Literally saved my life right here, I have never worked on cars before in my life really, and now I am doing a full rebuild with a d15b block and d16y8 head and I had no idea what to do so thank you for this great information!!
Hey Glad to hear it was helpful! Is it a b7 block? If it isn't just make sure you don't order the timing belt parts that I used lol they will be different since I used Z6 head and a b7 block (I believe)
Had no idea this was a thing. Bought my 92 for $600 a few years back and wanting to do some upgrades on it now. I think I'll be adding this to my to-do list for the car. Thanks!
Awesome video. I'm in the same situation. I picked up a 95 Civic EJ2 (coupe) with a d15b7 for $1000. The clutch was cooked so I got a new one. It sounds like the water pump and timing belt tensioner need some attention so I'm thinking of doing a mini me swap. The body is in really good condition so definitely not bailing on it. This video answered alot of questions. Thanks!
Idk if you looked this up but the d16y8 intake manifold works better and bolts right up. Bigger runners and chamber and you can port match it to the head for better air flow. I did this same thing but i didn't use the z6 head. You can also use the y8 head as well
I'm buying a super clean white eg hatch with d16y7 with z6 headers for $2500, or include a s300 ECU for another 800 for tuneability. I just pulled the following for $333: z6 head, wiring harness, intake manifold, IACV, and throttle botty (to sell), OEM Honda distributor, fuel rail, and exhaust manifold. Already had the same gasket (you have a gasket now you have to buy a car that uses the gasket!)
have a 90 dx hatch d15b2 + auto trans. did a 5 speed Si trans + z6 head (plus machined block + head, arp studs and VMS racing timing gear) with tuning on probably 10.1 compression i make 130whp and 110tq. also revs out to 7800 still gets 34mpg fuckin mint might make a vid soon
Awesome! I just got rods and Vitara pistons. Grabbed a $50 engine off of marketplace and machine work just got finished. Sounds like we're on the same path

Long time ls guy here, but I just picked up 91 civic sedan 5 speed and I’m really impressed with all the ways you can swap parts on these little engines! Could you do this swap on a D15B2?
Welcome! They're like junkyard Legos just like LS, you can absolutely do this swap on the D15b2. If you are used to driving fast cars though, you might just want to do pistons and rods and a big turbo along with the VTEC head lol
@@RiggsGarage wonder how well it would it would hold up to a 50 wet shot? That would be the icing on the cake after the head swap. Bought a z6 head earlier from a buddy that’s doing a k24 swap on his hatch.
Where do you think is a happy medium? I like my gas mileage and enjoy the driving experience but performance wise it’s lacking for me a bit. I hav a fully stock 97 CX D16 but would atleast like to add just a little bit more pep to it 😅
Hey I know this is old but I have a d15b7/z6 in the 1992 Honda Civic dx it ran fine for a while but then I drove it and it was bogging down and now I can’t get it to start back up I got a new distributor, fuses are good, new fuel pump and relay, rewired vtec, timing is perfect and I don’t see really any vacuum leaks I’m so lost at this point done spent more money trying to get it to start again then the actual swap lol
Great vid! Quick question though. Is the process the same for a d16y7 block? I’m trying to get some vtec in my bad boy but haven’t really gotten the confidence to rip into her yet 😅
Hi there, thanks for watching! It is super similar. There are a few places that might be different, I would recommend finding a build thread where somebody does exactly what you were looking to do. Some differences might be head bolt lengths since you have a different block and are probably using a Y8 head? Cam gear, which timing belt to use. Otherwise I think it will be pretty much the same project
Thanks for the tip. I would like swap for b18c, but is a lot money comparing with mini me 😂. I'm looking for a good refurbished. $ 750 😢 Lets see what i can do. Thanks again. 👍🏻
@@RiggsGarage 90-91 best model year. I’m also painting the EF Nardo. Crazy thing is in Vancouver a paint job costs $4800. But the farther east you go the cheaper it gets. @@realitycheck3672 nice! I'm also hoping to paint mine next year, well this year now. Looking to spend under $1000 doing most of the prep myself and an expert friend shooting in his booth, but $1800 is great if they are doing prep and all the work

Really good informational video I wish there was more out there on more Honda Motors like this I'm trying to find a good video that explains in h2b swap on an eg 😂
hello friend congratulations for that beautiful project. I made a minime with a d15b2 block and a d16z6 cylinder head and I had good results but I put the injectors from the d14 a4 that I had in the previous engine. I have problems with engine piston. Do you think it is necessary to place some injectors of more volume? Thank you
Hi Omar, thanks for the kind words. What problems do you have with the piston? What computer are you using? I would make sure the injectors, the computer, and the head / intake swap all match up. For example, my computer, injectors, and head are all from the same swap. 240cc injectors, Z6 head, P28 computer. Hopefully this helps you, let me know
Keep looking, you'll eventually find a sweet bundle deal like I found. Make sure you can get the head with matching distributor and valve cover, and a better intake manifold than the B7 is definitely recommended too. Good luck!
Good vid doing the same build lmao didn’t know people still do mini me in 2021 anyways I got a question if. I port and polish the b7 manifold will it be as good as a z6 or better ?
Good question, but I think you'd have to take a ton of material out of the B7 manifold. As part of the project I did set the Z6 and B7 intake manifold side by side and the Z6 has significantly fatter intake runners. I would go to Pick-N-Pull and grab a D16Y8 intake manifold, they're dyno proven the best and are available for cheap
I have read mixed things on the forums about d16z7 NOT working with the obd0 ecu as the teeth are different, and even if the wiring is identical/correct, it will still not function properly. My curiosity is if this did indeed work for you? I would love to be able to run the d16z7 dizzy on the d16z7 head that will be installed on the obd0 (pm6 ecu) d15b7 block. thank you for your input friend!
It did work for me, but my combo is different than yours. Mine is a D15B7 bottom end, d16z6 VTEC head, OBD1 p72 ECU. Worked for me. This swap is okay depending on your goals. It takes a slow car and makes it a little zippier. If you want to go fast, mix the swap with boost
I have a ‘96 EJ8 w/mini me D15b w/D16Y8 head uses the timing belt from my y8 with no issue also have the adjustable sprocket and only needed to use the alternator belt of a D15B. It’s a nice lil combo and my Vtec cracks the block already had the oil jet removed as it is required for the good’ol Vtec Now in all seriousness what would be the best trans to use for the mini me?
From what I've read the best ratios are in the EX and SI transmissions, I am currently looking for one as well! It gets rid of the tall first and second gears that make your acceleration really slow with a DX transmission
Good question - read this thread I posted above and see of you get the same thing I got when I read it (it's well written, but kind of confusing) - he says z6 head use a y8 gear and advance belt 1 tooth. This is why I got the adjustable for $50 and I can mess with it without having to swap gears and take belt on and off. The $50 is worth it to me to save hours of messing around, plus finding a different gear that I don't have. www.d-series.org/threads/how-to-mechanically-time-a-mini-me-swap-other-mini-me-info.166652/
If you're putting a z6 head on a d15b block (except for the JDM D15b vtec one), then you need either the adjustable cam gear or the y8 cam gear and advance a tooth. The z6 head on a d16y block reuses the z6 cam gear - and all of the z6 timing components. I'm currently running z6 head/y8 block in my hatch.
Ik this is old and you may not see this but could you make a video to touch on the topic of the timing advancement from the deck height it’s kinda hard to find and I think a video on it with the d15 mini me z6 head tutorial send me 7% process 🥸😂
Likely, I haven't looked into it. Honda is like Legos though, just need to work out the details like what gaskets and head bolts to use. Generally you use the same timing kit as the short block. Thanks for watching!
Bro i was going to ask you what you think that set up with a 272 cam head bore mild and no vtec at all all motor i know the compression will be around 10.1-5 probably and probably with lighter flywheel gd clutch and 2 in free flow exhaust system should be a nice i think the d15b2 will wake up big time and be fast on a crx and the reason for no VTEC becouse the cam will be pulling hard hard from 2500 or 3000 rpm on what you think
@@RiggsGarage yeap is peppy amigo I I build it no long ago with y8 head gasket and po8-3 head and 272 Delta cam regrind 10 pound flywheel stage 2 clutch kit plus I let the pmg-fi system duel point and I can tell you the sound is beautiful I took her to 7200 rpm no gas problem pull gd better than a Weber carb plus I made adjustments to the distributor I think I'm around 10.1 to 11.1 compression peppy like hell in mid rpm it becomes a beast real fast amigo 3 gear 100 miles a hr and still have rpm left what happened is that the segundary manifold runner is shorter than the primary in the pgm-fi perfect for higher rpm but the sound of the cam is unbelievable nice like a old school v8 mustang nice people are wrong about the pmg-fi is a Weber carb with out the bowl or float and work nice on high compression amigo thanks
@@RiggsGarage I bet my CRX with a small 4 barrel EFI system will be something else for what it is and such system can be found in junkyards and can be done with a carb adapter will be something new with bigger cam and springs and retainers really it can be done to really jjjj 😁
I haven't really noticed a change, however it still has the wrong computer, I'm driving the car differently and less since covid has affected my commuting. So I can't really answer the question accurately haha
I have a d15b with 260,000 miles and the head gasket went, so I put a new gasket on with a d16z6 head. I just filled up today and got 37.77 mpg. Stock the best I got was 36mpg. But I did also rebuild my transmission at the same time.
How much horsepower do you think you gained from the mini me? Im considering doing this but Im not sure if it's worth it (in the Netherlands a turbo kit is way to expensive so this is the only way to get like a (big?) bump in power
Hi, thanks for the comment. Realistically probably about 20 horsepower without a tune, but I'm not even seeing that yet because I'm not running the VTEC computer to kick in VTech and give this thing a more aggressive fuel map. I just bought the computer yesterday though so I should have it up soon. That said, an extra 20 or 30 horsepower and a 2000 lb car is a noticeable thing. and it's using all Honda parts so it probably won't fall apart if you do it right haha.
Hey what’s up bro I got a mini swap as well with a D16y7 and d16z6 head Been having some issues with and really found out I been run the car with a p75 auto ecu I have a p2p a34 ecu and was wondering if I can run my car with that ecu
I’m doing b7/z6 mini me as well, I’m about a grand in parts not including car price. I’ve got everything set to go, but was wondering if you would happen to know the size of the transmission mount bolts (the 3 of them), and post mount nuts size? That’s about all that’s keeping me from dropping in. Good informative video, love the setup brother!
I have a quick question i have a jdm d15b with z6 head, im still not sure if i need the y8 cam cause apparently i have the obd1 d15b block which u dont need the y8 cam but im not 100% sure?! I have the distributor is fully advanced and the ignition timing is in the negatives
So there are some differences here - My video is about the D15B7 bottom end, which has a different deck height than the D15b or the D16 that requires a different cam wheel. If you have the D15b JDM engine bottom end, it came with the Z6 head (same casting number), so all you need to do is use the same cam gear that came on the D15b setup (or an adjustable cam gear). Sounds like you may just be a tooth off in your case, because the D15b has the Z6 head from the factory, so timing should be right on. Make sense?
I am going to do exactly the same thing, but according to you experience. So i won’t able to use the same distributor from the d15? Engine? What about intake and exhaust manifold? Where are you located? I Might need your help for this
Hey man, I recently got my swap running d15b7 block Z6 head. Everything was timed correctly and valve lash was set properly but it smelled really bad, I assume this has to do with the timing problem because of the deck height. Fortunately I also have a VMS cam gear on my swap, I was wondering if I would advance it or not and how much to advance it to. I’m also running a P28 base map.
Smell, not sure if that's anything to do with timing. You'll need to mechanically time it with a timing light. That's when you'll advance or retard the vms cam gear (if any). Is it running strong now?
Do you mean do you need to swap transmissions to do this? You do not need a swap transmissions. What I covered was if you have an auto transmission, you need to make sure you have an auto transmission ECU. Vice versa, if you have a manual transmission, you need a manual transmission ECU. Is that what you mean?
Got a question maybe you’ll know. Currently putting a mini me swap it’s a ob1 distributor but I have an ob2 ecu and harness any idea how to wire up or make the distributor work with the ob2 harness
Great build and video! Doing this build to! Almost have all the parts, hopefully be done by end of may 2022! Quick question, did you reuse the b7 head bolts or get new ones?
@@RiggsGarage ok nice! Saw the video , wish I had time and space to do that! I just got ahold of some arp studs, used but good condition. They are very hard to find. Thanks again for they reply man , good luck with the build! 👍🏼
How you doing boss, quick question, . I have a d15b7 block and i plan on doing the mini me head to the motor. Using a d16z6 head. Now on the d15b7 motor, i noticed that the crank pulley does not have the pulley to run power steering. although the d16z6 crank pulley can run power steering.. My question is about swapping the crank pulley. the d16z6 crank bolt is 19mm socket, and the d15b7 crank bolt is 17mm. Is it possible to put the d16z6 crank pulley on the d15b7 block that way i can run power steering. I've looked but cannot find the info.
That's a great question, I am 98.41% sure they will interchange, however they are different weights. I'm not sure if the balance is different, that could jack some stuff up if the balance is different. I would do some deep digging on d-series.org forums, the sacred texts 😂
@@RiggsGarage hahaha 98.41%, thats funny. I still couldn't find the exact info but I heard people say that d16y8 pulley will work fine and is actually better anyway as the y8 pulley is an actual harmonic balancer compared to the other d series pulleys, that aren't harmonic. Thank you for the reply!
Wouldn’t it be smarter to just get the complete VTEC single cam motor to begin with? Seems like a lot of headache when you can probably go to the junkyard and pull one out of a Civic EX
That's definitely an option. The word smarter would be applicable in some situations. Junkyard motors are iffy unless you're buying one with a warranty that's been checked out and inspected that came out of a wrecked running car. Then it costs more than the mini me swap. If you had a really clean d-15 short block that is not worn out like mine, you can grab a VTec head for $100 to $200, and slap it on in an afternoon while you're doing a timing belt job. Much easier for the average Joe who doesn't have time or tools for an engine swap. But I would agree that a d16 z6 would be preferred, especially since 99% of the guys that do the mini me swap feel how much power it adds and instantly want a turbo lol. Thanks for watching!
@@RiggsGarage you having to source the intake manifold, TB, ECU, Distributor, etc. I figured might as well just get a complete motor. Not sure where you’re from but over here in California I see the single cam VTEC motors often at junkyards. Most engines live normal commuting lives. I guess since it’s so commonplace here that’s probably why I would get a complete motor. That may not be the case where you’re from. Keep up the vids. Always good to hear what Honda hotrodders are up to
@@kenxiong6830 that sounds great! Thanks for the encouragement. I'm actually looking for a full z6 swap right now since they can take more abuse on the stock rods pistons and crankshaft. I agree, most of them lived a normal commuter life. If the junkyard car has stick on air vents, dragon stickers, a body kit, and a shiny shift knob, I would run though lol
@@RiggsGarage yeah those are the dead giveaways that it’s probably not a motor you’d want. I once did a H22A into a CRX. Holy shit it was fast. Blew the doors off a lot of people lol

There are several big JDM engine importers around the country that will ship you a low mile engine from Japan on a pallet that you can just bolt in. I would just Google JDM engine importer, usually pretty good prices. Then you can grab a D15B or some other higher performance engine that will bolt right in where yours is

Check out the link to the forum thread I put in the description and see if that helps you. Let me know what you decide!
Not sure. In theory, there is no reason why they would unless cam timing is way off and pistons hit valves. You could put it on there and add modeling clay on the piston, time it, make sure it's ok
Need a little insight if you don't mind.... I recently bought a 97 EJ6 "EK" hatchback. The guy I bought it from Only knew that it was a jdm d15b. When checking it out seen the p2e ecu along with a top mounted TB on a older intake manifold and assumed it was any old non VTEC d15b. Got it home and realized the head is a p2j-6 "97" y8. Last 3 owners have dailyed this car on the exact setup. (Guessing 2-3 years as last guy said he's been daily driving it for a year) Do you think it was purposely setup like this for a reason Im just not understanding/ or comprehending? Or do you think it was just thrown together good enough to get it driving and passed on to the next guy? Also would it be worth trying to save the cluster fuck of unhooked wires and plugged hoses with a proper intake and chipped ecu? Or just pull everything and start my own build once this one pops? SORRY I KNOW IM ASKING A LOT!!! But any insight or knowledge you could pass along would be greatly appreciated!!!!
What does the block say? D15B? That plus the y8 head would be solid Might see what intake is there, I'd grab a y8 throttle body and intake from the yard and use that if it has a top mount intake (y7?)

Dang that's no fun, when I slipped a timing belt on my B7 head the valves all looked good, but several were bent when they were pulled out of the head and rolled on a flat surface. I'd recommend pulling all the valves out, rolling each one, and replacing the bent ones, then reseating them. Hey i have a 95 si with blown bottom end, i have a d15b7 bottom end, just wondering if there is a way for the engine to run without the adjustable cam gear. would i be able to run it at all maybe without vtec until i get an adjustable gear.
Hey man just had another question. Need some help on how you did the timing? I read the Honda forum write up but it’s a bit confusing. I bought the same vms cam gear and belt.
Yeah that is confusing. So basically you need to make sure your mechanical timing is showing the timing marks correctly on the harmonic balancer when you're using your timing light. My adjustible cam gear is at 5 degrees retarded to accomplish this. Distributor is right in the middle. This may be because I might be a tooth off and could be different on your engine.
@@RiggsGarage so basically everything at tdc like a regular timing belt change. And retard the cam gear to 5 and make sure the harmonic balancer is aligned?
I used a z6 timing belt and used the 7 o'clock mark on a factory z6 cam gear. Time it the same way as a z6 just make sure ur using the same water pump for that block. I found that certain ones have more or less teeth
@@RiggsGarage no check engine and when I put my stock intake manifold back on it went back to normal but you can look at my channel I posted a short video of what was going on

Sounds like there's a lot going on here, I probably can't be too much help. If it's not making boost, then there could be a boost leak or your wastegate is open. Is it throwing any codes?
There is more to it than what is it my videofor that engine. You can run the head. However that is an OBD0 engine, that is not multi-point fuel injection engine. Also the z6 head uses an OBD1 distributor. So you will need to convert the engine to multi-point fuel injection and convert it to OBD1 and run a VTEC p28 computer. There is some additional wiring and stuff to do but it is very possible
I’m seriously considering doing this to my 94’ EG sedan. Hopefully do a manual swap while everything is out and boosting it. What transmission would you recommend for this? I’m a Toyota guy so Honda’s are kinda new to me haha
If you don't have a transmission yet, people usually recommend an SI or an EX transmission, they have shorter gears and more zip. I have the DX transmission which is excellent for commuting because I can go down the highway at low RPMs.
Wait.. but z6 is VTEC-E, which stands for econom, so it's not about power.. I have d15z6 civic. It adds mpg on lower loads, but it does not add power on high rev as VTEC does
I swear I put that in the video but I just watched it again and it's not there, check the link to the comprehensive Mini-Me thread in the description of the video. You just basically remove the oil restrictor that sits in the block when you have the head off. That allows full oil flow to the VTEC solenoid. That's frustrating, I remember filming that even and I thought I put that in there

Thanks, hope you enjoyed
Long time ls guy here, but I just picked up 91 civic sedan 5 speed and I’m really impressed with all the ways you can swap parts on these little engines! Could you do this swap on a D15B2?
Welcome! They're like junkyard Legos just like LS, you can absolutely do this swap on the D15b2. If you are used to driving fast cars though, you might just want to do pistons and rods and a big turbo along with the VTEC head lol
@@RiggsGarage this is just my little gas saver! Well hold off on make it fast for a while!
@@KapenW17 that's where I am, I have the pistons and rods to build it mean, but I'm liking the gas mileage and reliability
Lets see what i can do. Thanks again. 👍🏻

hello friend congratulations for that beautiful project.
Hopefully this helps you, let me know
This was a big help.. and will I need a different crankshaft for d16 rods and pistons?
Hi, glad it was helpful. In this configuration, you run all stock bottom end, just the d15 block, rods, pistons, crank, Z6 head only.
Great video bro. Thanks for the info. I plan on doing this exact swap myself
You're welcome. Thanks for the kind words!
Desperately trying to find these parts to start working on my 93 Honda dx 🤣

Now in all seriousness what would be the best trans to use for the mini me?
From what I've read the best ratios are in the EX and SI transmissions, I am currently looking for one as well! It gets rid of the tall first and second gears that make your acceleration really slow with a DX transmission

Are you able to use the stock z6 cam gear with the head when doing the mini me ? Or is it mandatory for adjustable cam gear
Yes You can
If you're putting a z6 head on a d15b block (except for the JDM D15b vtec one), then you need either the adjustable cam gear or the y8 cam gear and advance a tooth. The z6 head on a d16y block reuses the z6 cam gear - and all of the z6 timing components. I'm currently running z6 head/y8 block in my hatch.
Cómo hicistes para poner a tiempo tu motor, tengo un d15b2 con cabeza z6 y no puedo ponerlo a tiempo, gracias
Ik this is old and you may not see this but could you make a video to touch on the topic of the timing advancement from the deck height it’s kinda hard to find and I think a video on it with the d15 mini me z6 head tutorial send me 7% process 🥸😂
Can I do a d16y7 bottom end and a d16y8 vtec head ??
Pretty sure yes you can, may be slight differences from my B7/Z6 combination though.
I'm guessing you can also do a mini me swap with a d15z6 VTEC e right?

I bet it will be pretty darn peppy and reliable
I don't think fast would be the word, but it would be fun

I haven't really noticed a change, however it still has the wrong computer, I'm driving the car differently and less since covid has affected my commuting. So I can't really answer the question accurately haha
I have a d15b with 260,000 miles and the head gasket went, so I put a new gasket on with a d16z6 head. I just filled up today and got 37.77 mpg. Stock the best I got was 36mpg. But I did also rebuild my transmission at the same time.
@@brandonhill88did you use a z6 belt and cam gear? I have a 40k d15b block and I'm trying to get a z6 head on but it won't stay in time and start
What about the oiling system for the VTEC
I covered that in the video, you just need to remove the oil restrictor so if you VTEC gets full flow
Hey what’s up bro I got a mini swap as well with a
D16y7 and d16z6 head

I honestly don't know on that one, plug it in and test?
I’m doing b7/z6 mini me as well, I’m about a grand in parts not including car price. I’ve got everything set to go, but was wondering if you would happen to know the size of the transmission mount bolts (the 3 of them), and post mount nuts size? That’s about all that’s keeping me from dropping in. Good informative video, love the setup brother!
Sounds fun! I'll need to double check but I would think 14 mm for the transmission mounts
@@RiggsGarage yeah they’re the same thread as the transmission bolts themselves, and about half the size I believe.

Might need your help for this
Intake and exhaust will swap over, you will need to use the distributor that goes with the head.
I'm doing the same exact mini me. I'm trying to figure out if the vacuum lines are all ran the same as the the d16?
Pretty much the same, I changed nothing on this swap
Yo do you know a thread or some guida to do the same thing on a d14
I don't, probably search dseries.org forums, I bet there is something there. Thanks for watching!
I thought it was called an LS/Vtec.
Non VTEC bottom/VTEC head. Or is that just for the B18?
LS VTEC is referring to B series, correct
You might have said already but do I need vtech manual transmison if I do this to my 2000 Lx manual ?
Do you mean do you need to swap transmissions to do this? You do not need a swap transmissions. What I covered was if you have an auto transmission, you need to make sure you have an auto transmission ECU. Vice versa, if you have a manual transmission, you need a manual transmission ECU. Is that what you mean?
Is the crankshaft gear the same for the d16z6 and d15b7?
Not the factory ones, they are clocked differently. The aftermarket adjustable gears work for both engines fine.
Got a question maybe you’ll know. Currently putting a mini me swap it’s a ob1 distributor but I have an ob2 ecu and harness any idea how to wire up or make the distributor work with the ob2 harness
Same problem did you ever resolve ?
Great build and video! Doing this build to! Almost have all the parts, hopefully be done by end of may 2022!

I thought you had to use the z6 timing belt and not the b7 one?
It's been a few years, but I have the timing belt part number in the video description if you need it. Still running it 💪
Wouldn’t it be smarter to just get the complete VTEC single cam motor to begin with?
@@kenxiong6830 that sounds great! Thanks for the encouragement. I'm actually looking for a full z6 swap right now since they can take more abuse on the stock rods pistons and crankshaft.

@@RiggsGarage awesome thanks!
Wait.. but z6 is VTEC-E, which stands for econom, so it's not about power.. I have d15z6 civic. It adds mpg on lower loads, but it does not add power on high rev as VTEC does
D16Z6 is the performance engine from the SI, it is not the "E" economy engine, although you can definitely get great fuel economy from a z6
I'm doing the exact thing to my car buy I must have broke a ring while installing it cause it lags around 3k rpm and it smokes too
Broke a piston ring?
Do I use head bolts for a b7 or z6? Or are they the same?
Same. B7 bolts used to bolt down the Z6 head perfect
Does this work on D15Z8? They’re “VTEC” but not for performance😂
I do not know the answer to that question. I haven't messed with the z8 before
Pure inspiration bro
Do it! Thanks for watching 👌
What about the motor mounts
Stock is ok, use whatever you want. Still has the power of a factory Honda engine, you don't need aftermarket unless you want it
I'm gonna be doing this but with a y8 head
Have fun, those are great heads👌
can i do this swap on a d14a3 motor and what heads should they fit?
I'm not familiar with that engine, I would recommend you find somebody who did exactly what you're doing and copy their recipe. Thank you for watching
How did you do the oil feed to the vtec
I swear I put that in the video but I just watched it again and it's not there, check the link to the comprehensive Mini-Me thread in the description of the video. You just basically remove the oil restrictor that sits in the block when you have the head off. That allows full oil flow to the VTEC solenoid. That's frustrating, I remember filming that even and I thought I put that in there
what gas were you running after the swap on the stock p28?
Seems to do fine on 89. Compression is 10.5:1 or so, but seems ok
I got a 1991 Honda Crx swapped with a d15b7 do I need a new computer if I get a vtec head swapp.
You will need an ECU that will run VTEC, like a P28, check out my video covering wiring VTEC for mini me swaps
@@RiggsGarage Alright man thank you 🙏
Awesome!
Where you located man I need help with my build
Kansas City
15z6 to 16z6 would be almost the same, right?
Yes
@@RiggsGarage
maybe you have experience with this maybe you dont.
will the d15z6 belt work with the d16z6 head? i know the d15z's are taller than normal, is it the same as the 16z6 tho?
@@geg5274 I'm not sure, I'd look at that Honda forum mini me post I linked to in the video description, it is pretty helpful for belt, head, and pulley combinations
@@RiggsGarage i didnt find anything on z to z mini me builds sadly
It I can’t get the vms cam gear what else can I uses
I would get a better one, AEM is what most people use. The really cheap ones are known to break a lot, be careful it's a disaster
Can it be any vtec head or just y8?
Any head really. Z6, y8, d15b etc
How can I contact you brother good video nice upgrades lmk I’d really appreciate you trying to fix up my del sol lmk
Shoot me a message on Instagram, it's been a few years but I could probably help
What’s your instagram and do you still own your del sol what year is it?
Anyone got an full parts list for an z6 head on y7 block mini me swap?
See the forum link I posted on the video description, should get you mostly there. Just need to determine what timing belt
@RiggsGarage thank you so much will do, appreciate the reply!
How much hp it give you to mini me swap the d16y7
Should get you about to the factory horsepower of the Y8 or the Z6 depending on the head and bottom end you use. Still slow, but fun slow lol
Will this work for a 91 hach
Yes, there will be slight differences in what head bolts to use depending on what head you use on the D15B1 / 2 whatever
Notice he said..... RELIABLE!!!!!
I've had the same b7-z6 mini me in my Civic forever.... Tuned it by Neptune and she still pulls as hard today as it did on day one.
Sounds fun! I'm building a short block with rods and vitaras, so my reliability is about to go away
Sounds like ur getting ready for a turbo..... Definitely be fun then. My old sohc was on 14 lbs n pulled on vettes on good days. IDK y ppl gotta knock on the H. They should build 1 😂
@@pjburcham5938 hey man, you said you’ve had a b7z6 mini me for a while, how did you do the the timing? I’ve read the forums but it’s a bit complicated. I have an adjustable cam gear too
@@pjburcham5938 one more question, what spark plugs do you use ?
How much hp on the tonka trucks?
Lol! Depends on which kid is sitting on it and how steep the hill is 🤣
@@RiggsGarage 🤣🤣
Would putting this head work on a non vtec D14?
Hey thanks for watching, I'm honestly not sure, d14 isn't really a thing around here, we are in the usdm market, that's a European market engine as far as I know
@@RiggsGarage righttt well thanks the response regardless 😊😊
