  • There s a time and place for a tire plug, but a proper tire repair means removing the tire from the wheel, inspecting the inside, drilling with a carbide bit, buffing to a rough finish, gluing and filling the hole with a one-piece repair unit. When the repair unit is set, I seal the buffed surface with a repair sealer, before mounting and re-balancing the tire -- We fix over 1300 tires a year -- See how I fix a nail hole using a permanent REMA plug/patch combination repair in my shop.

    Thank you. I have a small engine repair shop. I usually plug a tire puncture but I have a zero turn in the shop that has a cut in the center of the tread. It’s about the size of a knife blade puncture. Ordering the prep and sealant you showed in the video. Will get the other tools ASAP.

    At shop we use break cleaner to wipe off any contamination right before applying the glue

    • @georgecroney6168
      @georgecroney6168 5 місяців тому

      Liquid buffer is the right stuff. Brake cleaner should really only be used in the same conditions as paint, very well ventilated areas

    The patch I used had stickers all over it that needed to be exposed. I followed these instructions doing it wrong because the patch used in this video apparently has no stickers to expose. I recommend watching a few videos on this process to make sure you do it right.

    How do you get the tire off without breaking the bead?

    • @stevenc8140
      @stevenc8140 3 роки тому +6

      You need ratcheting tie down. Floor jack. Place tire (NOT WHEEL RIM) against part on jack that lifts car. Thread tie downs through wheel first to both sides of jack. Using shaft adjacent to jack wheels as where you place hooks. Run long piece of tie down completely under jack and then thread through ratcheting side. Tighten down tie down as much as possible. Then go over and raise floor jack. You will hear a pop! Tire bead broken. Flip over other side and repeat. It WORKS.

    Hey, so my tire is like $420 and I’m leasing my Toyota 4Runner.. so it got a nail in it about a year ago which they patched and now it’s leaking and they say they can’t fix it and they want me to buy a new tire. Can they take the old patch off some how and redo it? I feel like I’m getting ripped off.! 😭

    • @jesussavessinners123
      @jesussavessinners123 Рік тому +3

      Yes they can do that, I work on 18wheeler tires and it works all the time assuming uit was not placed properly or they probably used a patch tha was too small. I would get a second opinion, I would go to a small tire shop.

    • @doridelicious
      @doridelicious Рік тому +3

      Thank you so much 🙏 I actually told them that you put the patch on and I paid for it, it’s been less than a year and it’s not holding up so you need to fix it. I’m not buying a new tire and they said they will redo the patch so I have an appointment Saturday! 👌

    The most important part is to let the glue dry or the patch won't adhere. Ask me how I know.

    You didn’t remove the blue tape on the patch stem and under the round of the patch? How does that work ???

      Its a Minicombi patch from Rema Tip Top. It has no tape. The patch is coated with blue adhesive with reacts with the special cement.

    Would of been nice if you slowed down for two more seconds and talked about the actual patch and what you need to do if anything out from the outside of the tire “ie. trim it”

    Hmm it would be possible to 3d print a hub mount to center on a rod, should be close balance by hand. Heck today would be easy to set up 2 load cells and a hall effect sensor to grab vibration and run out electric motor to spin it up. These are balanced 3 dimensional correct? Thanks I think I will look into your materials and tools. Is ether best to seat bead? or just pop with high pressure air?

      Have had more than 1 plug fail never had a patch fail. One is like puting head gasket sealer in the coolant the other is like actually doing a head gasket job.
