Yes reaper has a wife revealed quite a bit ago and he has a child technically a child but I’m pretty sure it’s either a really young when he left or not at all because there is another man in that child’s life anyways. Reaper likes to watch from a far here and there but doesn’t interact whatsoever. Story wise we aren’t actually told why he’s in talon apart from well he is in it and a high ranking member with his skills and leadership. Although if I had to take a guess it’s because it allows him to do vigilante work like he’s always done or somewhat. Reyes was an officer along side Jack but both joined overwatch because of their skills. Reyes wanted to take on evil in the world but followed the law as best as he could. Omnic war blah blah blah his leadership was good but too chaotic and wild for most so they demoted him and sent him to a new group that works for overwatch but handles more dirty work to say the least. Moira was recruited and made Reyes stronger and his hatred made him stronger just like Genjis hatred at the time made him stronger. Although he didn’t have a ton of hate he just didn’t like criminals like talon getting away with whatever so one day he took action. When he went against the law killing a criminal it led to a domino effect that led to the fall of overwatch but there’s more to it behind the scenes that are yet to be revealed but obvious bet is talon. Reyes and Jack were both caught in the explosion of HQ which led to their deaths, but mercy resurrected them. Honestly it hasn’t been said about it but I believe resurrecting is secret not public I mean it makes sense to keep secret if you ask me. But Reyes was already filled with anger do to the people he trusted turning their backs on him for his decisions and friends dying left and right. I’m also confident that he kept his death a secret from his wife to leave her be and keep her out of trouble or just to do his own thing. Doomfist reached out maybe part of his plan all along who knows but he promised a better world which reaper agreed. Talon is bad and it’s mostly terrorist but they do have a goal or multiple it’s more of a divided group working together. Doomfist wants to help humanity evolve but through conflict, same for Moira but through science. Sombra doesn’t care about any group apart from the overwatch equivalent of the Illuminati. Widow well she’s just a puppet, Sigma is also a puppet but believes Talon is helping him with his research. Magua just a guy looking for a good time, Repear my belief is that he trusts in doomfist plan somewhat. He knows doomfist is gonna change the world but he believes it will be for the better since it does fit with his anti hero character he’s been built to be but they could go through to other routes one making him just evil or brainwashed both honestly don’t work for someone like reaper. A lot of this are just me pulling out of the ass and guessing but overwatch is slow with its storytelling by the time it ends nobody will remember it so it’s the best I got

Again story wise I think it would make sense for reaper to not reveal he’s alive to his wife and keep that away which is half leaving but yours does make sense of presumed dead

Reaper is a man who clearly regrets his actions, but believes he’s too far gone to change, it’s clear he still absolutely loves his family, and he’s only after Jack, because he believes Jack caused him to become this monster, and not realizing it was Doomfist, and Moria that caused him to end up this way, not to mention how as Overwatch went on Reaper believed nobody cared about him because he kept being replaced, he was once the captain of Overwatch, but because he was too brutal he was demoted to co-captain, then he was basically kicked out of Overwatch and was put into Black Watch as the captain, he likely believed this meant he was less important, then he was basically fired for doing what he thought was right, in killing that one gangster, now he sits in darkness believing no light no matter how bright and illuminate it.

Fun Fact: A while ago Overwatch published a Short Comic around the Holidays showing the various Heroes spending Christmas, one of the Panels showed Reaper stalking a family of 3. A Reddit AMA confirmed this family is connected to Reaper in some way and following the Overwatch timeline it’s likely that Reaper is stalking his son, now grown up and started his own family.
