    Hi Erin!
I’m so glad the hat pattern came in handy and yours turned out adorable!
Happens to me almost every time when I give my husband or son a chance to help me decide something and they pick something that wasn’t even in my mind as a choice 😒🫤
I LOVE your skort and sports tank! I like that the skirt portion is loose and flouncy. The solid grays will work well to mix and match with more colorful versions you’ll make later. Great use of the mystery fabric!

      Hi Michelle!
The best options always seem so obvious to us, so it doesn't even seem necessary to point them in the right direction 😂
Thank you! Running in the skort was so fun and I felt very floaty and breezy, even when I was pushing Brady in the stroller up a bridge and was literally dripping sweat 😬
I ordered some brighter athletic fabric from Surge Fabrics that will hopefully tie in well with the gray! I hope you have a great day!

Love the makes! I have no wisdom to offer in terms of « flatlock » seams… never done those before. Hope you have a fabulous weekend!

The hat is so cute, and the picture with Brady wearing it is adorable. There is nothing better in sewing than having whatever it is we make worn and appreciated, I think! I'm also thinking I need to make that skort pattern for going to the YMCA or taking the dogs out for walks. The back flounce is flirty but still has some nice coverage. I love it! The top looks really nice on you, too. I hope you have a great week!

You're totally right about how amazing it feels to have our makes worn and appreciated. I was a little heartbroken the first few day when she said she didn't want to wear the hat, but she's worn it TWICE now and apparently loves it for walks, so I'm taking the win.
The skort is a great pattern! The flounce in the back is what really sets it apart from other ready to wear skorts, or skort patterns, in my opinion. I ran in it on Friday and it made me feel very breezy and cool 😎 I don't think I looked that cool because it's a million degrees here, but hey, I felt cool at least lol. The shorts did still ride up (even with the bands) but I felt less weird about it since the skirt part covered everything.

Erin, I love all those hats! The floppy one is adorable. I love sea turtles too. I got that EXACT same fish aquarium fabric from Hobby Lobby for my husband's New Look 6197 shirt! Very cool skorts. They look great on you. Matching tank is perfect!

I love your daughters floppy hat, sea turtles are the best. I’m afraid to try active wear mainly because of the flat lock scares me as well. Have a wonderful day! 😊

She’s obsessed with them, and I have to say I’ve kind of fallen in love with sea turtles too 🥰
I talked about it a little in my latest video, but I ended up making a pair of biker shorts and I top stitched all of the seams with a zig zag after serging them. It made the seams nice and flat, still gives PLENTY of stretch, and still looks pretty athletic IMO!
Someone did point me to emmaandblaine on IG for more flatlock info, so maybe check that highlight out too.

You got so much done! I can't work out where you find the time (let me know your secret please!)😂
Last week was a no sewing week for me (life got in the way) so this week has been getting back into the groove. But so far I made a pair of shorts - summer finally arrived in the UK - and I've cut out another pair plus a top in the same fabric so I'm ready to get started on them tomorrow. Your active wear looks great and I'm glad you were able to use your "mystery fabrics". Thank you

Hi Avril! I hope you had a great weekend 🤗
My secret these days is that I let my daughter absolutely trash my sewing room floor 😅 Also, this is dangerous to say, but I haven’t had any HUGE issues in the sewing room lately.
I need to make some shorts too. How are your second pair coming along? Did you have time to finish them this weekend?

    • @AvrilBrown-ld6gm

@@ErinSews I love to imagine your daughter trashing your sewing room 😂. I haven't finished the 2nd pair of shorts yet - I decided to spend a couple of days cutting things out while the table was clear. In my wisdom I decided to also make a tee shirt and had a little bit of fabric left so thought I'd make a "quick" tank top - 3 days later and I'm still trying 😭. My body is obviously not a "normal" shape!

You make the gray look fabulous, dah-ling! Those turned out very nicely! I've just taken out my serger manual again and want to give the flatlock another go. That linen will make a wonderful dress, too. 😍 I'm having a date night with younger G at an outdoor music concert tonight, so trying to get that Reeta shirtdress finished up to maybe wear. First thing I did this morning was slop coffee on it, but it's not a dealbreaker. 😆 ....does smell a little like coffee though. Have a fun week with your little sewing buddy! 😘

I ordered some fun athletic fabric from Surge fabrics to bring some color into my next athletic makes.
Another subscriber pointed me to emmaandblaine on Instagram. She has a highlight and some Q&As about flatlock where she talks about thread and her serger settings. I looked through them but will definitely rewatch when I attempt again.
Hmmmm a coffee scented dress sounds lovely. You may be onto something there.....

Hi Erin! That hat is adorable. On the 3 thread flat lock, that it probably meant to be a finish, not the actual seam. My daughter (fashion major) that for it to be an actual seam on the serger (any type of stitch) it needs to be at least a 4 thread. I don’t know if that was the issue here or not. Glad you were able to get it all to work out! The active wear all looks great on you! Have a great week! It is so great that Brady is at the age to sit in there and play with her fabric and chat while you sew!

    • @ErinSews
      @ErinSews  2 місяці тому +1

Hi Angie! Thank you for the tid bit about 3 versus 4 thread on the serger. I think you may be right about it just not being strong enough. Another subscriber pointed me to emmaandblaine on Instagram. She's a pattern designer for Styla and has a highlight about how she does flatlock for her activewear. I'm going to follow her videos when I get the gumption to attempt again 😂 I put together the Greenstyle Stride shorts on Friday though, and was really happy with the finish by just topstitching the seams down with a zig zag, so that may be what I stick to for now.
Having Brady in my sewing room is so much fun, especially when she's telling me about her fabric, or tucks Bubba (Copper) in using some fat quarters 🥰

What a fabulous week you have had! I commented on your t-shirt video in the wrong place, deleted it, and then life, ugh. I love to see how you tackle all the various fabrics and how much you learn and share with everyone. I look forward to all your videos. They feel like a visit with a friend ❤

    Hey chick.
Like the boxy one (1) yeah neck is a bit off but like the throw on style Ellie Mac - flash dance - how else can ya get your bra off without taking off ya t 😝
I like that all those instructions for pressing and sewing the knit fabrics as it can be scary for people doing it for the first second or third time - and free yeehaaa
I love the one you won’t make again. Tight arms and boxy make. If you made in a 4way stretch you might find it batter
I love a good V neck - thanks love notions
Oh yeah that last one is way too long on you honey
    Thanks for your hard yards

Thanks for the feedback! There are so many free tee patterns out there and somehow they’re all a little different! The most expensive one I tried was the LN Classic tee and I’ve been wearing it the most. I can’t decide if it’s because I think the v neck is the most flattering, or because it’s a simple white t.
People recommended the Uvita from Itch to stitch as a good, free boat neck pattern so I’m going to try to rescue the boxy one I hated. It just all felt wrong on me 😂
