I haven't even finished watching this video because I keep pausing and jumping over to ERank to play around, but I've already pocketed a few gold nuggets I didn't know, and I've had ERank since the beginning of my Etsy journey in January 2023. I've been on POD for a year, and a year on ETSY. I still have a lot to learn, but what I decided a few months ago is to stop producing trends...I refuse, it seems absurd to me. Interpreting or seeing that a phrase, a color, or a design has become fashionable, and starting to produce like crazy to be one more...I don't see the point. Maybe on Amazon Merch yes, or on very established sellers on ETSY. I have preferred to open several specialized stores, I can work more in the long term, with better quality, and without the stress of fashion. For Europeans like me, it is very difficult for me to understand the American culture of buying t-shirts with silly phrases...no one would go out on the street with the majority of designs that become a trend.
The idea isn't to chase non-applicable trends. This would be a huge time investment risk. The focus should be on watching for trending themes that already fit your existing niche so that you can utilize the ideas to expand your current products. Non-applicable trends will do you no favors.
But, if you sell watercolor flowers (for example) and notice lavender is trending, this would be a congruent trend that would perfectly apply to your existing business model. Any in-demand theme can be considered a trend when it comes to keyword research. If you're already performing targeted keyword research, you're likely producing and catering to trends. 🙂
I agree. I tried the phrase-trend trick touted by a lot of the popular Etsy POD UA-camrs when I first started, but all my personal best sellers have been original ideas. Maybe that trick just doesn't work anymore now that so many people are trying out POD? I still look at aesthetic trends for inspiration in my niches because that seems to have worked for me, but I leave the trending phrases to the bigwigs who already have enough traffic to make it work.
I totally agree with you. I'm from Turkey and even though I've been living in America for 7 years and have been trying to sell products on Etsy for almost 2 years, I still haven't been successful and can't get used to the ridiculous trends. I am a simple person, I don't think much, I see, like and buy. But I find it very difficult to be successful on Etsy. No matter how much I try to follow the trends, it is not creative and very difficult to understand.

When making videos like this, can you make them longer? You explain everything very quickly, show just one or two product examples, and finish the video without going into detail. To give an example, I need to write tshirt tags, but apart from one or two tags, I can't think of any other tags. Unfortunately, Erank does not show what I want. I need a total of 13 tags and I can write a maximum of 5-8 tags without using the same words. You told us not to use the same words. So what more can I write? It is very difficult to find a suitable word and tag, especially for people like me whose English is a second language and for people who are not creative.
For some other ways to find some keywords / tags, try to think like a shopper and not a seller. How would you search for your item if you were shopping for it on Etsy? Maybe also ask some friends and family about how they would search for it. Another option is to try the Listing Helper Tool in eRank. You can type in a description of your item, and via AI, you will receive suggestions for titles, descriptions, AND tags. The Listing Helper may think of a keyword that you hadn't considered. (Just be sure to check its info also in eRank regarding search traffic!)

How up to date is eranks datebase for the EU region?
We update data for all countries at the exact same time, which is every 30 days (usually the 1st of each month). It's important to remember how vastly larger the US is vs the UK though. Sometimes it can appear that we have no UK data - when in reality, the UK just doesn't have as many shoppers. So I highly recommend using both the US and the UK data while doing moderate comparing between the two. A majority of trends and keywords aren't going to be drastically different between our countries. In fact, when trends begin in the US, the UK tends to follow - so targeting US trends can actually help sellers in the UK to stay ahead in some cases!
