I wish there were more people like you who would provide all the information I needed to setup not just Batocera, but every other kind of emulation front end and Linux system. I say this, because I've been using Retrobat recently, which is also powered by EmulationStation. Unfortunately, while I can find tutorials on how to install it, setting it all up is another story. But thank you so much for your dedication to helping everyone getting Batocera working according to their liking.

I made this entirely inside batocera, first formatting the external to ext4, then install batocera there, then turn off the system, boot the new flashed hdd (for the system make the resizes ), turn off the system again, now boot from the original hdd, while inside the batocera Ui , connect the newer batocera drive, now, backup batocera folders into that newer drive.

I installed to the new drive from the Batocera menu of the existing drive and then overwrote the Share folder. Took hours to copy over but it worked!

I did everything with your first method. When i booted up the copy, it was showing the same size disk as the original. After doing a little research. I had to get gparted on a flash drive and resize the partition with the extra unallocated space.

Cheers. I used win2imager to make an image of the original microSD card onto a HDD, then use it to write the image to the new bigger card. This doesn't make use of the of extra space, so you edit the boot-config.conf to activate autoresize. It seems to work ok and is free. What I did find was that batocera behaves a bit odd when the mSD card is full - for some reason, deleting roms doesn't give you back some space. And then at one point the theme changed by itself and roms stopped working . Not sure what happened but in the end I just wrote the image again and was more careful about keeping to the mSD card capcity.

    As always, a fantastic video!
If you would like to save your image as a backup file that you can write to as many other drives you want Win32 Disk Imager is a fantastic free solution as well. You can then use Etcher to write the image file to your preferred storage medium.
You can shrink the image file with GParted if it ends up being slightly too big for your drive.
Just keep in mind your image backup will be using a significant amount of storage wherever you choose to save it.

Belanaetcher is great for this purpose, it will clone everything perfectly from my experience, it worked really well with emuelec cloning, my batocera build is way more valuable I've only just set it up on a 500gb hdd and it's almost full but imma switch to a 480gb ssd then get a 1tb ssd to replace it I might even compress some files 1st... instead of removing 20gb of games, its running well so far on the beelink sei8 i5-8279u 16gb model apart from a bit of occasional stutter on some games without using hacks 💯

balena etcher clone works fine. but you have to take out the usb after you clone because it conflicts and doesn't show up. as far as windows is concerned, you've got 2 items that are exactly the same in and it doesn't know how to display both.

I watched another UA-camr's video showing how to use a clone function on Etcher as well. It looked simple. All you need to do at the end is to resize the disk drive if the new disk has a larger volume. With that method, no hassle to redo the settings, themes, and bunches of configurations again. I don't understand this UA-camr method trying to flash a new disk with Etcher and manually copy the files. It looks impractical if you have lots of tweaks in the configuration like Sinden gun setting.

Just expand the share partition using a tool like disk genies then you are all set. Whenever you want to backup your system just copy and paste the already customized image.

Recently swapped out my 2TB HDD for a 4TB SSD.
I just simply moved all folders across.
No issues there but the only thing was all but one of my emulators settings were back to default auto settings.
So had to go through all emu settings and set them again.
Not a huge issue just takes a little time.
But what was a major pain was for higher systems like ps2,xbox,gamecube I had some per game settings,so to check and set each of them (from memory) was defo a pain and time consuming.

Well done ! Aomei is good and i use it for windows clones. If you are able to prepare a ubuntu USB Boot stick : you can work with GNOME disks to image disks and partitions, and you can copy partitions with gparted. Open source and Linux based like batocera. I only make partition clones of the boot partition (fat32). The share partition can be then flexibly prepared with NTFS, ext4, btrfs (in my case a nas drive) and so on. Use refind for dualboot. For trained linuxers there are many flexible options to install existing batocera builds on internal harddisks without destroying windows.

However, something is not clear: around 5:00, once you've cloned your hard drive with Balena Etcher, you still have to copy your share partition to the cloned disk? If that's the case, then what has been cloned with Balena Etcher?

    • @greenman360

Macrium reflect will clone batocera for free the one downside with cloning is that if you clone a smaller sized drive to a larger one it will not uttilise the larger capacity of the bigger drive so maybe the free batocera way is the route to go if that's what you're planning on doing.

I used a live Ubuntu distribution yesterday to clone from a 2gb to 5gb and once booted ran gparted, copied the boot partition from the original drive and then pasted it to the new drive and clicked the check mark to complete the operation. Next I did the same thing with the share partition. When that finished I re-sized the share partition to use the remaining unallocated space and my drive seems to be working fine. Is there anything wrong with the way I did it? That kept me from having to pay for any software and also kept me from having to do a copy and paste of my share folder because when I tried it that way before I got read/write errors on a few hundred files 10 hours into the process and had to start over.

    • @antoniobanderas7208

@@joeypowell05 you did it well!😆 I use to double check with gparted the new enlarged fs, but honestly, that is not necessary as gparted does it after any resize action. In years i had not one accident with gparted, and i do it a lot on regular basis with windows and linux installs. you can also check in batoceras system info that new space is detected. Note, you did not need to install a prog on your win system.

You should be able to see the available disk space using any partitioning software, try using and open source free tool such as Gparted to see if it can view the entire disk. You can also extend the disk partition, without data loss if there is free space available. Good luck.

macrium reflect allows you to make an image of a drive and restore it where you want. And its free to use. I think its the best because if your computer is working perfect or you want to make some big changes and test software or maybe just test something shady and you create the image of your c drive which usually takes 3 minutes for me and you can restore it exactly how it was before you made those changes. Same rule applies to cloning. you can finalize your build with all roms and features and themes and just clone it but the problem is that right now im unsure because one of my laptops doesn't seem to recognize batocera and I want to find out why because it is the newest laptop.

Yes, it should be compatible, but it will all depend on how you want to use this disk. You will probably have to reformat the disk from the orginal exfat to be able support Batocera's file system requirement. Batocera is using Linux, and has it's own boot partition as well as the entire filesystem is ext4. So if you were to use the entire drive, then you could just use Etcher to install Batocera onto the external USB SSD, then once it has been installed, you will go into your Lenovo Legion boot menu (F12, I think) and choose the SanDisk Portable SSD, and it should boot off it.

Some newer laptops have that Bitlocker built in which makes it hard to run another OS on it. That has nothing do to with Batocera and Batocera has no control over it. The PC manufacturers install this and sometimes you can unlock it or disable it. Look to see if your laptop has a security lock installed and see if you can disable it so that you can use Batocera on it.

Has anyone changed the file system on the drive? Inside batocera there is a tools folder for btfrs file system but I don’t know what it does. I want to change file system so that wine runs games much better but without losing data. Is this even possible?

As it states, its to change the file format type, I believe if you did this it wipes any files you have on so if you do that do it after a fresh flash before you put games on.
I actually never tried doing it within Batocera but I have externally.
In that mean I used to boot Batocera from a flash drive and run roms from a sep portable drive but the portable drive was formatted to ntfs. This is so I could drag and drop files over from another PC.
But I cant say if PC games will run any better using ext4,btfrs, ntfs, exfat or anything else.
The Batocera wiki has some info on using diff file systems. Have a look there.

Hello AMAZING FRONTEND but i have some Questions:
Is it possible to do in Batocera:
    1. I understand that the batocera is fully configurable, so you can upload your own video, covers, etc. without modifying the file?
    2. Is it possible to set Batocere to launch a different video intro in Hs each time it is started? Can this be done using the Randomizer program?
    3. You can do a circle in a circle, the so-called Hs Nested wheels, I enter the collection of the so-called Consoles and I have a list of PSX, PS2 consoles, etc. and only after entering a given console do I choose a game?
    4. Loading screen and video like e.g. in Hs?
3.Is there such a thing as Hyperpause?
    5. Bezel question
    - Changing the bezel with a button to another on the fly
    - Is it possible to put an instruction card on the Bezel

    6. Are there any systems that Batocera does not support ?
If you can do such miracles, then Batocera THE BEST OF THE BEST KING and you can support such a frontend🤩😍🤩😍
