At this point mirrorless camera makers should have been experimenting with much more efficient and sensitive SPAD, quantum dot and graphene enhanced CMOS sensors. Graphene sensors are x1000 more sensitive than current ones and can detect even deep thermal infrared spectrum so just imagine enormous possibilities.
I don’t think Canon will maintain a strong enthusiast base for long. According to the latest 2024 reports, Sony is now the top-selling camera brand in Japan, its home market. For Canon to stay competitive in the mirrorless segment without impacting their cinema lineup, they should consider the following: Open the RF lens mount to third-party manufacturers. Reduce prices, add more features, and stop holding back essential options, like omitting a headphone jack on entry-level crop-sensor cameras. Improve sensors and in-body image stabilization (IBIS). Since the release of the A7R5, Sony has significantly upgraded its IBIS, enhancing handheld shots.
