This is the big problem I had with the miniseries at this point. Hazel is no leader, he ist just acting on impulse and without much logic unlike the Hazel in the novel and movie. The second problem is, there is no unity between the WD rabbits. Bigwig and Hazel are constantly arguing, rabbits like Holly act on their own (without this being adressed) and the worst is Kehaar as totally unreliable. I guess the thing with Kehaar comes from the movie where he acts like a comic relief, but he is still very reliable there. Only the part with Orchis and Hyzenthly is a bit more interesting. I still don't understand why this series also has the following the trend, that a female character must be broken and abused by a male to get our sympathy, unfortunately also a trend in modern movies. The old Hyzenthlay were not broken, just careful and reserved. And good that you spoke about the landscape. I mostely have blended that out, because in no way this series will give much attention to the geography of the place. But such open spaces are very unusual for Berkshire and New Hampshire, you have a hedgerow and wood very often which interupts this open landscape. Such a place like Efrafa in this series doesn't exist at all in this region. The real Efrafa is just a fairy-tale-like place (even more beautiful than Watership Down), but ofc that wouldn't fit an evil, totalitarian warren so in every adaptation it had to be at a dreary place. But creating an image that resembles Auschwitz is a step too far imo.
I made my comments whilst listening to your podcast-before you made them at the end. It seem that we agree that this version is far worse than anything before it (except perhaps the 1999 tv show in my opinion at least). I hate the way they make changes for absolutely no reason!
I don't like this. Instead of our heroes being a cohesive, clever group, they all just seem to bumble into things with most not even liking each other much (or being very dull and argumentative). If this is "the new storytelling" it is pathetic. It shows how divisive people are becoming in real life that they need heroes who act like this! The Ephrafans seem more like Imperials from Star Wars to me here. With Otkins actually trying to tempt Hynsenflay to the dark side!
9:40 You said the lineup is "a little too human perhaps" HA! I was expecting them to play the Imperial march at any moment with Woundwort saying to Campion "Rise, my friend!"

@SJHFoto Just imagine what Woundwort would do with a Star Destroyer...
