    If it was "easy" and intuitive, we would not need this video.
    Everything is easy only once you know.
    Many thanks

      @@namenaim1560 Okay, I take it back! As you say, once you know, it's both easy and simple.

    Well explained; especially fine slowly for old men like me😉 I will try it in my next project. Addition: I experimented a few hours with compression-pumping (Alan Walker - Faded). Sounds very bad on my MODX. The worst thing is the "snapping" sound it makes. The trials with different parameters does also not function well. Everything is much worse than in this video; perhaps because of my saw-sound. Can't imagine to ever use it. Costs much nerves. It's better and easier with Envelope Follower.

    You make my MODX much easier to understand. Thanks for this one, I was struggling a little to get this using only the manual.

    Always wondered how this was done on house tracks. Away to try it myself. Thanks man 😁

    The thing with these synths is it can drag you into working out what's going on more than actually playing music.

    Thanks for these, Dom! Been trying to figure out my Montage for months now, and I finally have some time to spend with it over the next couple of weeks. I'm sure I'll think of something else I need help with :-)

    Thank you sooo much Dom. You have been soo informative. I have been trying to figure out this. I just one question isn't side chaining and envelope follower the same thing? Coz this video seems same as one of your previous video. And please can you make a video about explaing exactly the difference between Envelope follower, motion sequencer,.

  • @isbjorn64
    @isbjorn64 5 років тому +1

    Very informative, thanks you! But what if a have a drum track with multiple drum sounds, or kicks, and I want only the sidechain from a specific kick only, not from the whole drum track? Is this possible?

  • @harryolive1853
    @harryolive1853 2 роки тому

    Hi Dom, is there any way to side chain with a minus delay? Means the
    bass/pad/etc starts to duck prior the kick For sure it possible to make a
    copy of the bass drum and give it a -delay. But that's not efficient
    on changing notes. Perhaps something for the 1 minute
    video?!

  • @walterliedgens4796

    Can you also set that the music does not follow the kick drum, but another instrument of the drum set?

    Thanks! It was really helpful, but I still have one question. How do you make a sidechain only for one part? I tried to do it but I couldn’t.

  • @lwpweb
    @lwpweb 2 роки тому

    As i understand the sidechain is triggerd with the Mastereffect. So all parts o the performance are member of this sidechaining. How could i exclude some parts of the multipartperformance from being sidechained?

    Amazing video brother love your work on the keyboards! Please can you advice on the output of the keyboard I mean do you use balanced cable or stereo cable to get that output? Thanks a lot buddy!

    • @DomSigalas
      @DomSigalas  7 років тому

      Hi Mauwin! You can use both unbalanced or balanced cables. I always use balanced cables (TRS) so that I get the clearest and loudest signal possible. You also avoid any noise or interference with balanced cables as they cancel the noise out. Montage has balanced outputs (Pure Analogue Circuit) so I would always use balanced if you have an audio interface that has balanced inputs. :)

      Thanks buddy already bought the cables

    Can you sidechain from a live instrument? I'msaving up for a Montage and may want to sidechain from my drummer or bassist. Would that work?

    • @DomSigalas
      @DomSigalas  7 років тому +4

      Hey Gabriel, absolutely you can sidechain from any live source!
      At 4:26 you can see exactly how it works ;) Not only you can sidechain from a drummer or bassist but you can control how much sidechain you apply to your signal by turning the gain knob on your A/D input ;)

    Hey Don, Is it possible to edit the preset rhythm patterns. Sometimes I just want to use the kick and hi hat or the kick only, from the preset rhythm track.

    • @RayyMusik
      @RayyMusik 5 років тому

      Terry Ro I‘m quite new to the MODX, but I think you can isolate specific drum instruments by adjusting the key range. Turn the pattern off and locate your desired instrument by manual drumming, and then limit the key range accordingly.

    Nice, so what cable do I need if I am sidechaining a live drummer?

    • @DomSigalas
      @DomSigalas  6 років тому

      Hey Oteko, you just need a normal jack to jack cable from your mixer . Then you can setup the level using your Gain knob. Just don't go too hot into the Montage or the sidechain won't work as it should :)

  • @mississippi_721
    @mississippi_721 7 років тому

    Hi Dom how's you doing buddy? I have been doing some songs where I have to use layer or splits for more than 8 parts! I wanted to know that I have seen in the mixer there are 16 parts so I tried to add a tone on 9th part but 1-8 part doesn't play! So for what are 9-16 section is used?

    • @DomSigalas
      @DomSigalas  7 років тому

      Mauwin Fernandes you can use them for sequencing in a DAW like Cubase. On Montage you can play up to 8 sounds simultaneously, if you tried more the polyphony would be exhausted ;)

    Really nice video. How do you connect the Montage directly into your video?

    • @DomSigalas
      @DomSigalas  7 років тому

      Hey thanks! I connect it straight to my Steinberg UR44 audio interface :)

    • @londonbody1826
      @londonbody1826 7 років тому

      Sorry I'm very new. You connect a stereo output from the Montage into the AI and then is it a USB out from the AI into Logic? Thanks.

    • @DomSigalas
      @DomSigalas  7 років тому

      I take the two outputs from the Montage, then connect it to the UR44 audio interface and record everything into Cubase, it would be the same procedure with Logic :)

  • @mississippi_721
    @mississippi_721 7 років тому

    Hello Dom! How to sidechain live kick drum with the montage? Do I have to buy a microphone to connect on kick drum? or can you get that signal through the mixer where the drum kick channel is controlled?

    • @mississippi_721
      @mississippi_721 7 років тому

      One more question how to sync the arpeggios live with the drums? Thanks

    • @DomSigalas
      @DomSigalas  7 років тому

      Hi Mauwin,
      There are quite a few ways. The easiest would be to get a feed from the kick drum from the mixer (through an auxiliary send for example) and drive it through the Montage A/D Input :)

    For decades broadcast engineers worked to eliminate this pumping effect in broadcast limiters. Now its suddenly desired sound.

    • @lumer2b
      @lumer2b 2 роки тому

      Not the same context at all, this can sound nice in dance music, but not at all when hearing the news.

    • @basspig
      @basspig 2 роки тому

      @@lumer2b Most of the broadcast chains I worked on were on music format stations. It sounds terrible with music. Yet, I am encountering it in recordings now. Just awful.
      I'm encountering this and severe clipping on pop music recordings, and zero attack, zero decay compression so fast it generates dissonant harmonics, on symphonic music. It's extremely disappointing.

    Hey, i have montage aswell i was wondering how can i play breaks of drum ?
    I was making a cover with cubase of Birdland and i wanted to put a fast break of drum but idk how to do it can you explain me ?
    Ty :)

    • @DomSigalas
      @DomSigalas  7 років тому

      Hi, Do you want to play the breaks in realtime? Or using an Arpeggio? If you don't want to play them then you can assign an arpeggio and just hit the Arpeggio on button :) All drum sounds in the montage come with pre-configured arpeggios so if you turn the Arp on then you can press the scene buttons to change the patterns ;)

    • @FreudianMaster

      I want to play it in real time like the yamaha clavinova

    • @DomSigalas

      What I do is I select a drum kit from the Drums Category and just start playing :) Also if you want you can sequence a beat in Cubase
