oh rachel....thank you so much for the shout out!!! you did such a great job of starting your book! i am honored that you have mentioned 'our village'! go create, go play, go have fun roxy creations!!!
Your tutorial is the best, I've tried others that turned out terribly. I will definitely go check out more of your wonderful videos! Thank you so much!
@@roxycreations679 oh my goodness....what a compliment! our artwork is very different and yet so much the same....go create, go play, go have fun rachel!
Awesome. LoriMarie is so fun. She lives to really get right into it with mixed media. I think this one really went together smoothly. Can't wait to see what kind of journal it becomes. 🌺
Hi Rachel, I have followed you for a while, don’t comment much, but just want to emphasise how much I love your art and style, and the fact that you don’t destress ink E V E R Y little thing! Can’t be bothered... Thats just one of the the reasons why I like watching you and the fact that your art is right up my alley 🥰 I do get the VINTAGE look and all that, but If anyone read this and can find some time to explain to me WHY white is so scary, and why everybody (almost) else is so afraid of white edges & paper , I would be ever thankful. Blessings all around 🤗
I think it's up to the personal preference of the journal artist. Sometimes the ink helps the edges to stand out when doing collage or other layered projects. Personally, I am not opposed to white pages at all. I will ink around the edges sometimes, but other times I prefer a crisp clean background. I will add a little ink if I think a page needs color in a particular spot. I also like to ink in all sorts of colors, not just Vintage Photo. Hope this helps! 😊
Rachel, thank you for showing us how to prepare a book for collage or journaling. We’re ready to begin with our own. Thanks for all you do for your subbies!
So glad I trawled back through to see this tutorial Rachel. The florentine papers are lovely. This is definitely my next project if I can find a decent book. Thanks for the links too.
LorriMarie is the absolute expert on this!! ❤️ On my older altered art journals before I watched LorriMarie I have had to reinforce my internal spine but that worked out ok.
Rachel I love to see you collating and making envelopes. And it would be fun sometime to see you prepare your paper packs. The ones I have received are very artfully prepared ❤️
I’m already loving this project Rachel!!! I discovered LorriMarie quite some time ago and love watching her create!!! LorriMarie was actually my introduction to journals, believe it or not!!! It was through her channel, videos and village that I discovered the world of journal makers and fell in love!!! I absolutely love what LorriMarie does with her altered books!!! I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with yours now also Rachel!!! TFS!!! Hugs, Sharon 🌷💜
My first altered book was made after watching LorriMarie. Those papers are beautiful and that fabric on the spine is perfect or maybe imperfect.😊 thanks Rachel and take care! 😘😘
Great tutorial Rachel. Tfs. You have made me want to go alter a hard cover book. I will add it to my list of want to do projects. Have a great weekend. 💞🇨🇦🤗❤️
LorrieMarie is an amazing artist. I love how you're altering your book here, and I love how you're collaging further along in the next videos. I've worked myself backwards through your videos on this book. A tip for keeping your cuffs and sleeves clean - cut the foot off an old pair of socks, and slip them over your sleeves, the stretchy end at your wrist. It works a dream! My son Dylan❤ taught me that when he did a teenagers summer job in a car factory. Mx
LorrieMarie is an awesome Mixed Media artist! I’ve been watching her for years. Love that she uses mod podge & adds torn book pages into her book to provide more support for her pages which she calls “under pants”. Happy to hear you’ve found her, as well. She also uses gel medium, that allows her to paint her pages, in her books. As well as textured paste, creating wonderful Altered books!
Great video today. LorrieMarie Jenkins is a mixed media art in California. You are right when saying that she gives great instructions. I have made three altered books and am working on another one when I am not collaging using your digital papers.
Fab Rachel, love it and look forward to seeing you fill the book. And your paper packs sound interesting, I am usually too late to your store, maybe this time xx
🧚🏻♀️Loved your video thank you Rachel! I found yours the best for this project, probably because I watch all your videos so I’m in tune with the way you work! Love it and am preparing this book for JJJ!😘
Thanks for this refresher on starting an altered book, Rachel! I recently coffee dyed an entire book with plans to make it an altered book. The book took the coffee color really well, I was feeling so smug, it was really looking pretty.... It took the coffee so well, in fact, that the binding softened up and ALL of the signatures FELL OUT! OOPS!! 😁 Oh well, guess I will have to find a different candidate for an altered book now. 😊 On the plus side, I have a lovely stack of coffee dyed book pages at my disposal. TFS!! 💕 ~Marci
Thank you, I watch LorriMarie, she’s inspiring. I am not an artist at all but I might give some of her ideas a go, after all you inspired me to dabble with my daughter’s old watercolours.
Your explanation is wonderfully done. I’ve wanted to do this yet now I have the courage to follow your instructions, especially after learning some of the pitfalls from you, also! Thank you so much. 😊❤️❤️
Thank you for putting us onto LorriMarie, I will be binge watching her videos this weekend now 😊 Great video as ever and great pics on your Instagram too. I really appreciate your inspiration as I am unable to craft at the moment for many reasons, at least your videos and pics are giving me lots of ideas for when I can. Be well 🌹
Awww thank you so much. It really does work much better this way, if you are lucky enough to have a book with sewn in signatures. Maxine PS. Looking forward to my order, I got notice it shipped!
Rachel, thanks, I’m just about to tackle this on my first big journal cover which someone gave to me and I was freaking out and then - serendipity- you did it for me to see! What a 🌠 you are! Thank you, thank you. I’m still a bit nervous, but I’ll give it a go! I🌷💕🦋
Rachel, the video of LorriMarie Jenkins you mentioned is the one from May 23 2017 on how to make an altered book. I love the result of your altered book!
I really wish we could post pictures here in the comments... you have inspired me so much! I’d love for you to see all the things I e made because of you!!!!
LorriMarie has several ways to decorate a cover of a book too-- some a little more artsy, but all super fun. Take a look at her vegan leather-- really adds a punch to the cover of any book, notebook- even a box or something like that- really fun to play with and not too difficult to make.
Had to tell you, I finally found a book for this project. It’s a fiction book that belonged to my father, who died years ago. So I’m tearing out pages, feeling really sentimental that I’m reusing a book of his and then in glancing at the pages I’m ripping out I start seeing all these really naughty words 😳. Oh my word, it’s very racy! Well thank the lord the words that are staying in the book will be covered up!! I shall always just grin and shake my head over this!
Ok, prepped my book......I'm not saying it's perfect but typically I chose one that had odd pages in the signatures. Tfs, really looking forward to doing something different and for me 😃. Xx
@@roxycreations679 It’s been working great! The book was a gift but it’s from archer and olive. The pages seem made of iron! I do wait for the pages to dry if i add water color. But, heavy markers DO bleed through. 😕 That’s my only complaint. Thin pages would be glued.
This a great thing to learn. Never seen this process. I’d love to see of hear how you keep track of things your family has to do. Do you use a planner? Calendar? Is it fun like your journals or do u struggle to make this cute? I feel like I struggle more making my planner fun and cute but I really want it to be more fun to look at

and hey, bring on the thickness police ;)
Thank you so much!

I love Lorrie Marie! I decided not to glue pages together because they’re so thick. We shall see if that was a mistake! 😎
Let me know how they go.

I enjoy watching all your different varieties of things you do. Where do you get your antique material, is it yours or is there places you can purchase it?
Hope you have a wonderful evening and weekend.
Thanks Sandra
I purchase them at antique markets here in Italy. Thank you so much!
Can you wash a grain cloth in the washing machine or should it be hand done.
Yes you can wash it in the machine at a very high temp too!
Thank you!!!!
I've watched LorriMarie before, she's great!!! have you watched 49dragonflies and the way she makes her calendar/journals from old books???
I haven't seen Barbara's but will check it out. Thank you so much!
If I make mistakes with odd pages I tear them and glue them in as pockets to the next glued pages if that makes sense? Or a tuck spot.
That's a great idea. Thank you so much!
Thank you for showing this! Will check out Lorri's channel.
Thank you so much!
Excellent tutorial!! What is the name of that material on the spine of the book? Did Lulu finish her watercolor painting? Have a great day💕🐬hugs
It's a loosely woven hemp. She hasn't finished it yet but has taken it to school today so let's hope they do something! Thank you so much!
What is that spatula thingy you use to spread glue? Where can I get one? Thanks Rachel.
I just bought one from Amazon. I searched for a “collage brush” - they are silicone. I have to say, I was quite surprised that it looked like a spatula - I was expecting bristles. It’s actually pretty cool!
Mine are silicone face maks brushes. I bought them on Amazon.
So it’s the last page of a signature is glued to the first page of the next?
Yes the last page of a signature is glued to the first of the next. If your pages are thin to may glue the last 2 pages to the first 2 pages if that makes sense.
I also watch Lorie Marie.
She's great!
This was very informative and I hope to begin one as a picture album. tfs❤️
Thank you so much!
Could you tell me what size your wool pad is. Thanks
it's around 33cm x 35cm
