I've worked for a graphics printing company since 2008. Best advice I can give you is to run that machine every day. Even if it's a test print. Run something. Even the white. Those white print heads can clog. Not sure about the Mimaki white ink, but our white ink has titanium in it that can cause it to clog the print heads if you let it sit. Good luck!
Gosh!! I didn’t realize I had FOMO!! But I do bc I wanted a UV printer but thank you for showing me my small business isn’t ready for this! You put things into perspective that we can understand. I appreciate your insight!
We bought our 6042mkIIe from PDS as well. We do not run ours everyday so the only thing we have to do daily is shake our white ink...run the printer at least a few times a week....clean test prints. I can't wait to see what Emily does with hers...
I've gone through so many clear acrylic sheets checking the print-heads before each job. The UV printer is a maintenance nightmare but I felt like my background as a printer and copier technician would be a great benefit. I'm just a small craft shop that does laser and UV printing for craft/farmers markets.
Yea that's definitely why I wanted to help give as clear a picture as possible before people get FOMO for something that may not be the best fit for their needs. Once you get the maintenance down it's really easy and simple. I hope you're not running into those issues anymore.
Just bought one about a week ago - looking forward to getting it up and running! Not a Mimaki (so jealous!) but one I could afford so that I could dip my toes in to see if it will complement my business.
@@susan_halla thank you for watching. They are so much fun! Don’t slack on taking care of your new toy and I look forward to hearing about what you do with it! 😃
Not all printers in the same class as the Mimaki UJF have to be cleaned "every other day. every 2 days max". I have a Roland VersaObject MO-240 and it only needs to be cleaned weekly. If you choose to go with the white ink option, then they recommend the white ink cartridges be "shaken" every 2 days. I've gone 2 weeks without touching it without an issue. I come from the wide format printing side of the business for almost 20 years...Overall, fantastic video!
This is great feedback. Thank you for sharing. I received the printer right during the middle of summer with lts of momming and travel. It's possible I didn't put enough maintenance fluid before I left or didn't shake the whites enough in between. I will try that next time I'm away for more than 2-3 days but overall I've found I love my printer more when I don't let her sit for too long, ha. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for your question! 😊 I’m not an affiliate of PDS Equipment, and they don’t have an affiliate program. I did receive the machine for review purposes, which I mentioned in the video and the description. I always aim to provide an honest and unbiased review based on my experience, so I hope you find the information helpful! If you have any other questions about the printer, feel free to ask.
She looks very annoyed with the shaking of the ink. But I love her videos. I am not sure why they can have the software cycle the printer by itself. You think with 30 grand, maintenance would be less hassle! 🤔
Hey there. Thanks for sharing. I wasn't annoyed. It probably seems that way because I'm not used to having the camera on me without having anything to say but I wanted to model what everything looks and feels like. It's a great piece of equipment and Mimaki has white ink circulation all the way through the print heads and subtanks. Mimaki also has a jettable primer that allows for superior adhesion. :)
@@ThatMomWithALaser You are a creator and maker. I am sure you can figure out a way to add an agitators to the top of all the ink canisters or at least the white one. They sell the bottled lids that mix the health drinks. I'm sure one of those lids could be modified to fit on top of the ink canister and even set on a time. But maybe for the next video! By the way you are amazing!!! 😅
@@Mr.Frisky-2x Bahaha I appreciate your faith in me but the thought of trying to do that already gives me anxiety, ha. Thank you for the kind words and for sticking around!
Mimaki?? $60,000 USD supported with a mere 1 year warranty. Would you buy a car for $60K with a 1 year warranty!?!. NOPE. $4,000 to replace a print head (parts and labor). NOPE.
I think i read the title is about what we need to know before we get a printer , not an advertisement for PDS and ya just to let you know i bought my uv printer from china yes china and its working like a charm and better quality than this , and no I'm not Chinese I am Canadian...... And ya for who is reading my comment the Chinese printer same size shipped to Canada was quarter the cost of this 35k or 50 k

Thank you so much for such great info and not sugar coating the cost and maintenance and what it takes to run one. Very cool, maybe one day! 😊

Print the test on a glass sheet then razor blade it off. I use transparency film as well.

Is there a good affordable printer to start with? My business is very small but I want to get into uv printing for tumblers and other blanks
If you don’t run the UV printer everyday, don’t get UV printer
Thanks Emily!
@@angiefilipsic4398 my pleasure. ❤️
I have the sublimation Epson 570 I really wanted UV but that’s next.
We all start somewhere. Five years ago this was waayyyyy out of reach.
I shall watch this and live in the fantasy world where I can actually afford a UV printer...
The Mimaki doesn't have a self cycling mode?
Great question. It absolutely does.
The Mimaki does have Self cleaning features and white Recirculation.
