My FSL Muse Pro 48x36 spent 18 months untouched at my studio.... I have another business that needed all of my attention. I started learning all the ins and outs of this system in the past 2 weeks and all I can say is I freaking love owning a solid and easy to learn laser cutter. I should say that having background in fine art / installation art / graphic design and carpentry gave me a leg up in creating files and operating the muse software. Theres something incredible that happens to your creativity when you have such a versatile tool in your shop!!

You're truly an inspirational person, Emily. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and paying it forward the newbies like me. I know it is a lot of work to produce these videos outside of your other "to-do's" in keeping your business running. Question, however. Are you drawing your own vector art in making your products or are you purchasing them from someplace else like Adobe for instance? Thanks :)

Great advice! The only thing I would change is that connecting with your buyer when the order is placed and when the order is shipped isn't "over the top." That's good customer service and a business basic requirement for true success. It helps build customer trust, which ultimately results in higher ratings and more sales.

Absolutely love this video and have gleaned a number of great ideas for our business! Specifically the FB group - now I’m thinking about how I can set one up for friends, family members, and others connected in agriculture (my wheelhouse) to generate ideas, collect feedback, share new items and discounts, etc. I especially LOVE to hear that you’re planning to dive into Shopify, Amazon Handmade, and wholesale. I’ve got Shopify down, but I just signed up for Amazon Handmade and have no idea what I’m doing. Wholesale has also been on my mind a lot but not sure what the next steps.
Cheers to you, Emily! Thank you thank you! Onward and upward!

I have been laser engraving several things for over a year on the side, my issue is getting leads and sales. If I could get that part figured out I could probably do it full time which I would love to do. Any tips on getting eyes on my products? I’ve tried Etsy and eBay and Facebook but nobody knows I exist that’s the problem.

I have a question. I have a CO2 laser 40 watt and a 20 watt Diode laser. The 40 watt is basic and the Diode laser is much easier to use and I found that I enjoy using the diode laser a lot more than the CO2 laser. I'm looking at upgrading the Diode laser to a newer model. Couple of things I found is that the Diode laser is not as fast and it doesn't cut clear acrylic. With what you are selling would a Diode laser do just as well as your CO2 lasers ?

With so many people getting a laser and trying to sell the market gets smaller and smaller. What worked a year ago may not work today. Having 10,000 people selling the same thing as opposed to 10 people selling creates a slow performance for new people, especially. That said, my teenage nephew started selling wood turning items when everyone else was, he has done so well after a couple years that he could probably turn it into full time. Perseverance and studying the market like this lady says is absolutely necessary to success.

  • @QuiltersHandyman

Excellant video...very informative but......I am exhausted thinking about just maintaining an ETSY page, that alone sounds like a full time job. You must have help. Beyond managing a family life...there are dozens of things to get done and all take time. Once you come up with the product idea...create the product (and there are many things to do with this alone) package, ship, order repacement material, and do all of this for multiple items. Then add in equipment maintinance, book keeping, a lot more time. Plus you have a youtube channel which in itself takes a lot of time to shoot and edit. I used to sell wood products at a local Farmers Market one day a week, Saturday, and worked all winter creating product and still worked all week during the summer to replace sold items. I finally, at my wife insistance quit doing that. I am admittedly an old man now (83) and no longer have the energy I had even when I was in my 60s. I know a long post...I admire your commitment and energy...keep it up.
