Can I just say that I think I you are amazing! A little background...I'm a recovering addict and have found crafting is an awesome outlet/hobby. My mother-in-law happened to have a yard sale and was going to throw out some books. I took one which had an altered book idea in it. Google led me to UA-cam, then to you. You don't try to be too much like some ppl with how they talk and act or background music/noise. Just calm, happy and fun. I love love love it. Journaling and crafting is great for my sobriety so to find something like this...PERFECT! Lol. Thanks for being a part of that. One down side, I'm new to this and have so many questions. Wish I could sit in the room with you while doing this lol. Thank GOD for Google lol.

When you have a book that large are the signatures the same or approximately the same number of pages?

As a bookbinder this makes me cry in so many ways 😭😭😭😭 but as a junk journal-er and creator, I think this is awesome! I love how you explain about the gluing the 2 pages together at the beginning/end of each signature - that is very important because the way stitched binding is done, usually each signature is not individually knotted, so by ripping out multiple pages, you will lose structural integrity, and by gluing them together, you kind of re-gain that structure. If you don't glue them together at the start/end of each signature, your book won't fall apart right away, because a thin line of glue is holding the thread at the spine, but eventually it will, especially if you rip seams for an altered book (i've seen many people do it like this). I would love to do a book like this, but because of my binding knowledge, I would just rip the seams, remove a bunch of pages, add new endpapers and re-bind with each signature knotted by stitching into a muslin "spine" glued to card stock, so I could have space in between each signature for bulk.. similar to a junk journal 😅😅 and then I would glue the new endpapers. I would probably add some 12mm cloth tapes along the stitching as well, to make it extra sturdy. For most, this would probably be too much to do, because most people just want to get to the art 😂 but for me, bookbinding is a passion. Thanks for the video! Enjoyed watching!

I just started an altered book, taking out pages & did a napkin decoupage with my PVA glue...it was so rough, sanded it. Better results. Ahh!! So frustrating. Thank you for your video. I watched my 1st altered book video the other day as am new to junk journaling. The creator preferred glued pages easier than with signatures. I went to charity store & purchased 6 glued pages books that I liked the content, color and built of took me hours to get the right ones. Now.....ok I'll have to work with what I have. These are to be created as gifts for my kids and grandchildren. Lord don't let them fall apart. Ok, I'll keep learning from you, thank you.

Finally got around to looking on your videos for starting an altered book. Now I need to search for an appropriate book (one that is not glued) but sewn. I'll have to hit my favorite used book store where I always find tons of inspiration. As always your videos are a joy to listen to and I always learn so much and am so inspired. Never too late to learn something new and i"m already inspired to create something with focal points from the first nine years of my granddaughter's life, something that will be fun to create and hopefully some day she will be inspired to create on her own. She is already inspired by me since age two but these new techniques are so much more fun than just drawing. .

Oh my goodness I feel like Alice falling down the rabbit hole...it has taken me multiple rewinds and yet I still managed to podge four pages together. They can stay like that. I have moved on to another bit of the thankfully large book and may or may not have got it right this time. The whole video has finished and now I need to lie down in a dark room for a week before I Google gelatos. Bet it's not ice cream.

I've been following you for several months... I didn't see a purpose (for me) to make this style art into a journal or altered book. I used your ideas to create greeting card art to send to people I loved... a lot 😉. And actually, not sure what I'm going to do with the un-sent cards. I know I just need to make these little gems and I'm getting a lot of them. Well, the other day a friend gifted me a book about artists using art as daily prayer/time devotionals... and each day there is an art project to do. I thought... bingo! I'll use Lorriemarie Jenkins' altered book idea to do my daily devotional activities in, so, pulled out your UA-cam directions for altered books to make a book canvas to work on.. the daily devotionals will be together and easy to get to each day before I start my studio time... I started my painting, mixed-media art journey several years ago when I retired. I began entering my work in local art shows and began selling, getting prizes and attention. I had to back off because I was letting my community dictate what I needed to do.., and the joy of getting to the studio was fading. I had to get in my studio (alone), and work open-ended without worrying about shows, opinions, time... making cards and small pieces has brought me back to finding joy in expressing through mixed-media art.

I was happy to see that one of my 'give away' books had signatures, went into the craft room and began preparing the book, the signatures are GLUED in, grrr. I have already messed the book up, so I'm going to use it, but it's a pain. Live and learn. Thank you for the tutorials, they are great!

So I may have read some of the comments below about said hidden book title and author.. and honestly I feel that's a wonderful beginning layer, a wonderful energy to start with. Not saying this is the author of your book, but I'm tempted to go find a book by Walt Whitman because you know, from what I know of the man, I think he would be delighted to know that his words were carefully woven into some deliciously yummy mixed media.... maybe I can find a sewn copy of Leaves of Grass somewhere.. that gives me a really warm feeling.

I have an art journal hack for you. You know the butcher paper that they double wrap your chicken with at Fresh Market? I think this is as good as the teflon paper, AND FREE!

Hello LorrieMarie....I've actually used white gesso with a bit of black acrylic paint and it works beautifully.
ta dah taina...that is great!!! we can add acrylic paint to the homemade texture paste too....life is so wonderful!!! go create, go play, go have fun taina!!!
