And THIS is why you are the Ford Boss. If that was my vehicle I would have been scared silly. I can only imagine a shop that didn't know this and what they would have recommended to fix it. KUDOS to you, Rich. Damn nice diag and fix.
My 2022 Explorer has been doing this since 12000 miles. Dealer says “It’s normal “. They questioned me about 4000 mile oil changes . “Manual says 10000 miles”. Not doing that with mine.
Great job as always Rich. Funny that Ford never implemented this as a TSB. Hmm! Guess I'm going to be on a look out when something this ends up coming to me. Thanks!
There is a fix for this... I think FordTechMakuLoco pulled out the CV joints, filled the hub splines with red grease, greased the CV Joint splines with red grease, and put it all back together, cleaned off the excess grease and torqued down the CV Joints nut using locktite. He did this on the rear axle of a Police Cruiser Explorer.
I have a 2013 Edge AWD. When the vehicle is parked in the garage it makes that same popping sound at the rear wheel if I happen to lightly brush up against the car with my body. Is this the same fix for AWD vs FWD on the Explorer?
Is this procedure needed because the splines are worn, causing extra clearance? The CV axel splines don't come greased from the factory as far as I know
I was thinking the noise was coming form the parking brake. Did those wheels come from the manufacturer with the dual bolt pattern or were they redrilled to fit?

That's a might fine job, Rich. I'm glad I don't live in the rust belt.😊

I have a ct4v Blackwing and they said the same thing to me too I said; "quick - get to the part where changing my oil mOre often is going to hurt?"

Keeps em clean though.
Sum ting wong.
Crooked shops would have sold them new half shafts, and brake pads.. LOL
Rich do you know why this is? My guess is poor tolerances overtime the locktite breaks down. Great video.
Yes surface tension
and garbage ford quality....
Is this procedure needed because the splines are worn, causing extra clearance? The CV axel splines don't come greased from the factory as far as I know
To tight surface tension and corrosion
and garbage ford parts....
Weres the link!
I assume that the Lincoln navigator and aviator are built the same?
