EVGA 2070 Super KO gang here!! I just love the card, but miss the backplate as well. Thought a lot about making a backplate myself, even made a couple of prototypes, but I was afraid of affecting the board thermals. I've being super careful with my GPU as I probably won't find another one (similar or better) to purchase anytime soon. Great video! Cheers!!
Thanks! Yeah I was thinking about that as well. It would be interesting to be able to machine a metal backplate to help with heat transfer but also not short out the card lol. would have to figure that out.
Thank you, and thank you for watching! Yeah you'd think a 500 buck gpu would have a backplate, but oh well. I had fun making it. I'll have to try for an led one at some point. I've got a case vid in the works. hope to get that up soon.
EVGA wanted to make a 2070 super and keep it at a 500$ price range and in order to do that there's a couple of things they help back on including the backplate. I own this card and it was an upgrade from a Gtx 1080 and I am very satisfied.
@@MiddleofKnowhere Yes but mostly because the 2000 series was much of an experiment and the price was very high for every card, so they're right on this one
I wish I had the ability to cut metal and such to do such a thing. I'd have to be more familiar with cad work and what not more than likely to make rased and sunk in parts for thermal pads and to ensure no metal makes contact with PCB creating a short. This is just a basic one.
@@MiddleofKnowhere I still appreciate the content. Just giving my perspective as an PC enthusiast interested in thermals... From cosmetic perpective, what you share is sleek and more readily available. From functionality perspective, it still offers premium protection. Take care and keep it up.
Bro I really enjoyed your video, so I just liked and subscribed. I too like yourself have a small PC Channel so I respect the hustle. I’ve done a few custom back plates as well and do it just like you. I like how you use clear coat too. Anyway, I did an X99 Build recently with a Star Wars rebel alliance theme and I feel like I did my best backplate yet. I’d be ho ores if you checked it out. Us small PC Tech guys gotta stick together!!! 😉 - Keep up the great work my man!!
I would go with yes, but I didn't buy anything special, just paint that could adhere to acrylic. Because it's on a layer of 2-sided tape, it won't touch anything, but yeah better safe than sorry.
That logo you designed is very clever. Did you spell it that way based on Marvel comics? Or was it more of a play on words, e.g., 'the know-how to do things'? Edit: Just noticed your shirt! I'm guessing it's because of Marvel lol
oh the logo on the backplate? It's a play on my channel name, "Middle of Knowhere," which is a play on words for "middle of nowhere," which is kinda where I live. :) I think the typeface I used is Myriad Pro which is just a nice clean san serif typeface I like. but yeah, using the map pin as the "O" for MoK was intentional since the intro I use is an animation with a map background. Thank you for watching!
@@MiddleofKnowhere my 3070 didn’t come with one and I’m the type of person that really needs everything to look good lol, so if I just lay it on top it’ll be perfectly fine?
so if it's like a plastic bag, no don't use that as a backplate. If it's like acrylic and hard, then score, cut to size and you should be okay. I just researched polyethylene sheets. if PMMA is more like acrylic, which it seems to be, you should be grand.
Bro can i ask you question because my GPU in my laptop is spitting like Ink i cam send u a picture but when i Switch to integrated hd graphics its fjne but i really need the dedicated gpu u know for light gaming hehe the specs is MSI CX420 intel i3 330m(1st gen) 2gb ram and HD 5470 (not a mobile version so im amazed)
Hi and thanks for watching. When I was using the PC with the GPU and backplate, I did notice it get warm/hot. However, GPU temps never got so high as to make it throttle. I'd say if you have concerns, you can always remove the backplate.
Dude it's not that easy to buy one. Also it's a tutorial and custom gpu backplates are usually made for certain cards or they might even make it at all. Do your research kid

Well, now 500$ for even a 2060 is a steal

Silly thing is their $399 rtx 3060 (yes I got it for 399 too, no mark-up) has a backplate.

My man, you just got another sub. Thanks for the info!
Thanks for the sub and thank you for watching!
I was expecting something metallic that screws into PCB with thermal pads. However, this is OK also.

Rlly helpfull u deserve more subscribers
Thank you!
Theres also a company that makes custom backplates for any gpu for less then 60$
Yeah v1 tech is such a company. Def felt like doing a diy with this. :)
Yes but for some people designing their own could be fun
Great video man thanks.
Can we make backplate at home?
Is backplated at home is harmeless for graphics card?

Hey thanks! Definitely, i'll have a look at your channel. :)
Haha now your lucky to own that 2070 backplate or not!
This is true, hah! lol
I wanted to know if you could use paper and print out a design instead of using vinyl?
You probably could, just make sure it's heavy enough weight paper so paint doesn't soak right through it.
1:48 in it sounds liek the back plate is for looks and not for heatsinking VRMs?
Correct. It's not made of metal, so it won't do anything for heat dissipation.
Keep it going
Thank you very much.
yo!! mans got the face of a serial killer XD
thanks for the vid bud
Pretty sure I have a face your mother loves. Thanks for watching. :D
idk if u will see or respond but when making a back plate does paint need to be non conductive i have seen some say yes some say no

@@MiddleofKnowhere alright im wanting to make one and maybe even a mobo armor just to kind of amp up my next build haha
@@MiddleofKnowhere sorry for another stupid question in general are clear coats non conductive like could i use any paint and then clear coat ?
How can i remove it if i use nano tape?
Heat it up maybe? I used small 3M doubl-sided tape chunks I put only on the screws so it wouldn't touch any pcb or components.

Did the tape melt? Do you have to use the tape?
Nope the tape didn't melt. You could just put the plate on the gpu directly and not use the tape at all.

@@kyrim5291 Yeah. I mean you won't really bump it when it's all sealed, so you should be a-okay

As long as it’s not conductive and you can cut it to fit yeah.

Sounds like an old laptop there. You may need to open the bottom and clean dust out. Could be a fan is clogged. You can @ me on twitter with an image.

Will it increase the heat of gpu?

Put some blue RGB in the corners of acrylic piece, this will decrease the GPU temp. :))
The paint job is....
spectacular! . . . for my first time.
Add rgb lol

Dude it’s just a backplate just buy one or like This you made one
I'm not allowed to react or have my own opinion or be dismayed and disappointed after spending half a grand? It's just a story followed by a tutorial.
Middle of Knowhere I understand but you can buy a custom one instead or make one instead of getting a cheap one that comes with it
