I believe that fiber technology could eventually pose a competitive challenge to your business. However, considering your rural location, the process of its adoption might be slower. Additionally, in the States, fiber installation typically requires a significant demand from the community before it becomes available.

    • @stevejones8392

In the uk most rural areas have access to at least sogea (fttc), with the analogue switch off happening soon, Openreach are having to prioritise rural locations as they have to be able to provide voice services.
Without analogue service they have to provide broadband, generally via fibre. Unfortunately wisps will have issues if they don’t provide voice alongside broadband services.
I know I wouldn’t want to be relying on a service with non external cat5/6 berried in a field!

Very interesting video indeed. Do you keep an eye on what your customers are up to? Are there laws in the UK for WISP owners/operators about keeping logs of what people do with the connection you have purchased for on-selling?
It would be nice to assume your customers do the right thing while online... but if they don't and the plod comes knocking at your door (as the owner of the WISP equipment/connection) because something dodgy is going on, can you pinpoint who has been naughty downstream?

I wonder what the cost of those dishes / install costs are? With your time, initial outlay on equipment, providing service and the existential threat that your business model can be crushed by FTTP I don't know if this is the best use of your time... but very entrepreneurial and some great lessons learned + content!

Seems like he's also providing the home router. Some of them can be configured to a max speed internally.
Otherwise he could also limit from the core based on the IP

Alex I have been watching your videos for the last two years and, you have inspired me to start my own (fibre) broadband business, my concept is a little bit different, however I am extremely grateful for your sharing your experience and confidence in how you setup your network, i managed to target around 2500- 3000 customers in two in half years, thanks for your videos which boosted my confidence. we have a couple of sites around the UK which I would be happy to show you, I look forward hearing your response.

If your traffic shaping is done on that edge router your going to run out of processor very fast, get yourself an infinity router fitted, it’s peanuts for a wisp like you … also WISP = wireless internet service provider. Come on Alex! why are you not using gigabeams or air fibre? Why are you using unifi switches and not edge switches ? Why are you not using edge power for back up reasons ?

There is one misconception: you can get fibre internet even in rual countryside. It's only very expensive. It's a shame he didn't mention the cost of his internet connection: In my country it's about 2000$ a month and 50000$ installation for some ballpark numbers. It allways depends where they need to dig and if the faster tranching is possible or if there are some areas where they have to dig by hand.
