I have a old husqvarna 340 that my grandfather had, it has simular problems like this one. Have cleaned the carburettor several times and adjusted it as well into factory spec but the saw won't run properly at all, I have had in mind to buy a carbkit for it the direframe may be 30+ years old....

The 440 is the saw from hell due to the EPA. The fuel metering system is really sensitive. If the diaphragm stiffens just a little it wont run right, snd ethanol stiffens then up. I have to replace my diaphragm every year.
A muffler mod wakes it up, makes it run like a 45cc saw.

I own one of these 440E's and have the same issue. New diaphragm is on order.
Curious about your muffler mod. How'd you do it?

I have a 440 I’ve had for a few years but just started having issues with it dying. It’ll start fine and idle, but when I give it gas, it dies like the kill switch is pushed. Sometimes it’ll run for about a minute at full throttle but still dies.
I’ve replaced the spark plug, air filter, new carburetor, new primer bulb and fuel lines. Same issues… any ideas?

To all you husqvana chainsaw fans do not use China made spark plugs these saws will not run rite on them get a good name brand spark plug like champion copper core or nkg or Bosch will run much better 8:41

That’s a very popular kit and you should keep about 4/6 of them
The oem carbs are better than the Chinese replacement 😢😊😊😊

100% my experience with aftermarket amazon carbs has been terrible. Two carbs that were supposed to fit two specific chainsaws, one had relocated the fuel line to the other side and it interfered with the throttle linkage, the other looked so similar to the original that I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get the idle speed down even with the idle screw backed all the way out. Had me thinking I had an air leak issue. Turns out it was ever so slightly different than the OEM carb and the throttle lever was getting slightly held open as it rested against the carb-cylinder isolator. Because of my experience, I avoid cheap amazon/ebay china special carbs at all costs. I'll spend hours trying to get the OEM carb working again before I even consider buying a $10 amazon carb.

Choke, 1 click down to fast idle for a few to warm up and then hit throttle to take it off fast idle is proper start procedure from cold.

There's only one choke setting on these.

I agree it only has 1 choke setting and never said it had more than 1. My old 2014 440 has the same 3-position switch as all my 500 series saws except the top handles. Like I posted already, up for choke till it pops, 1 click down puts it in fast idle where it will start and then a pull on the throttle trigger takes it off fast idle when ready and puts it into the run mode. All the way down is kill. Ran it yesterday for a bit and that is the start up procedure and after running it for over 10 years I am very familiar with it. Watch any number of YT videos on the 440 and you will see.

@@1966poker Gotcha. Misunderstood the "fast idle" part, I assumed it meant the half-choke position.
I have an old 257 and new 545 Mark II. Seen the various choke settings on Stihl and Poulan saws. How are the new 440's compared to the older 440's? I've read mixed reviews about them being great and not so great.
      Thanks.
