Thank you Michael for posting this. I grew up in the 80's going on Ocotillo Wells and Glamis runs every summer, but for some reason NOBODY ever filmed any of it. Only a few snap shots from a camera to remember those days. Watching your video really brought to life how carefree and relaxed going to Glamis was back then. 3-wheelers ruled the dunes. My first bike was a Honda 110, then I graduated to a Honda 185s bored to 200cc. watching the kids playing together and rolling down a hill brought back so many memories. My sister, cousins and I dug huge pits in the ground at our Glamis camp, then covered them with scrap wood meant for the fires at night then covered them with sand and made underground bases. We used snow disks and rope to pull ourselves behind the ATCs. Such good times. Im all grown up with my own family and kids now, whom I just started taking to the desert. I still have all our Honda ATCs from the 80's and we take them out now with the next generation of kids. A 350x, two 200x, two 185s' and the old 110. It isn't quite the same as when I was a kid and the grown-ups took care of all the hard work and worry, but it is cool to see my own kids enjoy it like I once did.
Anyways, thank you so much for posting this. I am so glad someone has footage of this for the rest of us who didn't film our runs to enjoy and get a great dose of the good old days.

I'm about the same age 16 1985 we also went to Ocotillo Wells and Glamis I remember Ocotillo Wells had one sand hill we would camp on edge of a dry lake bed about all I remember. Night riding was the best at Ocotillo Wells was fun trails were sandy and soft which made riding on them nice. You ever go to Baker, CA. I don't even know if its open anymore I remember got off the highway 15 in Baker at a Chevron gas station. There was a dirt road that lead from behind the gas station into the desert go about 20 miles camp there. There was one sand bowl and I remember across a valley see train trains at night see the train light. We would ride to the tracks there were piles of old railroad ties strap one to each bike and carry it back burned in our camp fires. The trails had lot of tall brush could get lost easy once buddy broke down I went back got lost ran out of gas. Had to walk back to camp and by then it was dark they walked back really pissed but what could I do.

Cool video. Reminds of me back in the 80's on my KX 80 ripping it up in the gravel pit behind my house. I miss those days. I still ride 2 stroke mx bikes even though I'm pushing 50 but the whole American experience today is just too much. The 80's will always be my fondest years. They were simpler times and we had just enough technology to be happy like Atari, answering machines for out land lines, and we all played outside and weren't a bunch of whining sissies.

In 1985 I bought a new 350X in El Cajon. I loaded it in my truck and was driving it back to Sierra Vista AZ where I would then ride it when I came home on leave. I drove down the I-8 on a Thursday and stopped at the dunes. There was no one there. No idiot park ranger telling me I am disturbing the sand, no sand rails doing 100mph, no bikes no nothing. I rode for 3 hours up and down dunes and then went swimming in the Canal. I loaded up my 350 and started heading back home, I was soaking wet, had sand everywhere, a bike in the back and a smile from ear to ear on my face. Did not see one other living soul for the entire 3 hours.

Sure brings back memories used to drive there with my buddies had dirt bikes and 3 wheelers I had an 87 KX500 and had a Honda 250r 3 wheeler. Load up in my old 72 Pickup truck that truck had zero electronics in it had 2 gas tanks run on one tank till the engine quit then get to 1/4 tank fill up again. 17 years old driving all the way from LA to Glamis after school we get there about 2am find a spot. Watching those videos look so low quality compared to my memories being there. I remember one year we brought a Christmas tree burned it up went up in about 20 seconds. Another year my buddy GF broke up with him right before we left all he did was mope around keep asking if we cold go home. What a drag he was finely I got sick of him we left only after one day went home. Never saw that guy again couldn't believe guy get so whipped over a GF at 17.
