Jonathan Cecil is one of the best audiobook narrators I’ve ever heard, and I’ve been listening to audiobooks regularly for over 20 years. Not only does he have lots of enthusiasm for PG Wodehouses’s work, his different voices truly sound like different people. I tried to listen to Wodehouse with other narrators and each time quit after a few minutes. None compare to Cecil.

It is such a joy to hear an actor doing a PROPER French (or whatever) accent AND being able to pronounce the actual language as well.

The convivial jabs (telegrams) between Bertie and his Aunt Dahlia in this reading are hilarious. When she calls him an ass and said it was a shame there was 100 miles between then so she couldn’t hit him with a brick, makes me chuckle all to myself.

In terms of the events of the story, this is up there with the best, even though the J&W series is so good, it's hard to put one on top of the other. What just sort of pains me in this is Bertie's attitude and pigheadedness. He's a much nicer and more amicable character in all the other stories, so it is a bit painful to see him act up like that here. Still though, he's not completely out of character or anything, I can imagine him having a few bad days, especially early on in his career with Jeeves before he knew he was in the presence of a master of caliber hitherto unknown.
