      None of the names are pronounced like they are spelled or have the same number of syllables you think they should have and they just sound weird once you know how to pronounce it correctly.

      Bathroom articles = Names of Swedish lakes and bodies of water
      Bed textiles = Flowers and plants
      Beds, wardrobes, hall furniture = Norwegian place names
      Bookcases = Professions, Scandinavian boy’s names
      Bowls, vases, candle and candle holders = Swedish place names, adjectives, spices, herbs, fruits and berries
      Boxes, wall decoration, pictures and frames, clocks = Swedish slang expressions, Swedish place names
      Children’s products = Mammals, birds, adjectives
      Desks, chairs and swivel chairs = Scandinavian boy’s names
      Fabrics, curtains = Scandinavian girl’s names
      Garden furniture = Scandinavian islands
      Kitchen accessories = Fish, mushrooms and adjectives
      Lighting = Units of measurement, seasons, months, days, shipping and nautical terms, Swedish place names

      once you know the rules (easy to look up), it's actually easier to pronounce them than english. Because unlike english, swedish has pronunciation rules :D

      "Du har satt din sista potatis." (Translation: "You have planted your last potato.") is a Swedish figure of speech which is almost equivalent to our figure of speech, "You are on my last straw!" in English.

    Another good one is "Nu är det kokta fläsket stekt" which means "The boiled pork is now fried"
    It basically means "Shit's about to go down"

    It's pretty amazing that he knows so many English expressions that he's able to perfectly describe each Swedish idiom with an English idiom equivalent. He's lovely.

      He's so fluent in English (especially American English) that he sounds like a native speaker. Funny thing is, he only moved to the States when he was 26 lol. He must've moved around so much with his dad and watched so many American films that he picked it up naturally. English is also a common second or third language to learn in Sweden since they are so similar.

      A somewhat old fashioned and convoluted (but perfectly legitimate) sentence to be used when a student steps out of line would be:
      "Nu är det kokta fläsket stekt! Du har satt din sista potatis och kommer få dina fiskar varma!"
      Directly translates to "The boiled pork is now fried! You have planted your last potato and will have your fish warm!"
      In essence, and in that situation, this would mean: "I have reached my limit! You are way over the line and you're due for punishment!"
      NOTEWORTHY: These are old proverbs, and I cannot imagine this sentence being said in a classroom today, but back it up about 40 or 50 years, and it might have happened! :)

      I kind of comes naturally though as a swede speaking English. I do it too, and a lot do. The melody of the English language vs for instance the swedish are so different so it feels weird to switch to the swedish melody mid sentence just to say your name. Which will be pronounced wrong by the other person any way, and swedes hate that kind of awkwardness. 😅😅

      Omg you wouldn’t like that, it is beautiful, but is only nice to spend only vacations here, the winter is the most depressing thing, it’s all dark for 9 or 10 months, and the people here is reserved, you don’t make much friends which makes it even more sad

    As a Swede living abroad and my husband not being Swedish, I can say that my husband's favourite word is fika. By the way fika, is not just coffee or tea, it's all that high calorie cakes and cookies that goes with it.

      Mon Soymon in north of sweden it’s called go’ fika when you ad cookies and cakes 😂 It doesn’t excist in the south (or not when I lived there in 2009) 🤔. I thought “GO’fika” was such a ugly remake on “Fika” when I moved here.. 😅 And especially with a north accent.. 😖😅

    Working in Sweden Fika became my favorite word. So you eat breakfast, fika, lunch, fika, fika again and then dinner. Basically it's a break where you eat and drink something

    The armchair anthropologist in me finds it interesting how English speakers' "not for all the money in the world" is the equivalent of the Swedish "not for all the butter in Smaland" - perhaps it's a reflection of what is important to a society (money vs. butter).
