    Nigeria doesn’t have many heros. This is one of the few National Hero. WS nothing more than a Living GEM. Go and read his books

    Yoruba sounds fascinating and Soyinka seemed awesome, especially upon finding out he also had history with Leeds University which I went to!

      Nigeria does. I am one; so are so many that you may not hear about because more light, and a bright one indeed, is shed on the few bad apples. Nigerians are the most educated here in the U S., and more. You may even have them as yout lawyers, medical doctors, etc, and just don't know it. Yes, Alagba Wole Soyinka is great, but there also many more that are not mainstream famous..🙂.

    For those who do not know, Sango, a human embodiment of the deified Orisa and divinity. Sango, was once the Alaffin of Oyo. So, the palace was the perfect place to invoke him.

    Can all these so called afrobeat musicians start using real instruments especially African drums in their music because all their computer music sounds like shit. There is a reason for instrument - it brings life to the music....so happy to see this.

    Why is this a surprise or something worth discussing? Isn't he Yoruba? Africans have really lost their way. Could you imagine French people making a fuss about Macron speaking proper French? It would be a given. It would be a story if Soyinka couldn't speak his own language. Smh

    • @Rabidanti
      @Rabidanti 3 роки тому +3

      We totally lost our way indeed. Nigerians are surprised because they see Yoruba as inferior language to English.
      So this Very intelectual man speaking Yoruba is like a very big thing...

      I was wondering why a Yoruba native speaker who writes English at the same level as Shakespeare while integrating Yoruba cosmology into that literature would surprise anyone by speaking a language he learned before English with some fluency.

      I am sorry for you people saying it's fallacy. Maybe some of you are Christians. So, this may sink into your thick skull. When Jesus said "you can tell a mountain to move from here to there ...." what does it symbolize? That there is power in your mouth. Most of you have been dumbed down to the point that there is zero self belief left in you. If you are not yoruba, you may be forgiven. But for a yoruba, it's unforgivable. The fact that it's Wole Soyinka narration even made it unlikely to be a fallacy. You ought to have been one of those students he took along. Do you think it's an act that anyone can just do? It was done by a Sango priestess. If a low level rain-maker can invoke rainfall, how much more a Sango priestess. You do not realize how much knowledge and power Olodumare has bestowed on Yoruba. Our people only have re-discover themselves and use it for good.. Until most yoruba come to that realization and live as the true Omoluabi they are supposed to be. Without that they will be living like israelites in the wilderness, not knowing their left from right.
