I went to school with and was in choir with Terin. She was a good person. She was never snobbish and was kind to everyone. Even after she came back with her medal!
Courtney McCool was so INCREDIBLE! Amazing precision. 💕💕
I disagree. Beautiful form but the elements were mostly short of rotation. She was overscored and poorly credited. It caught up to her at the Olympics where the judges murdered her SV’s.
It seems like once the 2006-2008 quad hit, it was so rare to see anyone stick a dismount, but this quad was full of iconic sticks up to and including Athens
I feel as though the judges had it out for Tasha here anyone else performing her vaults would have scored at 9.275 or 9.3 and same on beam.
Terin Humphrey was so underrated...one of my favorites and best dancer on this team imo
She was pretty cookie cutter and had constant bent knees. Her dancing was bland and not exciting.
@@willsbob123 I actually loved her dancing on floor. It went well with her music
Can’t believe I’m watching this in Feb. 2020. But I’m loving it!
September 2020 here.
January 2021 here !!
What does that mean? Did you think you would be dead? Or blind? Or did you think the video was destroyed?
@@tillmandustin1482 - Get a grip, Tilly, I meant exactly what I said. 😒
This trio’s commentary really makes my skin crawl.
Mohini with that Zmeskal-esque arm flair on her bars dismount at 3:48 BADASS WOMAN!
everyone is always so quick to be critical of or dismiss carly’s gold medal but i, still to this day, greatly enjoy her gymnastics.
But she's not in nastia league and she definitely is no where near Gabby and simone league
Dawn Baswell gymnastics evolves. it’s like comparing apples to oranges. also people have different preferences in gymnasts. i never really got the gabby hype and i always preferred shawn over nastia. to each their own.
@@thebrlocke Carly's beam was always phenomenal (this Trials competition not withstanding) and she was a good tumbler. To this day no one can land that beam dismount like she did.
I love Carlys Gymnastics much more than Svetlana.
@@2134knees I don't care for Carly's gymnastics except maybe on beam, but she was definitely better than Khorkina that day, and deserved the win. I just wished that Khorkina wasn't so shaky on beam or else she would've won
It really pissed me off when they called what happened with our 2000 team “the embarrassment in Sydney.” How easily Bela and Marta forget they starved the living shit out of those girls at Sydney. Several of them said they cried themselves to sleep because they were so hungry. So of course at Sydney they were weak and famished. Is it any wonder they didn’t do well?
Weren't they more or less referring to the vault being too low and some of the gymnasts almost injuring themselves as a result?
@@ohhhhmydarling 😝
Plus with that vault issue, it ruined a lot of girls chance like ray and korkhina. Letting them redo the vault wouldn't have helped either since most of the girls were too exhausted and it wouldn't have helped their score. They should have just stopped things the moment they realized the vaults were off smh.
The vault issue happened during the all around finals not during the team competitions
@@trodairebeag it was incorrect the entire time
She has to fly thru the air to Athens and hope she sticks it... Oh Al 😭 His commentary sometimes is something else!
Gosh just looking back still has me wonder what these gymnasts had to go through and the abuse they had to endure.
Lol at the end about Károlyi ranch ‘the mystery what’s going on behind closed doors’ ... hmm
Carly Janiga was amazing! Mohini was awesome too. So unfortunate about Hollie Vise back injury, she was a great gymnast
Such much depth to this group of athletes, so many great stories. Disappointing that they did not win the team Gold in Athens, but the silver was still a result in the right direction for the federation. The best part was athletes like Hatch and Bhardwaj getting to compete in the Olympic Games at ages that few people would have thought possible just a few years before.
The USA could have had a second team. And they might have done better. If. Tasha, Liz, Tabitha, Tia and couple others were healthy. That would have been amazing.
@dustintillman3101 yeah i really wanted Tasha on that team. And Chellsie Memmel could have made a big difference if she was healthy also.
Pamela Anderson! How random
Very! Guess she was cheering on Mohini. Besides they're barely commentating so why not fetch for celebs in the audience? 🤣
She greatly supported Mohini in a financial way to,these Olympics.
Pamela was her financial backer it was said as soon as mohini showed up
I love watching the 2004 and the other year
again , I'm watching this in 2021
OMG I loved Mohini
Thank you so much for uploading !!
I love Pam. What a sweet soul
And Mo! What an inspiration
I always appreciated how she didn't seem super happy that they put her in the spotlight over Mohini. I remember thinking at the time that it was strange to see an actress appear so uncomfortable with the attention she was getting. I sort of think she ACTUALLY thought she would show up and get to watch unnoticed. Lol!
Loved Mohini
This quad was so so deep, I'd forgotten about all the talent: Hollie Vise, Liz Tricase, Allyse Ishino, Tabitha Yim...! What's funny is, the talent was certainly there for them to pick a gold medal winning team, but they apparently didn't get the right combo.
The other weird thing in retrospect is how touchy literally every single coach is. Like they all grab their gymnast in a vice grip/headlock and kiss them. Not implying they were specifically doing anything wrong, it's just culturally strange in a post-Nassar and post-Me Too era that everyone felt the need to be so aggressively physical with these teen girls. Like would a high-five or a pat on the back not suffice?
BCONTRAT I’ve always wondered about that. I’m a hugger myself, but not like those super close intense hugs with my coaches...the athletes don’t look super enthusiastic about the hugs either...
Even before the Nassar stuff, I always cringed with all of the touching and hugging. The men always high five. Why are the women's bodies always served up for consumption.
Or else an elbow bump or something. I'm a HUGE hugger. In July 2020 2if my friends and I created a new elbow bump/fist bump handshake thing.
Marta said that had Tabitha not gotten injured after trials, she would’ve been named to the team
@@mht4908 I wonder who got the spot that would have gone to her. Terin Humphrey maybe?
Please upload day 1 to thank you?!!
I was really surprised that Liz Tricase wasn't picked for Athens. Even though she didn't place in the top 8 here, she was great on vault and floor, beam as well, in contrast to Annia Hatch who can only be used on vault. Liz would've been able to fill in any voids that the US team had, her bars were also much better than Carly's
How did Liz do at camp? This doesnt count.
@@DL-sl3nt She didn’t do great. Liz was inconsistent and Annia wasn’t over the course of the trials process. They pretty well knew she’d medal on vault in Athebs
@@DL-sl3nt liz fell on her DTY day 2 of the selection camp
“The Bhardwatch is officially on” 😂
Carly Patterson is so amazing.
I Love Tabitha Yim floor routine wow
It’s a shame she got injured two days after this competition. She performed phenomenally here and she would have probably made the team
This was Silvia Mitova’s floor music wasn’t it? That’s a hard act to follow!
Can you please upload day 1 to?
That was good fluff!!!
Were proper handstands not a thing in these Trials? Good lord.
No...they really weren't. Look back at the year and not just USA but all countries. Huge reason why today we rarely see "hop" pirouettes or more than 1. Even khorkina never finished her last .5 in a handstand.
Tabatha was an exception.
@@jojox9791 yeah, I noticed that across the board going back and watching previous quads. I love hop priouettes but if you can't finish in a handstand, it's not worth the deductions.
I'm sort of annoyed at how central the pirouette to handstand has become to bars scoring. There's nothing inherently superior about finishing bars in a handstand, I mean I think someone like Khorkina doing a 1.5 pirouette with a nice swing and flow looks perfectly aesthetic even though she basically finishes horizontally... that said, I think emphasizing a kip cast handstand is fair enough, but it basically just wasn't a concern at the time. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Kupets and Patterson had appalling choreography IMO, well Kupets did, all Carly was doing was bizarre poses with her arms......jesus christ lol
Agreed lol. It was strange and kinda ugly.
I love Carly and she was extremely talented and consistent up until trials on beam, but I feel like they underscored her WAY too often sometimes. Like some gymnasts had better bar sets but didn't get scored as high as she did and if anyone else fell on beam, they would NOT have a score in the 9s(I know she had the Patterson dismount which is STILL difficult even now, but what was it rated during this time to give her this high of a score? I think it's a G now)
Kind of true I like the weirdness in Kupets like it’s bizarre you know you’re just like so no one else does it it’s rare, so I kinda enjoy hers but the beam and the floor is kind of the same you know and I agree with you about Carly it’s just very simple choreography but you know the problem is that they they don’t do any like back walk, overs or cartwheels or tins or headstands or handstands. It’s all these, jumping on the floor and jumps and all these things that the girls that growing up they can’t do so I’m really afraid for gymnastics becauseI’m same with the world because they’re just taking everything out of gymnastics with the seven-year-old girl. Does you know or 10-year-old girl or seventh grade girl?
The only embarrassment at any gymnastics event is Marta and Bela.
Sam Sheehan's look on the Floor Exercise reminds me of Simona Amanar.
Noooo it cuts off right at the announcement 😭😭😭
The women's selection camp is a different video.
The judges' scoring seemed just arbitrary and all over the place. I started ignoring the numbers after a little while on Day 1.
It's called favoritism.
Mohini walked with a banging floor mount so Aly Raisman could run
This makes me sick.. those girls being exposed to Larry Nasser...
Nunovurbznzsodontask I saw Tasha’ Schwikert’s senate affair address and she, and her sister Jordan, were victims too. It’s sad, man. At least USA gymnastics has gotten better since then on taken care of the girls. I don’t have kids, but I want some one day. I have a sister so I am protective who she hangs with. If I had daughter, I would protect her at all costs. At least Nassar has a life sentence without parole.
Nunovurbznzsodontask Also I had a crush on the Schwikert sisters too. I love women’s gymnastics😄😍😘🤙🏾💍 #WifeGoals
Courtney McCool only benefited because her form was beautiful but it doesn’t mean the elements was well executed
why in the hell wasnt taitha yim chosen. drives me nuts. she was sooooo Good
Agreed she was amazing, but she got injured right before the selection camp, so she couldn't attend.
I was trying to figure out the same thing
Lo
😊
I thought Nastia Liukin was on the team to decide who went to Athens. Did they remove her because of the obvious conflicts of interest?
She was 12 years old-
@@211jump Oh, my bad. I was thinking this was a different year lol.
Actually she was 15. :)
I found it so annoying for the last 2 decades of NBC commentary that al trautwig asserted himself as the line judge. Thank goodness they got rid of him and Elfie. THey were so toxic and now just get rid of Tim
Im sure you would be great. Congrats on your gold medal. When was that???
Why don’t they like Courtney McCool? I think she’s perfect gymnast and they always underscore her
The commentary is absolutely sickly. Seriously it’s so overly dramatised and so cringe I can’t even.
You have to be kidding me where’s the end
Jesus the floor choreography in some of these routines (coughcough Courtney Kupets and Carly Patterson) is just cringe all around
I can't even watch floors after 2008 that weird arm thing Gabby did killed me,
Tabitha should’ve been on the team
Just because you have straight legs and pointed toes doesn’t mean your skills are well executed. Courtney McCools leaps and jumps were so short!
Liz tricase should have made the team over Annia hatch
she was one of my all-time favorites! I'm not sure she had a strong second vault
Annia won a medal on vault so it was a better choice.
Liz Tricase is on my favorites too! I wish she made the Olympic team that year. She killed it at Sanford though. She’s pretty cute. I’ve always had a crush on her 😊❤️😍💍 #WifeGoals
They needed Annia for vault. She carried the team for vault. No one else was as good at vault.
955pokerface Liz was equally as good on vault from a team perspective.
I don’t know if it was the angle of the camera or
what but Hollie’s ring leap and sheep jump looked awful
Hollie's UB should've been in the 9.7 range in comparison to Tasha and Tabitha's scores. Liz Tricase's UB should've been 9.5 at least.
Agree!! Tasha is ALWAYS OVERSCORED
@@beambreaker I dont agree. I think her score was fine. Hollie was underscored.
@@matthewhines9787 really??! I thought that was universal.. I always felt Tasha was very over scored. I thought you were saying that Holly's bars were better than Tashas. Because holly got a 9.5 if I remember and tasha wasn't far off from that. I guess I'm confused on what your trying to say. Sorry 😐
@@beambreakerLOL. I _was/am_ saying Hollie's bars were better than Tasha's. My point is that Tasha's bars score is pretty accurate, _but_ Hollie's should be significantly higher than Tasha's.
@@matthewhines9787 oh I get it now lol
The floor music in this competition is across the board terrible!
Tasha’s floor music I didn’t like because it felt so junior-ish…I woulda wanted something a little more mature
IMO, if you replace McCool with Hollie Vise, that team in Athens would have been in much better shape (never liked McCool's gymnastics) and they probably would have done much better there.
Maybe but McCool got her slot by the top two getting spots on the team, so glad they changed that after to the winner gets a spot but now for Tokyo they are back to the top two and only 4 slots.
You are right. Perfection sucks. Lol
Hollie was injured :(
What a beautiful piked full in @ 1:15:50
you missed the commercials so should you please reupload the commercials found between portions of that broadcast? please respond and reply now.
no.
This exchange is hilarious
@@211jump 😂😂
Carly was completely overrated. She moved like she had cardboard in her joints. Tasha looked constantly pissed off. McCool was absolutely gorgeous to watch but sadly bombed in qualifications at the Olympics. Kupet’s was always solid and impressive, most hated her floor choreography, but I loved it. I was always routine for Vise, she was gorgeous to watch but sadly she just wasn’t bringing those big numbers on only 2 events. I always found Humphrey so boring to watch, her legs appeared constantly bent. Bhardwarj was underscored in Athens and Hatch was great on vault and that was it. A pretty average US team in 2004, not exactly gold medal standard and that’s why they didn’t win, along with making stupid mistakes.
USA Gym was so fixated on bringing strong vault specialists that they let beam and floor fall by the wayside. One of Hatch or Bhardwaj would've been enough for the team to bring in a good vault total (Hatch/Bhardwaj, Patterson, and Humphrey could've vaulted in team finals). Mohini's start values were too low to be the backup AAer she became. USA needed another very strong AAer with high start values for beam and floor and they just didn't bring one. It's just wild considering all the talent they left home.
I would not let my daughter or son be around steve ribecki!! Lol JUST NO!
