    I really enjoy your videos. You exude a warmth and passion for books and reading. I am excited to be involved in Big Book Summer. I love the idea of buddy reading. There is so much more to get from books when you can discuss them with others. If you are ever looking for a reading buddy I would definitely be interested.

    Great video, Sue! Don’t worry, I also have never read the book or seen the movie though once I tried to bond with my son over his reading of it in school and it didn’t work out 😂

    Hi Sue. Thank you so much for saying such lovely things about my channel! I'm so glad that we've met here. We absolutely do have similar reading tastes. I've also been very interested in your videos about chronic illness. (I've had my own ongoing issues with an autoimmune disease although very different from yours. But that's for another time....) I really loved hearing your answers to this delightful tag. This was one of my very favorite tags to do. I have a tag video going up tomorrow, and you're tagged in it too! 🥰

      Oh, wow, Pat, I didn't know you had health issues, too - it's amazing how many people are affected by chronic (and often invisible) illnesses. We're everywhere! Sorry you have to deal with these issues, too. And thanks for the tag! I can't wait to watch it :)

      @@SueJacksonDE well, I'm much better now, but I had whole years of some very difficult symptoms. My autoimmune issues are all related to Graves Disease and thyroid troubles. Such a little gland and it controls so much. I'm very healthy now, but after all of the initial symptoms--which affected almost every system of my body--the worst of it settled into my eyes. You've probably heard of thyroid eye disease, or maybe Graves Ophthalmopathy. It was brutal. I'm stable now, but I notice--now that I'm making videos of myself talking--I can see the eye symptoms pretty clearly. I don't know if they are obvious to others, but I'm very aware of them. But I haven't been really sick for a long, long time as a result of the disease, so I feel fortunate. I just never underestimate the autoimmune response. When people tell me they have autoimmune issues, I know how very real and very debilitating they are. I'm glad that you are doing so much better now.

    • @SueJacksonDE
      @SueJacksonDE  Місяць тому +1

      @@BookChatWithPat8668 Thanks, Pat. Honestly, it's a constant struggle, still! My disease, ME/CFS, isn't strictly autoimmune, since parts of the immune system are overactive but other parts are underactive - which makes it harder to treat. And I can relate to what you're describing because I spent all last year working with my doctor to try to normalize my thyroid function. It was WAY off (hypo) and made me so much sicker. A big part of why I am doing a bit better this year is from finally finding the right combo of meds and doses to improve thyroid function (and it's still not great). It's like playing whack-a-mole - as you say, every part of the body is affected by an immune disorder and you just get one aspect treated effectively and another problem pops up! But I have great doctors and have been fortunate to find treatments that help. Many with ME/CFS are bedridden. Thanks for sharing your story. And BTW, I have heard of TED, but I didn't notice it in your videos :)

      @@SueJacksonDE thanks for your kind words about my eyes. I’m sure it’s much more obvious to me than to others at this point. Sometimes, they don’t look symmetrical, and they definitely have a high degree of proptosis or bulging. But when I was really sick, I had double vision, multiple eye infections, and really, the inability to get my eyes to function together. A nightmare. I went from extreme hyperthyroidism at the outset of the disease to extreme hypothyroidism after my thyroid gland was radiated. I’ll spare you the details here. It’s difficult to get it balanced, so I completely understand how that could have complicated your already serious situation. I’m glad things are at least better than they were. You look wonderful. I hope you continue to feel mostly well! 🥰

      I don't know! We never read any Hemingway either :o! But lots of Steinbeck, Dickens, and Shakespeare :) My 12th grade AP English teacher just passed away last week, and my classmates and I have been sharing fond memories of the great books and fun discussions we had in his class!

      @@SueJacksonDE Your comment made me think of the three English teachers I had. Freshman year the male teacher loved poetry and mostly taught that. Sophomore teacher taught plays. Junior year taught a lot of dark books like Edgar Allen Poe. (I graduated that year, so I can't say what senior year would have brought). I read The Outsiders somewhere in those years, if it wasn't for school, it was on my own. I don't recall loving it, but it wasn't awful either.
