Sir, you saved my bacon. This worked like a charm. I had an old kit with slightly different tools, but stuffed paper towel under the nozzle to absorb fluid fro the cartridge nozzle. I did use hot water first, then about 4 ml of cleaning solution. Most impt. was drying time. Several heavy cleanings did the trick! All the best.

cleaning kit manufacturer video's usually suggest sucking out excess ink and dumping it into a spare jar before injecting the cleaning solution. much less mess that way and then you use less cleaning solution.

I have a question. I have a Brother MFC-J5520DW and I tried cleaning the nozzles the same way you showed by plugging a tube with a syringe onto the intake port, except I used warm water. My Cyan was the one that was the most clogged and when I pressed the syringe not much was happening, only a tiny bit of Cyan was coming out onto the paper towel, then all of the sudden all the water from the syringe started squirting out of the Yellow intake port while it was plugged into the Cyan port. I played with it a little bit then water started coming out of the Magenta and Black ports... Is that normal, or did I brake something by giving it more pressure?

This process will either solve the problem or kill the inkjet. I've used it on 3 printers. Two were destroyed and 1 came out great.

I just did this fix again to the 3 color lines. It worked great. I only used about 4 mL of solution in each line. A friend of mine says his black ink line is so clogged that this won't work for him. That's either a bigger repair or it might be easier to get a new printer.

@@tealtoolguide The cleaning process has value, it can rescue a doomed printer if it hasn't gone too far. What usually happens in a bad scenario is something that requires professional level knowledge happens while attempting this type of cleaning. Such as error 50 and/or 48 (or even worse). Inkjets don't last forever.

Hello! I'm planning to start the job... Why do you think it killed the printer? Is there something that I could avoid?

You can heat the tube and it will make it flexible

The hold X to unlock printhead does not work on my MFC-J4620DW.
It just doesn't move, maybe it's an update which broke this tutorial

Just a question, did you do this for each color or does doing black take care of everything?
    Thanks
Been having either poor weak black and colors are very light and missing lines in the test page even after the standard cleaning. Will get some of the solution.
    Thanks

I only did this for black. However, two of the colors seem to have clogged just recently so it looks like I now need to do this for each individual color. Think about it this way. Each color has a separate line for the ink to travel from the cartridge to the printhead. Each line needs cleaning solution pushed through it if the clog isn't simply on the surface of the printhead.
