    Never tried Pure Havane, but Naxos is one of my favorites. It really has zero weaknesses; well-blended, classy as hell, and performs like a champ. I don't think patchouli would work in this kind of composition and glad it isn't there. This is Xerjoff's best buy imo as it costs less than many of their 50ml.

    Naxos is the clear winner here. It is a truly beautiful scent, possibly the best tobacco scent (altho tobacco nuit from Athlier cologne is beautiful too). The tobacco and honey note blend superbly, along with what I deem to be a leather note in the mid notes. Projection and logevity are beast mode indeed. A good all year round scent altho I would suggest summer evening wear for the best possible scenario. Yes Xerjoff wins again!

    Dan, great video, as always. I find resemblance very close. No doubt on my mind that Mugler inspired Xerjoff. While I have and love both, Pure Havane (the only A*man I like and own) starts more alive and loses its kick the deeper in the dry-down you are. Naxos on the other hand, to my nose, is more linear but it holds on to the best part of Pure Havane's development a lot longer. Therefore, Naxos is my strong preference. It is 4-5 times more expensive, true. To make it last with Pure Havane, I would use 3-5 sprays and reapply after lunch: and even then Mugler is not the strongest in the projection department :) Naxos, on the other hand, lasts 12+ hours on me and projects much better from just 2 (yes, two) sprays. So, they really are the same price per application but there are nuances: Naxos has more amber-like note on my skin while Pure Havane is more vanillic in drydown, Naxos has a pinch of lavender and is more aromatic while PH is more resinous and a lot sweeter. But to untrained nose, these will be the same and Naxos really delivers for the price, so they both deserve the place under the sun. If I had o pick one, I would pick Naxos on overall better score...

    Nice review Mr Smelly! Naxos i have a 10ml from fragrance samples uk, one of the best i have ever put my nose on in terms of quality it really is. What i personally do is build up a collection of some of the more pricey fragrances from fragrance samples uk. Reason being most of the more mainstream ones i can try out in my local Boots, Perfume shop etc... I have 10-15 10ml samples and use them quite sparingly. I am a big fan of Greggie boy's sample option, i don't know him personally i just happen to think it is an excellent service they provide. The samples i really like i often buy a full bottle to go with my mainly designer full bottle collection. Allbeauty at the moment have some cracking deals on Acqua Di Parma btw.

    To me, Naxos is Manly, Wealthy and sophisticated. Pure havane is unisex, middle class,? playful. There really is a gap between the two. I would choose a "decant" $ of Naxos, because to me, it has this true to life ceder wood note, and lasts longer on my skin. Pure havane is just a sweet cherry tobacco scent that does not last too long on my skin and smells quite simple and inexpensive in comparison. There is this heavenly, baby powder vibe in Naxos, but for me this adds decadence to the scent.

    When I just got into fragrances and had the opportunity to compare both of these, I actually thought they smelled practically identical, except that Pure Havane was rougher and Naxos had more finesse. Today, I still maintain the exception, but now they smell so much different from each other that I have to wonder what in the hell my nose was smelling back then. Nevertheless, they are both outstanding fragrances and are both worth their purchase price in my opinion, but you are clearly getting much better bang for your buck with Pure Havane. And if I had to live with only one of them - that's the one I'd pick.

      @Norwyn Schultze I enjoyed your comment. If you don't mind me asking, does either Naxos or Pure Havane have a bit of cigar scent? I'm looking for a cigar scent fragrance that won't break the bank. 😉

    • @Saxeh
      @Saxeh 2 роки тому +1

      @@oldiesgeek454 To be honest, I'm really not much of an expert when it comes to the scent of cigars. That said, I'd wager that Pure Havane has more of a cigar-like profile in there in comparison to Naxos, but there is a *lot* of sweetness in there as well. As a matter of fact, with Naxos I don't get much of a tobacco scent at all - it comes across as more of an amber profile to my nose. The closest I've come to smelling cigars in a fragrance as far as my imperfect memory serves would be Aramis' Tobacco Reserve.

      @oldiesgeek454 2 роки тому +1

      @@Saxeh Thanks for that, I appreciate it. Hope you don't mind me asking one more question. I have considered buying Tobacco Reserve in the past. If you had to compare Pure Havane to Tobacco Reserve, which one has the stronger tobacco scent? And which one do you prefer?

    • @Saxeh
      @Saxeh 2 роки тому +1

      @@oldiesgeek454 Tobacco Reserve has the stronger tobacco scent. It is an unabashedly dry, smoky and woody fragrance where the tobacco plays a real starring role. In Pure Havane, the tobacco takes a bit of a back seat to the gorgeous cherry sweetness. Between the two, I prefer Pure Havane, but not because of anything tobacco related, really - I'm just drawn more to sweeter fragrances as a rule. If tobacco is your main focus, then I'd strongly suspect you'd get more out of Tobacco Reserve than you would Pure Havane.

    The term "clone" has been completely bastardized by people that have no business evaluating perfume, everything is a clone now 🙄 Just because something has a couple notes in common or a fragrance contains a hot new aroma chemical like ethyl-maltol doesn't make it a clone or mean a fragrance was inspired by a previously released fragrance, thats crazy. I know you didn't say that was your stance, just that I've noticed that within fragcomm over the last couple of years.
