from my father or bought second hand, I bought the table saw for $50 used and I couldn't warrant buying a $190 dado set just yet. Saying that I did just use a butt joint in this and round the edge to make it look better but it's honestly all I wanted for this. Something simple. I don't see a problem with the screws, please explain?
Honestly I don't know what i'm doing when it comes to dampening, I didn't have any of the wool stuff you'd normally put in a speaker but I had that stuff so I just put it in. It sounds fine for a boom box but later when I build more high end stuff I'll research it better.
My only issue was the saw marks and burns left in the wood. A little more time sanding would have gone a long way in the looks dept. Other than that it seems solid enough.
wissbaum I agree, I needed to spend more time on it but I only got an hour or so each day after work and I really just wanted it finished. I never thought I'd get any of these views on UA-cam, if I knew I would have made this a lot better haha!
Oh well, you learn from your mistakes
John Grech I don't even think Kama knows what he or she is talking about, furniture making or speaker building. Finger joints? Please. Finger joints are not necessary for speaker enclosures and is not the norm. Damping material between passive radiator and enclosure? l to prevent air leakage, doesn't he or she understand something as basic as that? Kama Kairade, you don't know anything, stop trying to sound like an expert with "çonstructive criticism".
а чёнормально зделона
OMG... Another how to build a box video. I've wasted mass amounts of my time watching "Bluetooth Speaker Build" Videos, including this one. Most of the time is spent building a box! Who cares?
Little or NO time is spent on wiring crossovers, what capacitors to use, where to plug wires, resistors and/or battery banks needed and/or what to solder. I'm a noob at this. I can build a box. What I can't do is wire up a Bluetooth speaker system. Please rename your video to 'How To Build A Box'....Thanks
I've recently built another with crossovers
My apologies John, I'm Just really frustrated. I have to wear a headset (because of the baby) and I have burned through so many videos with loud table saws, routers and/or music that sounds like someone skinning a cat that I'm starting to go nutzoid. I'm beginning to believe the wiring is some highly guarded secret. BTW, your speaker is awesome and I would love to build one....just show us how to wire is...thanks.
@@rj27588 I tried the balance the audio to a more consistent level in my other video, and am working harder on it in my next video. I did not include the wiring in this because it's too difficult to capture so people can understand, and making the shots longer would solve this but then I'd have a much longer video. Plus, I'm not sure I got the wiring to a high enough standard for the youtube trolls.
Are you specifically wiring in the Dayton Audio bluetooth board?
bad quality
I was liking your video, until I realized you have birds(who have wings and can go anywhere they want) in cages, somewhere in the background.
Tell me I'm mistaken, please.
stupidiest design...
I can't please everyone
@@Blober112 you cant allow them play in same space together...
@@PATISHAH they aren't! Yes a driver and a passive radiator are playing in the same space, that's how they work. But the two drivers are in seperate chambers, sealed off from each other.
@@Blober112 i thought its a woofer, not radiator... Sorry...
ugly box
cool project. which dayton speaker drivers did you use?
ziggy8757 4inch full range reference drivers 4ohms and 6 1/2 passive radiators
John Grech I made the Amiga towers with 7 inch reference drivers. I love the reference series
