  • Just wanted to show you my process when receiving shipped eggs. How to incubate them start to finish. These are Ayam Cemani eggs. We already have Ayam Cemani chickens, I just wanted to get a different blood line introduced. We got these eggs from Kim at DragonFly Farm in North Carolina.
Let eggs rest on the counter pointy end down for 24 hours.
Put in incubator and set temperature to 99.5-100 and humidity to 40%.
Candle at day 10 and remove any undeveloped eggs.
Day 18 remove from turner and place in hatch tray and set humidity to 65%
Day 21 remove chicks. Or 3 days after the first chicks hatches if you have a lot of non hatched eggs. Chicks can survive up to 72 hours without food or water.
50% is about the average for us on shipped eggs. Sometimes you have a better hatch and sometimes worse.
We hatched 13 of the 24 that we paid for. 54%
    Thanks for watching.

    So excited
Just received 2 dozen hatching eggs
Will be placing in incubator this week
Will post update on outcome. This is our first hatching eggs that were shipped. And I must say, the packaging was first class.

Appreciate all the info and the explanation while candling. There was some different info in there but you seem pretty confident with your technique so I think I'll try it your way. 👍

I had a breeder send me 6 Ayam they were lost in the mail for 5 days the box was damaged eggs were loose in a carton unlike how yours had bubble wrap in the carton as well as wrapped. Mine was only a carton wrapped in bubbke wrap in a 12x3.3x15 box.
2/6 were broken I used melted crayon to seal the cracks. I expect a hatch of maybe 1/12 and it will probaly be one of the barn yard mixes she sent with the 6.
Super cool to see your process!

Hello, how much time can you have the eggs outside the incubator, for candling before putting them back in???

Got three of them, use them exclusively most of the year. Only use a heat lamp in the winter for the first week, then switch back to the plate.

Which smaller incubator do you use?

I have an amazon one that I bought 3 years ago. The company doesn't make them any more other wise I would recommend them out. I was sent a small 16 egg incubator and hatched 11/16 on the first try. It worked pretty well and very minimal on the electric bill. I did a video on it, you check it out in my vids.

If I had 36 eggs shipped to me and only hatched 13 out of 36 I would be very mad and upset even if I only paid for 24 eggs. It's not worth buying hatching eggs in the mail. The way mail handles packages these days. Buying chicks you at least know your buying a live bird. If that's the case with hatching eggs they should ship twice as much as you order. Order 24 you should get 48 eggs just because of the lose. I would not be happy with your results at all unless the breed you bought has that problem in it's genetics.

I mean, if you feel that way, then definitely don't purchase eggs online. It really depends on the way the shipper packs the eggs. I've had good hatches. And I've had batch hatches. I just don't purchase again from people who don't package well. In fact, I find that most people don't know how to ship more than 1 dozen at a time. They try to cram 2 or 3 dozen in 1 box so they can save money, and that's usually the problem.
