I am so surprised to see that she has successfully traveled with you and she has not escaped or flown off. Wondering if her wings are clipped? A 13 yr. relationship is nothing to sneeze at…its’s so wonderful to see. You are both lucky & blessed to have each other…💞. I only mention the flying away situation because that is what happened to my childhood best friend (Clancy)…I’m 81 now & believe it or not…I still miss that little sweet fella…💔

I believe Lola is a male. I’ve had two cocktails, and the males have the bright colored cheek feathers, and the females have lighter colored cheek feathers. Also, the females don’t whistle or talk as loudly. My male whistled the tune to The Andy Griffith show 😁
Yes, the females not as vibrant colors. Long ago I was 17 my mom bought one for me His colors beautiful I name him Maxamillion. Male cockatiels often have those vibrant cheek patches and can be quite the chatterboxes! It sounds like your previous birds had some fun personalities. 🐦
My gorgeous Pete whistled Jesus Loves The Little Children , and Manamana from Sesame street... plus other songs. He copied the ring of the phone and the microwave .. So easy to teach him new tunes... The best little mate ever. A real character... Wonderful memories💜💜
I salute that bird. Sing away, Lola ! Sing away ! Love that. Amazing personality and a beautiful love of just being happy in her company and life.... I need to remember to be a little more grateful and appreciative of myself. Lola definitely does. And I adore it 😍
Lola truly knows how to spread joy with her beautiful spirit! 🌟💖 It's wonderful to hear how her happiness inspires you to embrace gratitude and appreciation for yourself. We can all learn a little from her! Keep shining! 🎶✨
Cockatiels and Cockatoos are such happy jubilant birds. Anyone that has these birds should be grateful and allow them to sing, be happy and express themselves. It pains me to know there are birds just rotting away in a cage somewhere. Hopefully that will all be changing soon.
Absolutely! 🦜💖 Cockatiels and Cockatoos have such vibrant personalities and bring so much joy to our lives. It’s heartbreaking to think about birds that aren’t given the love and freedom they deserve. Here’s hoping for a brighter future for all animals, where they can thrive and express their true selves! Thank you for caring! 🌈✨

that describes parrots! and really smaller parrots; smol but ENORMOUS intelligence, emotionally sensitivity, personality and longevity; it's takes a lot more than a cat or dog but has unique rewards.
We had a cockatiel, and he was the best ever! We couldn't bring ourselves to clip his wings, and when he got out and wouldn't come back, my husband sat on the porch and cried for 2 hours.
That’s so heartfelt! 💔 It’s clear how much your cockatiel meant to you and your husband. Birds can truly become such cherished members of the family! Thank you for sharing that touching memory! 🦜❤️
Also lost my first cockatiel outside because I didn't trim his feathers. He scremed from 30+ feet up in the air for me to get him, scream for me to get him 30+ feet in tall trees, then got mauled by a wild bird as I watched helplessly from the ground. When they get lost outside they panic, and a bird in panic will fly up till exhaustion and crash somewhere, usually in a tree. It either got snatched in the air by a wild bird, or crashed somewhere and got eaten or die of a heart attack / exhaustion / starvation. Clipping flight feathers properly should limit the bird's speed and height so you can easily get it back if it accidentely goes outside, and so it won't crash too fast into a wall or window if it panics inside. Some people might tell you ''an unclipped bird won't crash in windows because they have better control!''. It's bull-crap. Had both unclipped and clipped. Only the unclipped one injured himself crashing into a wall or window. It should not make the bird fall to the ground. There is nothing cruel about a proper feather trim, your bird should still be able to fly around the house. Larger birds tend to not want to fly as much and get ''lazy out of shape'' more so you should be very careful not to shorten too many feathers. Clipping is also TEMPORARY as feathers get continuously replaced. Cockatiels replace their whole set of wing feathers 2 to 3 times a year. That means you have to trim some feathers again if you want to keep its speed / height limited.
Tiels are superb whistlers. I taught mine the wolf whistle. Felt good to hear that early a.m.. feeling ugly. But no. My bird loves me. If you want them to learn the Andy Griffith theme song, put it on loop while you’re at work. They love the punchy parts of songs. 😅
Yeah. It’s a he,. Cockatiels are pretty easy to tell. Coloring and behavior. Sometimes young babies are hare to tell because the babies don’t have their big boy feathers yet.
Are you certain that lola is female? Males usually sing and whistle as much that and females not so much . Has she ever laid an egg? I feel sure lola is a male but either way so darn cute. My female lays eggs every year, no partner so therefore they are infertile
I had a cockatiel named Melvin (no idea why I picked that name, I was a kid) who everyone was sure was a male cause of the constant singing. It took years but one day she did lay an egg. I still called her Melvin cause it had already been 5+ years but yes, exuberant singing female cockatiels are out there ❤
He’s def going to need some therapy when she passes…..13 years is a long time with something that small…I didn’t get to spend even a quarter of that time with my ferret and him dying in my arms wasn’t something I wanted to repeat…such a stab in the heart so much so that getting another didn’t help at all.
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. 💔 It's truly heartbreaking to lose a beloved pet, especially after so many years together. Every bond is unique, and it can take time to heal. Just know that it’s okay to grieve, and reaching out for support can really help. Sending you lots of love during this tough time. 🕊️❤️
Lola has an avian vet--who never told the owner that Lola is a male? 🤔 It may be time to find a new avian vet.... "Lola" still is adorable, regardless. 😁
Yep. And I'm rather weirded out that an avian vet either failed to notify the owner of this fact--or that the vet did reveal this info. and the owner opted to ignore it. Something doesn't add up here....
Please make sure you dont put them directly under the shower, the way tiels noses are upwards means they can get water in their lungs, mine almost drowned this way
Wouldn't you think a good avian vet would've broken this news to the owner within those 13 years of ownership? 🤔 Hopefully, it's not a case of the vet failing to know/ reveal this info.--or of the owner ignoring it and choosing to call Lola female. Something's off, in any case.
What a coincidence! Sometimes when I sing, people around me also put in their ear plugs. I guess they don't want to get too much of a GOOD thing.
Still an expression of happiness 😊

It's safer to clip their wings so they don't fly away if frightened
