For the people who are full of criticism why do you waste your time and energy. This is an amateur performance. If it was Broadway one might wonder. In fact it is a credible production and an heroic effort for a school in an America that has pretty much dumped any cultural curriculum in the education system. Music, Art once were standard in every Public school in america, beginning in elementary school. That has pretty much disappeared. So bravo to the students, teachers and all faculty who have supported this effort.
I have to wonder how many of those criticising could do anything anywhere as good. These young people really pulled this off. All of them really portraying their characters with passion and skill. They deserve big accolades
Five minutes in and I was being pretty internally judgey about the production, but you make a good point. If these are high school students, well then good on them for even trying. This is a very dance-heavy show, that is supposed to be dancers of the highest level competing for a few precious roles in a new dance production. In New York. On Broadway. So this was very brave of high school kids to do.
Blown away right here. There is hope for the world that a high school drama department had the balls to do this show. The kids are amaaaaaaazing; their faculty director/producer must be a truly gifted human being.
The people saying this is "terrible" are ridiculous. Yes, it IS a high school production. I don't know many High Schools that are capable of putting on a production with quality such as this. The amount of talent in this school is RIDICULOUS. And a show such as Chorus Line - in general should never be done in a high school, because it's really challenging, plus the adult nature of the show. But the entire group approached the material so strongly you can't help but just sit back and watch. In particular, Jessica Bezek, Zac Fletcher, and Izzy Gervasoni really impressed me. With work and commitment, they have strong careers ahead of them if they choose.
Agreed. I'm amused by people who don't even have learner's permits to drive yet ripping this apart and insisting how much more amazing THEIR school's show was. This is a great performance for a high school.
Any complaining is certainly not coming from me! I live in freakin New York City and seen sooooo many B'day shows ( I know you all have to) including Annie (the movie is NOTHING compared to the original show), Dreamgirls, In the Heights, Book of Mormon, The Wiz....I personally think this is great!!! I LOVE when young people do things like this, classic shows. Can you imagine? These guys are keeping theater and art ALIVE!! By the way, only my opinion but they speak SO WELL. Most of them sound like professionals! Have you listened to the original Broadway cast album! These High School people should be commended!! Just sayin'
Not only was this performed at a high school; it's a public high school. (I looked it up.) I actually watched this whole thing with a friend on a Thursday night; it was excellent.

Toongeek45 I agree, but the dancing is good but not as difficult as the BROADWAY production. However, for a high school production, they were great!!! Not many High schools could ever. do this demanding show, this one did, and commendabley so!!!!¡! congratulations!!!!
The young lady playing Morales is a star. Seriously, her acting is on point and she's got a great voice. Such a wonderful face and really great stage presence. I hope she stays with it.. she'll have to fight for it because she's Latina and Hollywood doesn't make a ton of roles for Latina women, I just hope she makes it. She has it.
Hollywood and Broadway discriminate against all Latins. The industry thinks there is only one minority. It is silly that they have all this distracting nonsense during her number.

These kids are amazing. I’ve seen this play on Broadway, and when I started playing this video, I assumed this was a college production or summer stock. Hats off to whoever is the theater director at this school. This material is way, way beyond what 99.9% of high schools could do.
So glad I stumbled onto this performance. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. I thought all these kids did an admirable job, but I'd like to give a special shout out to the girl who played Maggie for her extraordinary vocals, the girl who played Connie for her outstanding dancing, and ones who played Cassie, Bebe, Greg, and Mark for their superb acting.

+Manuel Guzman I saw the revival in 2008 - 9. I had always wondered what all the fuss was about. Happened to be in NY when the revival was playing and went (actually, was kind of dragged) to see it. When we left that theater, I knew what all the fuss was about! The "lady in red" (with the history with the director) - I have NEVER seen anyone dance like that before. Ever. My boss is from NY (actually, his address is 2211 Broadway - Upper West Side - The Apthorp) and he knows that actress/dancer. When she came out for her curtain call, the place just went berserk! I kind of felt bad for the rest of them - because they were all fantastic.
Awesome job everyone!!!!! I get teary-eyed every time I see another company putting on ACL! I know these young dancer/singer/actors will remember this show for the rest of their lives! I hope they can remember that they touched THIS stranger and made his day!!! Keep on living your dreams!
High School, college or even small regional theater group this is is stellar! It not " fair" to compare it to Broadway this is tough stuff and you do not see them sweat.
Reading the comments and just noticed this is a hughschool! I'm a freshman in a performing arts high school AND WOW! I couldn't even tell this was a school performance
People who are being critical obviously haven't been to many high school productions. This is a very difficult show and these students did very well. They weren't perfect, but I'd like to see most people try to pull this off. I thought they were convincing and very entertaining. Yes, the mikes were very distracting. Camouflage them in flesh tone or hide them in hair pieces. I wanted to do this show so badly when it first came out, but it was too expensive to obtain the rights. It was also deemed too R-rated for a high school in those days. I did get to dance in "One Singular Sensation " in a variety show, however. Toughest number I ever did, but it turned out pretty well. The crowd loved it.
+HistoryMovieCritic The dancing wasn't prefect, but for a high school production it was actually extremely impressive! Dancing is almost always one of the weakest parts of high school shows, since they don't usually specifically audition dancers, just actors and singers. So you end up with a lot of kids with no dance training whatsoever. In most high school shows I've been to, the dancing consisted of jazz squares and maybe some kicks. The choreography they pulled off, by that standard, is unbelievable!
This is an excellent high school/community production. God Bless the director/choreographer/conductor for putting this together with these young performers. Not an easy task...Bravo!
I've just watched this and was totally impressed with the acting and production. I've seen the Broadway touring production three times. But I've also seen a "semi-professional" production and this one totally blew it away. My cheeks are sore from smiling all the way through and teared up a few times. My heart goes out to all the actors in this and hope they had a great/fun time doing it and are proud of their accomplishment. Bravo!
This is a SOLID production, and this is a dear piece to me, and because of that I’m highly critical of productions of it. This was fabulous!! Honest performances, great direction and choreography. I laughed, I cried. KUDOS!!!
I've seen my share of good high school productions and bad ones. A Chorus Line is a challenging show, even for professionals. This production was one that could rank way up there as outstanding. For those who can't find anything good to say, remember that these are high school students who are in school all day and likely spent all of their free time rehearsing. The quality of this performance is exceptional, the talent superb and the orchestra all were on point. I've seen this show on Broadway and at universities. This high school production is just as good. Paul's monologue especially stood out. For the few imperfections noted, the overall tone and enthusiasm more than made up for them. Congratulations cast and crew! You've done your school proud.
this is awesome, great job to the kids and everyone! noticed they all pose the same way after each number, as per the image on the original cast recording. great attention to details!
@@richardmayora1289 It's not distracting when you're at the theatre as you're nowhere near as close as you are with a camera. And it's not a stupid practice at all. it works very well for us and audiences.
I'm amazed they could find that many boys willing to dance; guess things have changed since I was in High School 60 years ago. The guy who kept staring at his feet was a nice touch; there's always a dancer who can't break that habit. I studied at the largest and perhaps best known dance school in New York back in the 50's (Jack Stanly's) and Jack always said it took 7 years to produce a dancer, so it's ridiculous to compare this production to the Broadway show. (Yes, there are the Mozarts who are exceptions to the rule.) This is a really good effort at a very challenging show.
I once ate some bad fish and spent two days throwing up and trying to shit out my internal organs. And I still enjoyed it more than that horrendous movie.
This must have done in one enlightened town. I'm amazed the One Million Mothers didn't march on the place screaming about child abuse over lines like: "I'm terrific at a dance, guys are coming in their pants." Nice to know there are such places in the States.
+Robert Crowe I was just thinking the same thing. I feel sure the original book was somewhat . . . redacted, if you will. But it is interesting how different schools and regions value different things. (I'm from football/basketball/baseball/athletic America). Now, if you've got a state championship football game (or band competition) going on . . . we're all over it! LOL! But I'm not sure the high school here even has a drama dept. (and if it does, I'm sure there are VERY few male members). You would never know it. All part of the stew, I suppose . . .
I went to a high school that highly valued athletes and lowly valued thespians. However the drama teacher was amazing and produced some amazing productions despite having small casts and small budgets. Then I transferred to a high school that put an emphasis on academics and arts and took drama and realized the teacher sucked.
This is incredible for a high school production. I think that a lot of people who are saying that it was bad don't realize that they are intended to mess up. They are pretending to just be learning the dances as they go (except for the finale).
you guys are judging and im just jealous i never got to do this show in high school LOL. at the ballet (my favorite song), that trio had some incredible harmonies going on. they sound fabulous. nothing bad to say about bebe (who is usually my favorite character due to how i identify with her), maggie had a great moment, and her voice is reminiscent of the original, and the sheila is captivating.
These are teenagers?! Man as a teacher myself I could only wish wish wish my students could and WOULD do this! We had to do West Side Story with a full female cast because no boy would participate
as a teen who does both theater clubs at my school (I'm at an all girls high, we have our own drama club, and our sister school (boys school) has their own, which we are allowed to participate in), it's so annoying how many boys do the boys' school club just to be with girls. every time we do a major musical we have about 5-7 boys, and 15-25 girls. its like... why do we bring up boys to feel as though theater is for girls/queer people??? its a fun way to express yourself, and get to know yourself and others better...
For an ordinary high school production, it's pretty good. I can't imagine trying to get wnough GREAT dancers to do the first scene from an ordinary high school.
As I'm watching this I had to add another comment. They even did a really good job of recreating Michael Bennett's iconic choreography. I feel like I'm on B'way again.
This is actually really hard, you know? I’m on a Chorus Line production and because of a matter of time and difficulty we won’t be able to put the entire show.
I like Michael Douglas’s interpretation of the role and on every live performance, I always feel like the one who plays him over aggressively .Douglas is calm and cool for the most part.
Great production for a high school. The set, costumes, and choreography are all exactly like the original Broadway production. Kudos! Just one puzzling question: How come the only Asian chick wasn't cast as Connie Wong, the only Asian character in the show, and instead was cast with a white actress? The Asian chick sounded like she had a good voice at 3:18.
This is just my opinion. I do not know any of these young and talented people. I have watched this performance several times now and thoroughly enjoyed it every time. I think the reason the only Asian chick wasn't cast as Connie Wong was because that little white girl who did play "Connie Mackenzie" was probably the best dancer in the entire cast and it would have been a waste of her talent not to give her one of the featured roles. I actually would have liked to see her play "Cassie;" I'm sure she was a better dancer than the girl who played Cassie. I think because her diminutive size, however, the obvious role for her was "Connie."
They did great. If you want to see a great documentary of the real auditions for Chorus Line it is on here called Every Little Step. It is free. Awesome!
For high school , this has got to be the best production I have seen of this or any musical. The vocals, acting, full orchestra, although a couple of added segments but on point, however, the dancing was clearly beginner first year dance studio! And that's what turns me off, as I come from dance.....This entire show is about professionally trained dancers doing Broadway , etc. I guess we should look past that but look at story in itself.
This was actually extremely good! The girl who played Val wasn't my favorite, she did overact it a little bit. But everything else was pretty damn good.
Why did they make Connie white? They had an asian girl in the opening number who seemed pretty dang good. That said- great propduction, guys. For Highschool, it's incredibly impressive. Maggie is amazing. Her voice is so lovely.
I thought the same thing about Connier...But, The production is admirable.A few were really good. But many went flat, often! With that sasid do not think my high school could have ever pulled it off
This is just my opinion. I do not know any of these young and talented people. I think the reason they made Connie white was because that little girl who played her is the single best dancer in the production and it would have been a waste of her talent not to use her in one of the featured roles.
There's people who are confused about the the mics on the actors' foreheads: that technique is standard Broadway/off-Broadway/professional miking. I use this technique all the time. It gives a great capture of voices without the irritation of actors accidentally rubbing or hitting the mic when they touch their face. Given the fact the mics that I use have different skin color element cables to hide it more so than a black mic on a white person.
i know everybody is commenting this but... this is a high school production?!?! i was like "huh don seems a bit young, isn't he supposed to be older?" then i read the comments and WOW. you go guys!
I was about to jump on and criticize until the comments made clear that this was a high school production. They really should make that clear. I had thought it a professional production which was woefully miscast. I was wrong and am humbled for the comments that were going through my head.
They are doing a remarkable job for creative arts students. Amazing. The show makes zero sense unless they are professional dancers though. It just doesn't. There are so many brilliant musicals for singer/dancer/actors that can fully cater to a young talented cast but this is not one of them.
My point is that the lyrics are meant for much older adults to look back at their first sexual encounters and puberty. Most of these performers are in the middle of that to be singing like they remember "how it was". This show's themes are nothing they have experienced yet.
Hannah Lee mics on the foreheads is common practice in Broadway/off-Broadway/Summer stock theatre. It may look obnoxious, but there’s many reasons behind it.
That's what you'll see on every professional stage. Bear in mind the audience are nowhere near as close as the camera is getting so the mics won't be visible.
The acting is really good in this production. I'm surprised to find out it is from a high school. My high school was known for its musicals in my region, but the acting definitely wasn't this good.
The mics are standard practice in musical theatre, you just don't normally see them as audiences are nowhere near as close as this camera is bringing you.
For the people who are full of criticism why do you waste your time and energy. This is an amateur performance. If it was Broadway one might wonder.

as a teen who does both theater clubs at my school (I'm at an all girls high, we have our own drama club, and our sister school (boys school) has their own, which we are allowed to participate in), it's so annoying how many boys do the boys' school club just to be with girls. every time we do a major musical we have about 5-7 boys, and 15-25 girls. its like... why do we bring up boys to feel as though theater is for girls/queer people??? its a fun way to express yourself, and get to know yourself and others better...
It is free. Awesome!
this has to be watched more than once to appreciate saw it live still one of my favs.... superbly performed and clever
Very talented cast..I didn't even realize this was a HS production..awesome production!! 😊🎉🎉
I'm totally blown away by EVERYONE'S talent on this show!!! Congrats on a great show you guys!
A high school production ??? These kids are AWESOME !!! Great job...
But everything else was pretty damn good.
damn... for a high school, this is amazing. great job.
Bloody good for school, especially the singing.
With that sasid do not think my high school could have ever pulled it off
If you were talking about the girl stretching at the piano at 3:10 I'm pretty sure she's too tall.
This is just my opinion. I do not know any of these young and talented people. I think the reason they made Connie white was because that little girl who played her is the single best dancer in the production and it would have been a waste of her talent not to use her in one of the featured roles.
Dancing ability, I imagine.
Thank you for uploading these! :D
Coming from an expert who worked in the theater at the revival a decade ago- this isn’t bad.
That was definitely One Singular Sensation!
I wasn’t watching at first-just listening. I started watching when Mark Anthony introduced himself and I was like ‘WHAT THESE ARE KIDS?’
The kid playing Mark is so good!
I was about to jump on and criticize until the comments made clear that this was a high school production. They really should make that clear. I had thought it a professional production which was woefully miscast. I was wrong and am humbled for the comments that were going through my head.
High school? The hell you say. The band ain't bad either. Shit hot, in fact.
They are doing a remarkable job for creative arts students. Amazing. The show makes zero sense unless they are professional dancers though. It just doesn't. There are so many brilliant musicals for singer/dancer/actors that can fully cater to a young talented cast but this is not one of them.
Excellent Job!! They pulled off a difficult feat!
Absolutely amazing
tennessee williams once said words to the effect that theater in its most humble setting is closest to the truth.
That was so great! Andres did an especially good job playing Paul.
Good job for a school - difficult show to put on
Blown away!!!
I enjoyed this very much...good production!
I always find it funny when high schools put on ACL. Especially when they start singing Hello 12, hello 13...and that's their actual age.
import26 high schoolers aren't 12 and 13.....
My point is that the lyrics are meant for much older adults to look back at their first sexual encounters and puberty. Most of these performers are in the middle of that to be singing like they remember "how it was". This show's themes are nothing they have experienced yet.
Really good. This had great energy and a lot of professionalism. Excellent!
Great performance! I wish the ads didn't keep interrupting it.
Estupendo musical
GREAT...!!!. THANKS AT LOT....!!!.
i’m wondering....for a highschool how they’re gonna do dance ten looks three 🤨
HIGH SCHOOL PRODUCTION??? HOW??????
Very nice. Didn't realize they were high schoolers!!!!
Awesome Congratulations! 😃
MARK IS SOO CUTE OMG
Did anyone else think that the girl who played Morales looks exactly like Gabrielle Ruiz from Crazy Ex Girlfriend??
This is highschool omg so great. Lol @ the mics taped on there heads though.
Great job, especially for high school kids!
Nice job but how old is the kid playing Mark??
I think he was a sophomore at the time, so 15ish! (I did follow-spot for this show ;p)
He's good. I am just surprised he school let a student that age sing those lyrics. Very progressive place!
@@cocokaos do you what year this production took place please?
karoline smith 2014!
37:00 she’s CATCHING A TRAIN what the heck
TWO acts and a man bun...My-Oh, My!
Michael Carrasco this was a great show I think
Why are the mics on their foreheads?
Emma Rose Some productions do that. At my school, they were hooked around the ear. However, they were still noticeable.
Mics on foreheads is pretty common
You don't watch many Broadway musicals, do you?!
This is NOT Broadway? These guys are good!
Wonderful!!!
Okay, the mics are ridiculous, but it wasn't that bad for a hs production! And can we just appreciate the casting director's booty and man bun! Hahaha
The mics are standard practice in musical theatre, you just don't normally see them as audiences are nowhere near as close as this camera is bringing you.
Can I ask plz what are those beads on their forehead for? Xoxo
+L J Those are their mics.
+Ian McIntosh oo oh Lol I thought they were all East Indian with beads on their foreheads...thx Xoxo
Mark was sooooo good
This just screams the 70s....
