At first, I thought the mysterious person in the Prologue was Belial too, but then I thought... they’re using an adamas blade, and when demons or warlocks use it, it has a weird glow, or reaction, about it, and it wasn’t mentioned here... of course, it might simply be because Cassie didn’t want to give too much away here, but what if this were to be a Shadowhunter? Later in the chapter, Jesse seems to be a bit more “corporeal” than he was at the end of Chog, so maybe it’s him in some weird possessed-by-Belial state? I don’t know...
As for the rest, why does everyone seem to dislike my boy James? 😂 I understand that he is a lot calmer and more balanced than your typical YA male lead, but come on! We finally got an emotionally healthy human being as a protagonist, what’s not to love? 😂
The Claribella scene was incredibly awkward and uncomfortable, I agree... but, shall we talk about the following scene, where Matthew essentially implies he doesn’t care about Cordelia’s ruined reputation if James were to call off the wedding, as long as he gets to have his chance with her?! I understand he was under a lot of stress and probably not thinking straight, but I found that really disturbing.
To close this incredibly long post, was anybody else surprised by the ease with which Grace threw around the word necromancy in front of a person she doesn’t really trust, especially considering that Tatiana has already been incriminated for possession of necromantic books and Lucie’s family is in a much more powerful position within the Clave than she is? She could have her arrested, potentially! I found that openness really weird...
Haha you need to get back on that Chain of Gold analysis ASAP! REFRESH YOUR MEMORY READY FOR MARCH! I'm assuming that Belial has possessed a shadowhunter body that's why he is able to use the adamas blade? But I like your theory as well! I'm hoping that Jesse's more corporeal state is because Lucie and Grace are getting somewhere with his resurrection... but I don't want to put too much hope in that! I'M SORRY I DONT KNOW WHY I DON'T LIKE JAMES THAT MUCH HAHA, you're right he is a more emotionally healthy human than characters like Julian, and his own actual father, but I think the problem is that all the characters in TLH are incredibly complex so it's harder to choose between them, and right now Jesse is my leading YA male! Yes! Matthew's flippancy with Cordelia's rep was very weird? Our poor child, his emotional state is just not there I AM SO SCARED FOR HIM. Also agree with you about Grace, but tbh by this point I don't think she has any more fucks to give haha. Perhaps she's just given up with being subtle and is doing whatever she wants because she can, especially when she knows she can always use James as a scapegoat!
@@MyYAFictionAddiction thanks for the reply! Regarding Belial, I thought about Jesse mostly because I suspect (without any real basis) that he might be Belial’s anchor in the human world? My crackpot theory is that Tatiana, realizing that she wasn’t going to be able to keep saying no to Jesse regarding his desire to be a Shadowhunter, and thinking he was going to die soon anyway due to his weak constitution, decided to solve the problem at the root, and offered Belial to help him destroy the Shadowhunters and get his body back by allowing him to use Jesse as an anchor - which could be what really killed him when he got his first rune -, as long as her boy was going to be revived in exchange for her help. Crackpot, I know 😂 also, Jesse might not have those protections placed on a Shadowhunter at birth, given his mother’s hatred for the institution, so perhaps that’s what’s allowing Belial to possess him? Otherwise, the only options would be James and Lucie, since Belial said that if he tried to possess someone not of his blood, they would crumble in a short amount of time. Mmh...
Also, according to those pictures of the princes of Hell Cassie posted some time ago, the Black Volume of the Dead contains not only instruction on how to revive the dead, but also an invocation to Belial... mmh..

I really like James’ character. How he, at least outside, portrays himself as calm, balanced and calculated. It somehow seems so natural and he reminds me of Will but at the same time he seems so different... i just love it

I love Lucy and Jesse together. I also love Cordelia and James together. But I can’t help wanting more scenes with Matthew and Cordelia or Lucy (even though this one seems like a dead end, I was so heartbroken when I read that she doesn’t feel anything for him). I somehow ship Matthew with both, but I wish he could get some love back also. So I’m really excited about him being in a love triangle, even though Cordelia is in love with James, I wish she felt something for Matthew too. I know we already had our triangle with reciprocated love in Tessa-Will-Jem, but I didn’t really that one.
Right now I just ship Matthew with happiness because I honestly don’t think that neither Lucie nor Cordelia will return their feelings to the extent that they love Jesse and James, respectably. I feel like he needs an entirely NEW love interest!

Yes for sure! It’s the Blackthorn family locket... arguably one of the best TSC heirlooms, after Cortana of course!

I’m more and more curious about the faerie that accosted Cordelia at the Hell ruel! I actually wonder if maybe Beliel is trying to get the sword away from Cordelia by using the fae.
I also loved the tidbit about Anna and Lilly. And reading ghosts of the shadow market I loved how in the land I lost, jace shoes lily a picture of Emma holding Cortana, and lily reminisces about Cordelia!
Yes that fairy was VERY suspicious I’d be intrigued to find out more!! And also I love when Lily speaks about TLH gang so fondly, I hope she features more in COI!
God, this killed me! I was very frustrated that now I have to wait for the rest but was also glad to have read it because I needed me some TLH characters! I loved it all so much!
And just that part at the end of chapter one where Lucie takes a random vampire up for dancing and is all like, “You tell me everything about vampirism,” that was just gold! I already love Lucie so much in this book. And then that whole adorable scene with James and Matthew after Jamie came back from the Shadow world just gagahahfsjsbdb!!! It was so sweet and wholesome!! And don’t even get me started on how much I adore Lucie and Jesse!!!!!! They are seriously my favorite ship in this whole book series (well, other then Matthew and sobriety 😉)
And to be honest with, I actually think that Matthew was already depressed to begin with. In Cast Long Shadows, even before what he does, he refers to himself as “a waste of space in a waistcoat” which kind of shows that to begin with he wasn’t at the best place. He thought he was the least intelligent in his family (which is obviously a lie because he’s related to CHARLES BUFORD FAIRCHILD, no one is more of an idiot then CHARLES BUFORD). Anyways, his depression may have been less apparent and not that bad at that point but already there and it only got worse after what happened.
Sorry, I take whatever chance I get to rant about the injustice of what my baby Matthew has to deal with 😬😅

Honestly I felt the same - I didn't read them for an hour or so because I thought about waiting until March for the full thing but then curiosity got the better of me and I caved in... and I'm so glad I did!! LUCIE IS SUPERIOR I REALLY HOPE THE FANDOM SEE THAT NOW!! Sick of our girl being underappreciated!! I agree with you about Matthew, he's never really been 100% happy, and I'm scared about what he's going to deal with in COI and COT, hopefully he'll be alright in the end (although I don't know, haha). I think only grace or Tatiana can take it off and also In CoG the demons strengthened the enchantments on the bracelet so it would be hard to take off

Also I found out that there would be a new series after TLH called the wicked powers (not confirmed) and that the main characters would be Ty, Dru and Kit. I think this series might be about fixing some weird stuff that happened when Ty tried to bring Livvy back. Maybe TLH will show us the side effects of bringing someone from the dead (Jesse in this case)❓ Maybe Grace & Lucie use the same spell that Ty uses (the one that doesn’t involve killing ppl) 🤷🏻♀️

But yes it will be interesting to see the effects of bringing someone back from the dead, although having read TDA, I think what Ty and Kit did with Livvy is very different to what Lucie and Grace are planning to do with Jesse. Just because he was a ghost already, but not a normal sort of ghost...

I've read the first two chapters of Chain of Iron!! I am super excited!!! This is my opinion, I know chain of Iron gives us the hint that the wedding will happen the next day, but I don't think that James and Cordelia are going to get married, (it would be interesting but I don't think it will happen.) The reason I don't think the wedding will happen is because at the beginning of the book someone writes a message to Cordelia and James, I think it's James grandfather who made the person to write the note, the grandfather is coming back in another body, I know that in Chain of Gold Cordelia stabbed the demon, but he also said it isn't over, so I think that James grandfather will interrupt the wedding and will expose that James and Cordelia made an agreement to get married for a year etc. ( I'm so ready for the love triangle between Cordelia, James and Matthew it'll be interesting) I'm super excited for more scenes with Lucie and Jesse!!! (I'm kind of hoping a love triangle between Lucie, Jesse and maybe another boy Lucie met before (I would love to read how Jesse would react being jealous) I do think that Cordelia might feel feelings for Matthew, we will see, but I think James should be clear on his feelings towards Cordelia, especially since he has Grace's bracelet on. I do hope Lucie and Jesse get together. This is my question to another fan: How would you feel if Cassandra wrote a novella or small series based on shadowhunters with disability, such as Ty with Autism, Henry who was in a wheelchair, New Shadowhunters with different kind of disabilities who meet Clary, Jace, etc. and decides to help them? I think it would be awesome because the Clave isn't really accepting of Shadowhunters who are different.
Belial interrupting the wedding? HELL YES THAT SOUNDS SO DRAMATIC I WOULD LOVE TO SEE IT! As for writing a short story collection about disabled shadowhunters? I think that is a SUCH a good idea! I do appreciate that Cassie has tried to bring in characters with disabilities, but I do think she could take it further. Her lgbt rep has been amazing and I think especially in TDA and TLH she has taken that to new levels, so I think it’s also time that she focuses more on disability representation as well. So YES I would definitely read something like that, and I’m very glad you have suggested it!
As I was reading these two chapters I had a theory/question thing ig? Basically - if Jesse is raised up from the dead again, will he have the protection that the ritual gives all Shadowhunters or will he be stripped of them like Jace was? And if he doesn’t have the protection, can he be possessed and could that lead to a further bunch of plot points/conflict? Yikes.
I would assume if it’s Lucie raising him she would have done her research and will probably try her best to make Jem so the ritual on him 😭😭 I have this theory that Lucie is VERY prepared for raising her boyfriend from the dead lmaooo
I have heard of many theories but not about Matthew becoming a werewolf. Is it due to what he did in Ghost of the shadow market resulting in his parabatai bond breaking and his marks being stripped.
Yes! The theory goes that he gets his marks stripped becuase of what he did in Ghosts of the Shadow Market/he gets turned into a werewolf somehow and then stops being nephilim that way - a werewolf is looking more probable that a vampire since Cassie has confirmed we will find out more about Kellington (the werewolf Matthew was having relations with) in Chain of Iron...

Ooooh the blackthorn sword theory:
So we know Cortana burns Cordelia’s hand when she uses it, and when she goes to the hell ruelle one of the people who answers the door asks “there’s no blackthorn blood in any of you, is there?” Or something like that?? So... what if somehow Cordelia is related to the blackthorns/uses the blackthorn sword instead of Cortana to slay Belial?? And bc it isn’t mentioned later on in the other books, mb Lucie charges it with her necromantic powers or something, and Cordelia slays Belial but the sword breaks/becomes unusable after, making it useless. I’m so stressed for CoI lol. Sorry the theory was so long ahaha

I'm sure this book is going to be the death of everyone. I mean book 2 is the destroyer in almost every Shadowhunter series like "The clockwork princess" "Lord of Shadows". I'm scared.
Do not worry, I am equally as terrified. Although I would also argue that the 3rd book in TID did more to destroying my heart than the 2nd one - that epilogue was rough.

i really the hope there is more to the story involving james and cordelia because they are the main characters and i don't want the others over shadowing them because i do see a lot of potential for character development plus i can't handle people bashing jordelia
