    I've been watching tons of packing videos lately. I'm traveling to Maine in October (I like to plan way ahead since I need hardly any winter clothes where I live and want time to allow for backorders, etc. on my carefully chosen items) and am getting into capsule wardrobes and carry-on only travel. I researched the latest carry-on and personal item size limits since I was upgrading my luggage. Yours is the ONLY video out of the very many I have watched that addresses the size and weight! Also, I appreciate you showing the "look book" for the clothing items you packed. Thank you.

      Hi Carol, thanks. I am glad you appreciated size and weight - better to avoid trouble at check-in. You are spot on to organize everything in advance - it's the key to success, and part of the fun. Carry-on only works tremendously well with capsule wardrobes. I review my packing success after each trip to see how I can improve. Let me know how you go in Maine. Happy and safe travels 😀.

    Great detailed information and very smart clothing choices. I'd love to see a video like this about traveling with camping gear. Glad that Last Grownup in the Woods mentioned you! Looking forward to exploring your other videos! 😊

      Thanks. Travelling lightweight with camping gear is trickier since there are many survival items that give the airlines the heebie-jeebies. Enjoying your channel. Ciao

    why are we so accepting of the arbitrary 7kg bag limit. Dimensions I fully understand. Most overhead bins are rated for 40kg for 3 passengers. That is a healthy 13kg per person. I say make it 10kgs per person per bag and the world will still be okay. Most reasonably priced carry on hard shell luggage is about 2.5kg which can give one a healthy 7.5kg of room if the allowance where 10kg.
    Problem here is that is no platform for travellers to complain and see results.

    • @princesswearshikingboots4479
      @princesswearshikingboots4479  6 років тому +3

      Hi Henrie. I agree that settling on 10kg would be great. Knowing many people come back with slightly heavier bags from shopping, family parcels etc. then you are probably at 13kg - about the max many people can safely lift into the overhead lockers!! Some airlines e.g. Ryanair happily allow 10kg so maybe we vote with our feet (if there's a choice). I concur 100% about airline feedback - they usually don't want to know. But, hey, we are starting the conversation ...

    • @Robyn-r9s
      @Robyn-r9s 5 років тому +1

      Some airlines now do 10kg total for the cabin bag plus the personal item. Or if you only have one bag, then it's 10kg for that bag.

      @@Robyn-r9s Hi Robyn. You're right. Many airlines are more flexible now - I wouldn't push it with some of the real cheap budget airlines though. Ryanair's 10kg is great - allows room for purchases if you leave home around 7kg!!! Sorry for my slow response - just found your comment! Ciao.

    Every ounce matters. Until you sit next to someone 100 pounds over weight. Then you think, “what? I had to leave my hairbrush at home? Why?” 🤣

      Hi Wear More Dresses (excellent idea BTW). I've wondered about this myself. Am waiting (excuse pun) for airlines to weigh us all too - how awkward even if you are average weight🤣. Imagine how Ryanair might approach surcharges, lol!!!

    Norwegian has a policy that your carry on and personal item can only have a combined weight of 10kg/22lbs. Just an fyi. watch our for combined weight limits. :)

    • @princesswearshikingboots4479
      @princesswearshikingboots4479  6 років тому +2

      That's a generous limit 😀. Anybody carrying a heavy laptop/laptop bag would need to take this into consideration. Thanks for sharing. Happy and safe travels.

      Princess Wears Hiking Boots it is if it's only clothes, etc. :) I can easily live with very little as far as that goes. My problem is that I'm a photographer. My camera bag is 10 lbs. My carry on suitcase is about 5. 5 lbs on its own. So, I've ordered a nylon carry on that weighs about a half pound. That should help. That said, if you want to eat or pick your seat (the a la carte, pay for only what you want method), you'll end up paying $45 each way for each thing (so 90 bucks extra). But, for that same price increase you can just upgrade your seat type, and get both of those things plus a checked bag. I was also trying to avoid the checked bag fees on the second flight (easyjet). Alas, I think I'm just gonna have to spend the extra money. La Cote d'Azur is so worth it though. :D

    • @princesswearshikingboots4479
      @princesswearshikingboots4479  6 років тому +2

      If you're a photographer then your kit comes first, and checked luggage for the rest. It's not always possible to be carry on only, but when you can it's the only way to go. La Cote d'Azur sounds fab, enjoy😀. Happy & safe travels.

    Hi! loved the video and all the info. I will be traveling to Europe in September for 2 and 1/2 months out of a carry-on. Many people have told me that I need a quart sized clear plastic bag to carry my liquids (under 100 ml). But I see that you have some of your liquids in the Sea to Summit toiletry bag (and some in your personal item). How did that go for you (with security)?

    • @princesswearshikingboots4479
      @princesswearshikingboots4479  7 років тому +2

      Thanks. You’re correct that liquids must be carried in one (1) separate transparent/resealable bag. It mustn’t exceed 1litre (1 quart) & 20cm x 20cm (7.9” x 7.9”) & liquids must not exceed 100ml (3.4 oz).
      My mini Sea to Summit bag didn’t contain liquids and passed security. The green & blue mini containers had pills in & 3 other round containers were assorted mineral powder make-up. I'm pleased you are taking this seriously. If more people focused like you we'd move through security faster!
      We were recently in Frankfurt Airport where armed Police were called to scrutinize a couple’s hand luggage - they had packed random liquids throughout their bags. It was a very uncomfortable moment wondering if these passengers were ignorant or suspicious!
      Have a great trip. Happy and safe travels:)

      My family of 4 only travel with carry ons only to save time. I put the quart bag bag of liquids and all electronics for my family of 4 in one personal item so that when we get through security where there is no TSA precheck, they throw all the bags up while I pull the quart bag and electronics to place into bins. Saves us the hassle of opening the suitcase to find everything make getting pulled over for forgetting something.

    I admire your packing prowess, but that packable black purse looks far too flimsy. I would be worried about bag slashers. I prefer my Pacsafe day bags (I take one only), but I realize that adds weight. You make great suggestions for lightweight travel.

    • @princesswearshikingboots4479
      @princesswearshikingboots4479  6 років тому +3

      Hi Dianne. Thanks, it has taken much practice😀.Good point about the packable purse. I agree you need to be careful with this bag. I wear it with its tough web strap, as a cross-body to protect it's contents. So far, so good. I have the Pacsafe version that I've never used since it's not foolproof either - the mesh does not cover the entire bag. I like that you can secure it to fixed objects - that's an excellent feature at home, or abroad. We should keep in mind that if somebody wants our bag, or its contents, then they'll take/demand the bag. I only carry day cash, snacks and incidental bits & bobs (credit cards etc are stashed). It's as important to be aware and look like you're in charge so thieves will look elsewhere. I have done a review of Pacsafe's Venturesafe 45L Carry on and that's an excellent theft deterrent:). Happy & safe travels.

      Hi Shelby, it's the Michael Kors Hamilton Satchel. They're not available on the MK website, but you should be able to pick one up on ebay at a good price😀. There are newer models, including ones made in Safiano leather - tricky to place under the seat in front of you but rigid enough not to slump if not full. Good luck - let me know how you get on. Happy and safe travels.

    I have one question.I am travelling next month with air serbia.when it says that i can take with me only hand luggage it means that i can take a cabin bag too or just the hand luggage?

    • @princesswearshikingboots4479
      @princesswearshikingboots4479  7 років тому +1

      Hi, apologies for late reply. I checked airserbia.com and I believe you can take 1 x 8kg bag of 40 × 20 × 55cm (length x width x height), plus a smaller personal item. This link should help www.airserbia.com/en-AU/hand-baggage. If in doubt always call your airline for reassurance. Ciao, happy & safe travels:)

    After all the items packed inside, the trolley weighs less than 7kg?

    • @princesswearshikingboots4479

      Hi Umang - yes, the items and trolley weigh 6.4kg (see at 0:32 minutes). It takes practice to do this and I weigh everything as I go. Using my pacsafe pack I carry only 5.8kg (including the pack!!) - here's a link you may enjoy ua-cam.com/video/ilOgFO6wnVo/v-deo.html. A backpack is great touring Asia where it's easier to be hands-free. Happy and safe travels. Ciao.

      Hi, if you're going to Seaside Heights you'll def need more beach clothing. I'd swap out pants/jeans(?) for shorts and some great tee shirts. Maybe sub the heels for something flatter. Consider buying some great smelling sunscreen when you arrive and pass it on when you leave? Maybe leave room to buy tee shirts as holiday momentos:) I packed what you see in the video and was really glad of the hat! Ciao, happy and safe travels.

  • @tijay8507
    @tijay8507 5 років тому

    i guess the only reason you used that heavy case and took a tiny amount of items is that they gave you the case free as it is a poor choice for such a limited weight allowance!!

    • @princesswearshikingboots4479
      @princesswearshikingboots4479  5 років тому +1

      Hi Ti Jay. I bought the case with my own money and really love it. It’s sturdy, rolls well & is tough enough to check-in. I carry what I need & have great wardrobe combos (featured at end of this video).
      It’s horses-for-courses.
      If I need to take more I take my light-weight Gossamer Gear Gorilla 40 backpack (954g fully configured) - it consumes a mere 12% of my 7kg allowance. ua-cam.com/video/7hdZayNJU-M/v-deo.html
      Travelling to Asia I take my Pacsafe Venturesafe EXP45 Anti-theft 45L convertible backpack - it’s an in between option. It allows me to move unencumbered on trains and tuk tuks etc. making me look more in charge and less attractive to thieves, lol!!
      ua-cam.com/video/nTbl3EDs9yI/v-deo.html
      You could also consider the Lowe Alpine AT Lightflite Carry-On 40 Litre convertible backpack that weighs a modest 0.76g. It’s not a technical backpack like the Gossamer Gear Gorilla 40 so it’s less comfortable to lug around fully loaded. It’s lack of structure causes your gear to sag to the bottom (even with packing cubes!!).
      Please consider that lighter carry-ons may not survive being checked in and some airlines require you to check-in your carry-on.
      Have you found a happy balance between weight, security and structure that suits you travelling style that you'd like to share?
      Happy & safe travels.
