We are 100 km North West of Montreal Quebec Canada and we are getting an average of 200 mbps down and 20 mbps up............. ping is around 32 average!!! When you have no other options...........this is amazing!!!! I used to game on old DSL with a 2.3 down/0.8 up............ Thank you StarLink.
Starlink is achieving exactly what it was designed for. Giving modern internet access to everyone regardless of their location. There’s still plenty of villages and rural areas in the UK that still don’t get 4G, like mine.. It is pricey but the price will be coming down, however much like your WISP you sell internet to business for more than an unlimited 4g plan because 4g isn’t possible…
I found it odd when he compared the distance of Starlink dish to satellite to the 4G router to the tower, he said it would be no more than a mile for 4G? Pretty sure 4G towers can be several miles away…
I have had nothing but improving performance from Starlink, but its properly installed in a static location, not thrown in a field. never had trouble gaming with Starlink, but I'm not a competitive gamer, pretty sure it does not consume 150w constantly due to the fact there is no snow or below freezing yet, so the heating element in the dish is not active.
If you were using this for gaming you would probably forgo the wireless router and plug the Ethernet straight into the laptop. That’d be interesting to see
.... i mean put in perspective.. 400 pounds or 500 dollars or what not is an amazing price if thinking of having internet in more rural areas. the cost at times to get cable ran for some communities can cost in the tens of thousands. although seeing an improvement in the starlink quality and cost would always be good.
I live in a rural area in the states. I’m on DSL internet my ping that I get when gaming is around 45-80 sometimes higher when gaming. The highest available download speed in my area is 13mbps and an upload of 2mbps. For me I’d like to have starlink with that amount of download speeds for when there’s updates to games that are large (warzone most recent 40GB update) I can never play a new season etc after an update due to how long it would take to download the file while my friends that have 100mbps speeds can play within an hour. Hopefully I receive my starlink soon I preordered back in February of this year.

I do think there is something to be said for never having to deal with the headaches of setting up a new router everytime you move. I definitely agree with you if you are stationary or have access to fiber.
Please remember, we are still in Beta, not even half the sats are up. Did you read anything while ordering?????? Uk is not even fully covered yet, which is why your mates havent even paid the full amount yet. You were just very early like many of us (beta users)
Under rated video. Keep up the good work champ. Not many people have a way of simplifying things as you did in this video for everyone to understand 👍 ping is huge for gaming. Every network provider I speak to in Australia has no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to ping/latency so it's hard to grasp what type of internet to connect when they don't understand what there selling
Sorry but you are wrong it will be very competitive for gaming. It has been improved in your last 4 months and they will keep improving it. Physics says and proves it can be very competitive. They have come out with a new (Not Round Dish Version) That has a lot of improvements. So they are getting very close to being competitive. All that is needed to live stream in 720p is 2.5Mbps upload so yes 100% you can live stream & upload videos on Star-Link. I have owned and run a WISP business for years. It is what I do every day. Nice to see you have more time to post more regularly of videos. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas.
No, Starlink has said right out themselves. the new dish is exactly the same. there is no difference other than it probably cheaper, and uses less wattage. speed improvements latency will remain the same. both will get upgraded
Everything looks good, I’m waiting for almost 5 months on that glorious email from Starlink. The only thing that I’m worried about is the upload, wish it was at least 20-25 upload as 10 or less is a bit skimpy in 2021 tbh. Hoping they focus on improving that in the near future.
Same lol I have a phone booster, tp link and caps out at 10mb 😂 starlink will be a game changer 😅I can finally update Cold War and WarZone, it takes me 27 hours for a 40gb update 😂😂😂
What I am always curious about is - what is the latency like in games when you game on a server that is on a different continent? My most favorite game has a limited player base, especially in Australia. So my question is - what kind of pings I will have with that if I game on European or American servers? Is this known somewhere?
Here in the states we don't have Starlink implemented yet and even if it was 5G is going to beat it all day long. Starlink may not connect any faster, if you are at a location where you have previously been I am sure Starlink just remembers where to point for the sat. in that location. P.S. I think you need a sensor clean on one of your cameras (9:53).
Starlink's ping should continue to get lower and more consistent as more ground stations are added and more satellites are put into orbit. Starlink is doing very well considering the fact that there are only 1,800 Starlink Satellites currently and not very many ground stations. Imagine how well Starlink will do when there are 10,000+ of those things in the sky and there is a ground station in nearly every city. Starlink satellites being 550km up actually only adds 7ms to the ping, which is really not bad at all. SpaceX is planning to do an even lower shell of Starlink satellites that are only 340km up at which point only 5ms will be added to the ping. This means that in theory, ping as low as 5ms will be possible with Starlink eventually!
I'm thinking about getting Starlink as the best Openreach-based offering sits around 15Mb and the best 4G offering is 30-40Mb (with constant threats of disconnection due to "fair use excess"). Is it any good for streaming to Twitch?
Starlink was never meant as a replacement for fiber or 4G/5G. Starlink is for the 1% of the population living far from civilisation that the regular internet providers don't care about. That is still hundreds of millions of potential customers worldwide for Starlink.
On the contrary, Starlink is meant to be a gaming ISP. There is almost no reason to put the Starlink satellites into such low orbits as they are now except for gaming.
You know what wouldve been a gamechanger? Since youre playing apex if you wouldve actually showed all the pings of all the servers around the world and singapore, europe and east NA being 30 to 70 ping..
In regards to the 4g. I've got a setup with 4g over EE Unlimited. But the catch is, as im a gamer and a heavy downloader, EE came back to me and throttled my connection because i went over the "100gb" threshold, after many attempt's they changed my package and raised it by £5 from £35 to £40 and then capped my connection, it's more stable but my download speed went from 80-100mb to 30/35mb mid day and then about 40ish offpeak. So they announce unlimited data but in actual fact yes you can download but at restricted speeds. This is why im looking at starlink as an alternative for those higher download speeds and non throttling.
hey Alex, where did you get your very large desk from? I'm talking about the one in your parents house, want to do a similar setup but cant find a desk big enough
"It never will be competitive because of physics"? My latency is now at 22 ms with starlink and download speeds of 460 mbps with uploads of 60mbps so yeah, it's amazing for competitive gaming and even better than most fibre connections

little confused, so are you saying that to save that constant power of 100w+ from the starlink block, you get rid of its own router and hook up to a better router ie wifi6.
The router isn't consuming the power, it's the motors inside the dish to keep it aligned with the starlink array that are consuming the power. Changing the router will do very little to lower the overall power consumption.
@@Mathewmartialart He may have stated changing the router will lower power consumption but did he show any figures when comparing the 2 routers? Very nice complete review 👍have crap internet broadband and ever worst 4G then Starlink is my last option here up in Scotland! Still waiting for as they say service available in 2022...😏
I'm on 4g Internet at the moment....... I was getting tha max the tower was putting out, which is about 5 miles away, 20 down and 1.5 up. Twice in the last 2 years, right after the tower had some sort of upgrades, my signal was messed up. The last time my speeds recovered, not so lucky this time. Something to consider if you go the 4g route.
theoretically a starlink system with a laser link has a faster connection that a fiber optic cable since light travels around 30% slower in a fiber cabal while its the true speed of light in space.
I think we will see a much better improvement in Starlink over the next few years. As there is more Starlink satellites put up in LEO the lower the ping will be especially as these satellites get more powerful. Elon did state that Starlink will be able to see an increase especially when implementing the ground stations directly at the data centres servers like Google. Obviously means less distance to travel reducing the ping and increasing the speed significantly. When Starlink can improve communications between the satellites to and work with these corporations with data centres we will be able to get Starlink at a much more competitive rate. As most of us in the UK fttp seems doubtful in coming years, therefore Starlink will implement a several packages which will hopefully bring down the price like balancing speed with ping. The future is bright for Starlink as it will be able to innovate faster than the ISPS making it much more competitive. One last thing to note is the biggest reason for Starlink is to establish interplanetary communications especially between Earth and Mars, which those satellite will need to be strategically placed and there will need a lot of them being more powerful.
I would say for most people Starlink the ping will be more important because of video calling and working from home. So really it’s probably a good move forward but they really need to sort that upload…
The price of star link is dropping all the time elon has said it will go down to about £35 a month when it’s fully available they are always sending more starlink modules into space
i literally play on 4g LTE! i average 40 to 20ping! and this is on a farm life, they don't offer nbn or any other provider only wifi! which the best you can get on wifi is 60 to 50ping here in Australia!
I get 5-10 ping locally which translates to about a 60ms ping to the the closest game server. But I often play with friends from the east coast which plants my ping at 100ms. Does starlink help bridge that and keep your ping down on longer distance connections?
StarLink started to use satelites that communicate with ich other that have lasers, so in the future there will be some improvement. But I wouldn't count on it.
@@dune4433 If I get a local game server I get like a 20 ping put an east coast server I get ~75-100. If Starlink gave me a consistent 50 ping to all of them that would be a very good trade off for the casual trash gamer like myself
are you in southern NA or northern NA because northern america gets way better starlink connection because of satelittes in the sky elon still needs to launch more
Good content but still can’t help but to be a bit upset. The Starlink system is in Beta so they need you to use the system. Not just let it sit for 4 months unused. Additionally there are thousands if not millions of people around the world that should have received their system before you. I know that isn’t your choice so I am not upset with you about that but if you already have good internet then why even order it? There are so many other people out here that don’t have access to cellular internet, fiber, or even cable that would absolutely love to have that kit you have sitting in the closet or wherever you store it, myself included. So thumbs up for the content I was curious about how well it performed for gaming since I do have children but thumbs down for just letting the system sit and gather dust instead of using it to help the Beta testing and then essentially rubbing it in everyone else’s face that you already have better internet and don’t even need it.
Why not find the server IP run out a come line that pipes the each ping to a log file run it for 2 hours then Loren they in spreadsheet could easily do an average over 2 hours and manipulate the sheet for all sorts of statistics
The ping was improved by Starlink lowering the altitude of the Starlink sats

Curious if you will discuss the laser link in the new starlink system? Suppose to limit the need for ground station and 47% faster than fiber.
the ping in firing range is completely different to normal games. for me i get 30-100 in firing range and 5000 in normal games! i have bt rn and live in the middle of no were is there any thing i can do
Yeah, get starlink.
That's bad the wattage being pulled from that thing! So what are you supposed to do, just unplug it each time you don't want to use it? lol. What a nightmare
A more interesting test would be during peak hours. 4g/wisp results will be quite different.
I subscribed in the first few seconds just based on your editing
That speed test is flawed. It should be Mbps not mb/s...
🤦♂️
that's the same thing buddy
@@cwlter4223 no. Lol...
@@benqwer.130 ok what's the difference then lol
But 4g randomly spikes to 1400 ping
So with the current internet I have I only get 12mb download speed and 0.80 mb upload and my ping in games seems to be around 70 to 97. 97 seems to be where it likes to stay. If I were to get starlink would this be an improvement for me cause if my upload speed shot up to 8 or 9 that would be far better then my 0.80
from what I have seen from other videos the upload speed is almost always above 1 . It also depends on the weather as well I think
Here in Prague, CZ, I can get 250/120 speeds on the 5G network (Vodafone CZ) and a ping of 19ms.
Awesome video dude! Would you be able to post results of pings from your place to Australia / Singapore / Europe so we could check how Starlink's internet behaves ? Thanks mate! Keep up the good stuff!
Love these videos keep them coming Alex
My question is starlink vs a 4G/5G signal booster? 🤔 Great comparison, i think it comes down to whats more feesable in my sitiuation atleast.
If you can get t mobile internet, try it. It's like $50 a month and could have better DL/UL/Ping depending on how close the tower is to you. (Upwards to 1gig DL) no cap either
How can you move to other locations, I thought your service was locked into your location?
theres about a 30 mile radius circle around ur locked location so you can use it in most of your county or town if its small area you live in
@@DUHPlatforms Thank you for pointing that out.
Very nice complete review 👍have crap internet broadband and ever worst 4G then Starlink is my last option here up in Scotland! Still waiting for as they say service available in 2022...😏
Same but in America I hope the cost gos down too
a better test would of been with a lan cable to the laptop, so out you go again and try do it right this time?
I just got the order confirmation 😁 Does this mean I will be getting it soon? I’m paying for it tomorrow!
You'll be receiving it 2023 to 2024 they are backed up on orders.
@@gonefishing744 they shipped the day after I ordered it, didn't seem like backed up order
So was he playing in the car over wifi? How much ping does the router add
Now compare starlink to 4g in the middle of the ocean :P
Alex I love your lampshade where can I get the exact same one?
Can you check what kinds of PING do you get while connecting to a server on the opposite side of the world let's say an Australian server maybe.
Rooter means rowter as it’s pronounced in the US FYI . “Router”
For best ping results would have been better using the LAN Cable directly from the router rather than using WIFi
good to see another vlog from you
I'm on 4g Internet at the moment.......
How did you power the starlink outdoors? Is there a solution to power it with solar? I'm thinking of someone in a rural area with no electricity
He powered it from the battery in his defender.
Why does someone with no electricity even need internet,
@@looming_ Ha ha ha. What a wonderful thought to have...
theoretically a starlink system with a laser link has a faster connection that a fiber optic cable since light travels around 30% slower in a fiber cabal while its the true speed of light in space.
thank you!!! I'm hoping to use Starlink way way way south, in Georgia USA
No charlotte nc
@@jadenminter2465 yeah, I think I'll check back in two years, doesn't look viable just yet
What is your car? I never seen a car with AC Power before
You can buy an inverter for a car. I've done that many times before.
Land Rover Defender ( 2020 )
most of big SUVs and pickup trucks have AC outlet it's a standard nowadays
Would have been good to see the 5G comparison as this will probably surpass star link for the foreseeable future
4G connections tend to throttle after 25-30Gigs a month
I live in Sweden and got unlimited 4G. I use about 800 gig every month.
Does it still use 150w non stop with new router? Edit I know routers don’t use much power but 150W seems huge for the dish too.
Me waiting for Starlink dish come to Indonesia, because in my area is really hard to find fiber services even 4G connection
btw, FTTP = Fiber to the Premises
Can you connect to an oversea server and check ping? That would be an interesting test :)
I would say for most people Starlink the ping will be more important because of video calling and working from home. So really it’s probably a good move forward but they really need to sort that upload…
The price of star link is dropping all the time elon has said it will go down to about £35 a month when it’s fully available they are always sending more starlink modules into space
Ordered Starlink in Feb (UK)... still waiting.. ARGH!
Bufferbloat on Starlink must be insane with so much fluctuations.
Why would you use Wi-Fi connection on a router testing ping and not a cable ?
He's probably just trying to stay realistic to the point if someone is gaming on a gaming laptop, they may be playing over wifi?
i literally play on 4g LTE! i average 40 to 20ping! and this is on a farm life, they don't offer nbn or any other provider only wifi! which the best you can get on wifi is 60 to 50ping here in Australia!
wrong
where i live it's either Frontier or Starlink and I'm about to go with starlink...
I get 20 down and 5 up from sky superfast fibre and they just dont care when we ring up any broadband provider suggestions?
Why do you drive on the wrong side of the car?
Awesome video Alex!
That one dope pad you got bro.
And all that ballex
I get 5-10 ping locally which translates to about a 60ms ping to the the closest game server. But I often play with friends from the east coast which plants my ping at 100ms. Does starlink help bridge that and keep your ping down on longer distance connections?
From what I understand, it does.
StarLink started to use satelites that communicate with ich other that have lasers, so in the future there will be some improvement. But I wouldn't count on it.
@@dune4433 If I get a local game server I get like a 20 ping put an east coast server I get ~75-100. If Starlink gave me a consistent 50 ping to all of them that would be a very good trade off for the casual trash gamer like myself
i cant wait for try starlink
I have Starlink and not able to game on it. I get kicked repeatedly every few minutes due to very short 5 sec outages.
are you in southern NA or northern NA because northern america gets way better starlink connection because of satelittes in the sky elon still needs to launch more
Don't you have obstructions?

Try reseting it.
So thumbs up for the content I was curious about how well it performed for gaming since I do have children but thumbs down for just letting the system sit and gather dust instead of using it to help the Beta testing and then essentially rubbing it in everyone else’s face that you already have better internet and don’t even need it.
sadly with gen 2, you can not run starlink without its router, as you still need to have it attached to run.
Why not find the server IP run out a come line that pipes the each ping to a log file run it for 2 hours then Loren they in spreadsheet could easily do an average over 2 hours and manipulate the sheet for all sorts of statistics
Keep it up with the regular uploads
It's 600$for the sat 100$ a month and 100$ down just to let them know you want it -.-
