PERFECT!! I also had the Explorer File Search problem because of the Windows 10 1909 Update. After uninstalling -- everything is working again. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
Thank you! The solution for me was to go into View in File Explorer, select Options, then "Change Folder And Search Options." from this window, select the Search tab, and make sure all boxes are ticked. It doesn't make sense, but it fixed the problem and now i can search within my folders again.
That "No items match your search" message is what made me punch my HP Windows 10 laptop screen in frustration and made me break it all because microsoft kept using the same shit over and over again for 15 years since Vista.
Sometimes, search box wont work on even in a fresh install on my PC ... what I do is going to Task Manager and restart Windows Explorer, after that, everything is ok. (Windows 10 1909)
wow you wasn't kidding when you said you had to go through lots of steps to fix your search box. Also got to love youtube, you can make a few hours look like 14 minutes haha, pulling your leg. Great video, if this ever happens to me this will be very helpful. Thanks side note, got to love a monday.com advert from UA-cam on a Saturday haha
Thanks for the useful video. I've was having this issue a lot and I kept having to close everything, log out, and back in again. This got very annoying until it for some reason disabled the new search box and went back to the old one, even though I'm running 1909 with all the latest updates. The good thing about this is that I'm no longer having the issue I was having before.
it's different for me, search does work normally but it doesn't show all of the files with the name, the only way to show all of the files is if I turn off index search but it slows search down! please help me!
It will be helpful in future some day. You know 'Window 10 = Problem'. Thanks, Man. Can you make a video on solving Blue screen errors while reboots. I guess they occurs due to Graphics' problems????
My issue is the search bar in the bottom left. I can click on it and type something, but I cannot click inside the window once programs files etc are found. Should this be the fix for my issue too? I'm trying this out and not getting any joy.
my file explorer keeps searching up thing without me doing anything . i installed something and that might have been the problem please help i cant even click anything in the file explorer . i delleted the thing i dowloaded but that didnt help . maybe you can help me
After trying these proposed solutions discovered that problem in my case was the result of cloning a drive, which confuses Windows as to which one to use. This video gave me the first clue when I ran Indexing Options and discovered that my "C" drive was showing up as "E" (which was the clone source drive). Anyway, found a solution on the Microsoft forum under topic titled "Windows 10 indexing selects wrong drive". Ran, in Command window as Administrator: del "E:\System Volume Information\IndexerVolumeGuid" (where E contained the original Windows installation that was cloned to the C drive). Fixed.
BROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO THANK U I SUBCRIBED AND LIKED IM GONNA SAVE THIS IN MY WATCH LATER IN FUTURE THIS MIGHT HELP ME I CANT THANK U ENOUGH
This worked for me (after having watched a number of these videos). 1. Click File Explorer icon on task bar. 2. Enter a search in little cell at top right. 3. When search turns up nothing, notice new tab at top of the window "Search Tools". It will be beside "View". 4. Click that tab, and select "All subfolders". 5. On the same tab, more to the right, click "Advanced options". Make sure "File contents" is selected as well as "System files". My searches turned up nothing because "File contents" wasn't selected.
Is it ok to use a 20 pin 2 to 24 pin adaptor on a motherboard that takes a 24 pin I have a dead PC but I need to test the power supply by using a lower voltage power supply 300w and the other one is 500 but need to use an adaptor
I found that in Task Manager, there are Explorer functions running (but not working right) way down below towards the bottom of the list of services - in addition to the main Explorer listed on top. It's the ones on the bottom that I clicked on and hit "Restart" that fixes that annoying new "feature". On top it's listed as an App, but it's the Background Process, below, that is key.
sadly Cortana isnt showing uo in my situation I really don't know whats going on :/ And I can also not search in my search bar in the left bottom corner so I could not follow half of the steps here.
Mine's working on the Main HD on the PC, but recently doesn't work on the External drives. It just says "No items match your search", when I search ANYTHING on the externals, even though the searched items obviously do exist & it was previously working until recently. I'll try your instructions here in a bit later tonight. Thanks for the instructions either way, hopefully it'll sort it.
Add another fix to your list: do not disable the service "Task Scheduler" ! ! ! I was so frustrated. I tried all your fixes to no avail until i found out i disabled the scheduler.
@@matteo4908 right click on Start > Comp. Management > Services and Apps > Expend it then double click on Services. That should list all your services. Look for 'Task Scheduler". Double click it and enable it and set it to autostart. Hope that helps
By the way, the search does not work at all and I am using version 1909. Plus file explorer has too much eye candy. This may sound strange, but earlier versions of explorer were much better.
Personally I never use Search in File Explorer even in WIndows7 I use VoidTools Everything to search for files. A heck of a lot faster than Windows search. There is also UltraSearch from JamSoftware. It allows searching for filenames as well as inside of files as wekk
MICROSOFT NEWS - Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 19546 "We fixed an issue where pressing *Spatial Sound -> Off in the sound menu caused Explorer.exe to crash."*
Does some one know or how i can make it stop refreshing or restarting the search everytime it looses focus. So for example i have 2 windows, ill do a search in on window and let it run and get results, that all works fine. Now ill focus on that second window browser through some folders and return to that other window. Why does it restart the search and clears all the results? THis is really counter intuitive, its making me go nuts
I've found the best thing to do with Windows 10 is create multiple image backups. I store up to 5 images just in case 10 goes bonkers after an update. Before that I only did a image backup for Win7 once every other month, now they are weekly done LOL Acronis or Macrium Reflect do the job just fine.
I tried everything and I still cant search anything :( Only thing I did before this issue was that I renamed the search.exe file because I didnt want it on my task manager and now it stopped searching
You just copy everyone who did this before NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN - NOT FIXING ! Even in 1903(or depends of build version ) it's the same problem, works for a while then suddenly stops (right-click for PASTE or Copy does not work either)
In my case both file explorer nor start menu search didn’t work. I found out that CTF Loader wasn’t working on startup. I created shortcut of CTF Loader and put it on startup folder. %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
Windows is so over complex. Really i have a 20 year old Mac here in front of me. Never had problems like often described on this channel. Now i'm not want to sound as a fanboy or something. I have been a system administrator for Windows 20 years. Stopped working in 2012. At home i mostly ran FreeBSD and Linux and then bought a Mac. Never looked back. Yeah i can run some OS systems in virtualization software. Don't use that very often anymore. Anyway thanks for the video. Can be very informative for people running into this particular problem.
Beginning was good, change this and test, then you provided a string of steps with no confirmation if issue was resolved or still exist. Then you jump to 1909 update. At that point I am like this should have been first. Uninstall 1909 and if that doesn't fix the problem (which it will) you can try this exhaustive list of Windows 10 navigation that are probably a waste of time. More times than not if someone has you jumping all over the place or doing registry edits and command prompt admin or powershell admin tweaks simply move on and find someone who keeps it simple. Rarely are complicated fixes or applying multiple changes in a shotgun approach needed. And even worse, now you have no clue as to what may have made a difference and what needs to be undone. Appreciate the video, but not the kitchen sink approach.
For starters older computers and even a few new motherboards have issues with hibernate and that might be what is happening to you. Instead use sleep, make sure hibernate is disabled and I bet that will solve your problem. If you really have an issue with sleep its not Windows sleep mode thats the problem and you should look at your hardware or something else causing it to hang. Of course this is only my experience but I have built more than a 100 systems with 10, so I do have a solid baseline of systems that give me that information.
