    I am sure people said this already but this is a graphic analogy of how the abused will evolve into the abuser. The cycle of abuse was not discussed back then, way ahead of their time. It has nothing to do with Prison. The prison is the abuse itself.

  • @rideordiewarren
    @rideordiewarren Рік тому +10

    The creaking at the beginning is a door opening in the middle of the night when dad visits…then the lyrics continues the abused becomes the abuser…I’ve come round full circle.

    One of their deepest songs imo. I didn’t think of the title back in the day. I thought it was funny cause ya know prison sex in jail. But prison can also mean trapped. Which is the case for this song.

Tool keeps coming up with these song titles where you might think one way then when you hear the song it's different from what you thought of but it totally makes sense like this title, Stinkfist, and Hooker With A Penis

    Maynard James Keenan (vocals) said he wrote 'Prison sex' about his own experience being raped as a young boy... he was shocked when Tool's then-label picked it as a single. The music video for it was animated and depicts an abuser and an abused...

    I'm sooooo behind. I'm sure by now you know the true meaning of this 'tune'. It might be the quintessential song from Tool that has a puzzle to be solved. I really like when I type my laptop knows what I'm going to say before I do. Sometimes. Back to the subject at HAND. Prison Sex is probably the darkest Tool song, but when has rape ever been not?
    This song will grow on you, but what Tool song does not? It's a formula that Tool always finds without ever trying. The crescendo is tremendous for a shorter tune. It definitely took me a while before I truly appreciated this song. The intensity just bites at you. And there's no way to make the volume high enough, at the right time, to fully appreciate it's meaning.
    Tool creates masterpieces, and nothing else. Shit, I've given myself away.

      The problem is that there's no official lyrics for Tool songs before Fear Inoculum.
      That part "have you witnessed that blood and flesh can't be trusted?" is doubled (x2) in the video but he's actually singing different lines:
      "I'm your witness that blood and flesh can be trusted and Have you witnessed that blood and flesh can be trusted? and..."

    Please, please PLEASE 🙏🏼 Do Invincible. The lyrics are so powerful. A culmination of what they have grown to become. To remain what you felt was invincibility forever is not possible, as your wisdom grows and realize as you age you accept the inevitable will happen. Plus...The bass, bass, BASS!! Lyrically, instrumentally, it is a true masterpice. And the drop at 9:36, there has never been better from Tool!!

      He's using sexual imagery to talk about religion. He was raised in a christian home and they tried to "rape" (brainwashing) him so he could never question anything. If he didn't break this cycle he would now become the "abuser" and would continue to do the same now with his kids and on and on.

    I considered myself a metal head through the '80s. It was this song that (and the ensuing darkness of metal through the nineties and beyond) helped me realize my life was much better without this music. Not that tough topics shouldn't be addressed, I just don't want that to be while I'm trying to enjoy music.
