  • Here are The Differences between the Xenomorphs of Alien Romulus and the Original Alien of 1979. Beginning with Origins: The first difference between these two aliens is of course their origin point. The original xenomorph called Big chap from the 1979 alien movie began as an Ovomorph that was discovered inside a derelict space jockey ship.
    The facehugger in both Alien Romulus and the original Alien (1979) maintain the same terrifying design-a spider-like creature with eight legs and a long, prehensile tail. These appendages allow the facehugger to latch onto a host and facilitate the insertion of genetic material, which would later develop into an embryo inside the host, eventually bursting out in the form of a chestburster.
    When it comes to the chestburster, both iterations are nearly identical at first glance-slimy, terrifying creatures that violently emerge from their host in one of the most iconic scenes in cinema history. But here’s where the differences begin to emerge.
    One of the biggest differences comes with the introduction of the cocoon stage in Alien Romulus. In this film, after Navarro’s chestburster brutally kills her and makes its escape, her surviving companions stumble upon a massive cocoon attached to a nearby wall.
    Now, when we look at the Drone itself-the fully grown xenomorph-there are some distinct size differences. "Big Chap," the xenomorph from the 1979 film, stands at an imposing 7 feet 2 inches (218 cm) tall, towering over its human victims. On the other hand, the Romulus xenomorph is a bit smaller in stature, though still quite intimidating.
    The head is another notable area of contrast. Big Chap’s iconic translucent dome, which measured about 3 feet (90 cm) long, is pale and almost ghostly in appearance. It’s a key part of what makes the creature look so unnervingly alien.
    Moving on to the arms and hands, Big Chap has a pair of six-fingered hands, with two double interlocked digits in the middle and two side thumbs, giving it a unique and unsettling look.
    The feet also shows a stark contrast. Big Chap has more human-like feet, with a spike protruding from the back of the ankle, and it primarily walks upright, much like a human.
    The upper torso remains similar between the two, though there are a couple of key differences. The ribcage on the Romulus alien is smaller and sits higher on its chest, giving it a sleeker, more agile appearance.
    Growth rate Difference - In the original film, the facehugger that latched on to Kane’s face implanted an embryo inside his chest that took quite a few hours to gestate.

      Ain't the whole reason for the slight redesigning was because the aliens (facehuggers and xenomorph alike) is not naturally produced? They are man-cultivated, hence the slight variation.
      Your "if it ain't broken, don't fix it" comment only makes sense if we are talking about natural-bred aliens.
      Although Alien: Isolation has redesigned the Xenos legs into that of backwards knee (like animals) instead of staying true like the original, more human shaped legs like in the original movie. But people had no complaints.

      @@off-beatdrummer different directors had been trying to change the alien design since the first. This includes ridley himself. All the different reasoning you hear are fans trying to clean up the mess. They all have one issue though. They almost always try to remove or the biomechanical aesthetics, which was giger's main signature. This is the signature that they often try to "write" over to get a piece of the pie that put Giger in the spotlight.
      - The insectile aesthetic and bony dome in the second movie was James Cameron wanting his queen design to get the spotlight, and avoiding fragile transparent domes. plus he thinks exagerrating the limbs is a better look. He avoided having Giger join the production precisesly so he can change it however he wants.
      - The Dog alien in the third movie kicked Giger out of production so producers can get the design credits and looks they prefer.
      - The fourth movie was the director deciding that making the xenos more monstrous and exagerrated is a way to make it better.
      - In Prometheus and covenant, Ridley simply want to have full control of the franchise by retconning the biomechanical look and design of the space jockey and the ship. Fans say the xenos look like zombies because they are prototype xenos. But the effects team in an interview with Adam Savage clearly said that the "fleshy" design was a directive aimed at quote: "making the creature's appearance more evolved" compared to the original.
      Notice that the actual reasoning for all the design changes was never based on building up the lore.This is why they are often inconsistent. for example, there is no reason for the dog alien in alien 3 to have humanoid facial traits despite it coming from a dog.
      Alien Romulus in no different. There were signs of medling by the higher-ups and Ridley himself. Fede probably wouldn't be able to make it if he didn't say yes to them. For example, the "get away from her you b***h" line was originally not there. It was added in post production.

    One of the things that never made sense in the original, and even less so in the sequels (AVP, Covenant, Romulus) where the whole cycle became faster and faster, is the chest burster bursting out so quickly. The host seems basically unused - no organs, fat, muscle tissue etc. absorbed/eaten - making the point of it's being implanted in a host rather pointless. You look at insects that grow inside hosts in real life, they practically hollow out their host using every part of it for sustainence before making their escape. Instead of fixing this in sequels, they make it worse by having the chest burster inside for an hour rather than 10 or so.

    • @EternalRoman
      @EternalRoman 5 днів тому

      There are reasons for the time discrepancy that sadly were not directly addressed on screen. In AVP1 it was that the Alien Queen was being injected with chemicals and the electric shocks would accelerate her egg laying, and as such it also affected the Facehuggers' implantation time and chestbursting by increasing the speed. The ones on AVPR were still part of the AVP1 Batch as well as the Young PredAlien Queen on film.
      Fede Alvarez, director of ROMULUS had explained in some videos that the ROMULUS aliens since were artificially created, it also affected the speed of growth, propagation and births, essentially saying that the creatures seen on the film would die off quickly too due to rapid aging. This included the dumb Offspring mutant at the end of the film.
      So overall, Natural Aliens would have hours of implantation, birth and growths, while the artificial or created variant ones and those used and spread by Predators would have an accelerated metabolism that would eventually end their lives quicker too.

    • @botoxbabyy
      @botoxbabyy 4 дні тому +2

      The romulus aliens have a more rapid life cycle due to them being artificially bred. I used to believe the reason why the chestburster in romulus sort of struggled to burst out navarro's chest was because it was underdeveloped (due to the facehugger being removed so quickly), but now its probably just that the xenos in romulus are generally weaker than big chap because they stem from big chap's dna.

    • @EternalRoman
      @EternalRoman День тому +1

      @@shadow-squid4872 I need to correct that. In fact in the original script of ALIEN, it was stated that Xenomorphs do eat some of their victims, either by taking chunks out of them or in the misinterpreted "egg morphing" cocoons. These cocoons, referred as "Spore Pods" are where Dallas and Brett were. Ripley was adamant of removing Dallas out of the Pod, till Dallas tells here "It's too late, it has eaten too much from me".
      You can confirm this in the last ALIEN comic of the script published by Dark Horse Comics, titled: ALIEN The Dan O'Bannon Script, or by reading the Dan O'Bannon not too altered script. But to be more sure, you can even hear it from the interviews of the cast themselves like Tom Skerrit, Yaphet Koto, Sigourney Weaver and even Veronica Cartwright when they are asked about details on set. All on video and they all talked about the Alien cocooning Dallas and Brett for food. Which in script rewrites and articles of the time explained that the cocooned served as melting the host into liquid food for the Alien. Then the other ideas like one cocoon for food for the grown Alien, the other for the young the Alien wanted to implant Ripley with.
      Then the Egg morphing ideas were also pitched, hence in reality the scene was cut originally and then reintroduced in 2003 as ambiguous on its nature.

    Big Chap's facehugger came from an egg, while the Romulus facehuggers came were bioprinted. This could already lead to some differences. On top of that: the Romulus facehuggers were quite young, only being as old as the Romulus lab (months to years at the very oldest). Big Chap's facehugger was on LV-426 for a long time (enough for the Space Jockey to fossilize), so the egg being old might've also caused it to result in a weaker/damaged facehugger & thus a slower and more odd xenomorph.

      @@mindq4328 I believe that the pathogen is responsible, it was stated that by Rook that it accelerates the metabolism of anything that comes into contact with it, hence the Xenomorphs would be able to speed up the lifecycle at will. Also, Fede Alvarez's comments stated that the cocoon draws energy from the ship to feed the Xenomorph, allowing it to become an adult in short time. Thus furthering it's bio mechanical nature.
      The coccon is confirmed to be part of the Xenomorph's lifecycle and not a product of the cloning. Also, to bring it up, the Xenomorphs in Resurrection were more mutated than their originators, having their DNA strain crossed with Ripley 8's, considering that the Queen as well Ripley 8 were created from blood samples of Ripley from the events of Alien 3, hence their DNA strain was not complete compared to the ones in Romulus.

      I don't think so. The plantigrade feet were intentional in Giger's design, they weren't there because of limitations of the time. Giger designed a man-life entity, that was supposed to resemble a biomechanical alien man. The digitigrade feet make it look like raptor feet, and that wasn't Giger's intention if you see all he early designs of the Xenomorph: it wasn't an animal, it was a man-like entity, completely bipedal upright position, plantigrade feet, buttocks, none of that was because of limitations of the time, it was always the intention behind the design.

    The Xenos in "Alien: Romulus" are obviously different due to secret artificial tampering on the space station. Hence the speed-focused legs, the more compact skull allowing for easier head turns, the offensive spike on the elbows, and a narrower body making it harder to land a shot on. It is clearly designed for speed and agility, making it more of a threat against opponents with firearms.

    Lorewise, yeah, I think you could say they are different, because of how they came to be and stuff, BUT, it probably will never be explained bc it was a different technology, the first movie was simply a guy in a suit (a very good and scary one, but still a suit), while in the new ones you have CG polishing, where you can have someone dressed but there's a lot of after affects added to make it more realistic too.
    And I'm not criticising your point, since the warrior xenomorphs, from Aliens, are only called that bc they were supposed to look more mature since they were alive longer than Big Chap, but they kept having trouble with the smoot dome part, so they simply didn't use them, and now since they had the concept of a more mature Xeno, they used that as a sort of excuse to not use the smoot dome head.
    In the end, some technical issues are incorporated into the lore to cover those issues sometimes.

    • @thefran901

      Sure, but many of the features of the first Alien, like plantigrade feet, which many assume they were because of limitations of the time, are not really there because of that, they are actually part of the original design. Even before the final version, Giger was designing the early versions of the Alien with plantigrade feet and upright posture, because his intention was a man-like entity, not animalistic in any sense.

  • @frankbizzoco1954

    I think they're different simply because one movie was made in 1979 and the other in 2024. If they could get away with it in 79, they might have given Big Chap a quadrapedal leg design. They would have made him look more like "Stompy" in Alien Isolation. As far as why they look a little different, it probably comes down to different creature creators of the films, and thats about it. I know the guys from the second Alien movie worked on this movie too. They made the Alien in 1986 different simply because the carapace on the head was too delicate to film with, so Cameron said just loose it. Sometimes it's just that simple. It's like how Jason Voorhees looked different from movie to movie. As far as the face huggers, I think they looked darker for a purposeful reason. But regarding longer spikes, head or dorsal tubes, i think that was creator's perogative. As far as how fast the life cycle goes, i think it comes down to plot convenience. But hey, it's fun to think about.

    So are the Romulus aliens clones? Would they follow a queen? Or view it as an enemy and would they view consider a drone and a warrior apart of there hive?

    I thought Romulus took place before Alien. If thats so then this doesn`t really track. Obviously tech in movie making effects have really advanced so Im saying the Romulus Xeno is more what the makers wish they could have pulled off back when Alien was made, wrather then making believe that its some genetic difference ,just leave it alone because we dont want to notice the "differences" because theres not supposed to be any difference.

      If big chap is dead in Romulus then it’s obvious that Alien took place before Romulus. I recommend watching both movies again.

    It share dna with the Asian woman.
    It also share mindmemory from its host thats why it/she saved the former hosts friend from faling down in that elevator shaft.
    🤔 Just my thought...

      No. It saved Rain because there were facehuggers in the elevator shaft & Scorch wanted her to get impregnated. Andy even kills one before he kills Scorch.
