@@nicolemiller8314 I noted that too! He was in a vehicle driving around if you look at the timeline it WAS around lunchtime I am NOT defending him, he drove right past the shooter when shots were already fired so I’m assuming he was told and rushed back? I’m just saying I don’t think mass shooters schedule regular “lunch breaks” but I have to disagree with you that he is also at fault.and shouldn’t he have a master key for the whole school given they had to find a janitor and borrow his key to get in.

@@maileannlouie I agree with the officer having a right to a luch/bathroom break and someone mentioned (not sure if it’s true) that Uvalde only has 4 officers for 10 schools. Anyway, all schools I’ve worked in the following people have master keys to all the rooms in the schools: principal, vice principal, secretaries, nurse, janitors (never chatted with the Sri but I’m sure he had one too) in addition to all those that had master keys, there was a back room where the janitor could just make more master keys in the school.

I avoided our school resource officer like the plague, his nickname was Farva and if you haven't seen Super Troopers you won't get the joke. Seriously, the thought of that cop supposedly running into an active shooter situation blows my mind. He was only there to hit on underage girls, and act like he was the baddest MFer on campus. So I have a hard time believing he'd do anything to save lives...

As someone who works in law enforcement, I can say this officer hit the nail on the head. Yes, his officers are probably well trained and have a good head on their shoulders. Unfortunately, we have many that are not trained well and are sitting through the active shooter classes wondering what they are going to have for lunch. All the SRO's I have had contact with are very good at communicating with the student body, are very personable, and their overall demeanor is somewhat different than the officers working the streets. What happened in Uvalde was a catastrophic error. Only the incident commander can answer why he made the decision to stand down. It makes me sick to think about the children in that classroom who were calling 911, or already having been shot, quite possibly laying there bleeding out. It's pretty universal now as to what needs to be done if ANY officer comes across this situation. Eliminate the shooter. I know in my heart I would not hesitate to respond and do just that. If ANY LE personnel have to think one tenth of a second about whether they would RUN TOWARDS an active shooter situation, hand in your badge and gear and resign. You make us all look bad.

Another thing that happens with training when the attitude is "this won't happen" or "we know how to do this and find the fact we're being made to do it is insulting to our egos" the trainees will bitch and moan about it being a waste of time while they could be out doing "real" work or home enjoying time off. Just my 2 cents from having spent 20 years training soldiers and the more common type of complaint I would encounter when complaints were voiced. In the Army however I would very much impress upon them the fact you're a soldier 24/7 and you owe your fellow soldiers and the taxpayers every ounce of effort because once shit goes down its too fucking late and when it goes bad and you blew your chance to become proficient the blood will be on your hands.

That’s 10000% not the case. (at least not everywhere). I have 100% witnessed the School to Prison Pipeline firsthand in different districts across the country. Sadly, as we sit here in 2024, there are still school districts that have officers in schools that have NO business being near a school, let alone working as an SRO. The FIRST MISCONCEPTION is that just because a police officer works inside a school, means that makes them an SRO!😳 That couldn’t be farther from the truth. It absolutely is NOT.
What makes an SRO is PROPER SELECTION of the person. Selecting someone who is more concerned about kids becoming successful adults other than just a “qualified” or “willing” to be a police officer inside a school. It takes a special type of person. The best police officer there is out on the street can be the worst officer there is inside of a school. And it can be difficult . The folks like me aren’t super common, but they do exist! This is why selection is so important. But in a close second is TRAINING. Not just law enforcement training, but SPECIALIZED TRAINING to work with and around kids. Recognizing certain behaviors, learning about autism, ADHD, and just being TRAUMA informed!
To your point, there are sadly still school districts across this country that aren’t doing anything more than a “checking a box” that they have a badge and a gun in the school. As if that makes me feel better in my child’s school. Uh NO.
So ask questions. As a parent you absolutely have the right to know what kind of Officer is in your child’s school. But I say this, if your child isn’t coming home and talking about their SRO at their school in a good way, then you probably don’t have what you should inside the school! Force the school to make that change!!
Law Enforcement should be one of the smallest parts of the job of an SRO.

My kids have Autism and they would have the SRO walk one of them around when he was upset, telling him to ignore the bullying he was enduring. When I had to file a police report about one very specific death threat a kid made the SRO tried to talk me out of making it. Imagine if we had schools that didn't need "resource officers", bulletproof glass, locked doors, teachers with guns, like EVERY other western nation, because... wait for it... EVERY SINGLE GUN IS REGISTERED AND TRACKED. The US has 41% of all the WORLDS personal firearms. The US has over 400,000,000 guns, with less than half registered. Switzerland is the only country comparable to the US in this regard. Just about every citizen has been trained, no one can leave the house with a loaded gun (ammo and gun must be seperate and secured), and if not, be prepared to be stopped 100 times and questioned on your way to the shooting range... also huge background checks where they interview your parents, second grade teacher, and you get personally signed off by the President of Switzerland. The US now has states with "constitutional carry", which means NO ONE can question you having a gun. You do not have to have a license/permit, registration, and the gun can be locked and loaded ready to go. Switzerland had it's last mass shooting over 35 years ago, and 3 people died. Switzerland even has a huge annual 3 day beer and gun festival, where every one there is walking around with guns. The US is now less free than Switzerland because we have to lock down and fortify schools, churches, theaters, concerts, grocery stores, etc...

A SRO like this gentleman could have made a big difference in Texas. Even though the shooter had an automatic weapon, he talks about running toward the danger to save the lives of students. This is where training and experience should take over. In the case of an active shooter, the hope is that officers will react accordingly to eliminate any threat that puts members of the school community in harm's way. There have already been many questions about whether or not this was done in Uvalde. It remains to be seen if this issue will be dealt with honestly or covered up by 'active investigations' of police examining the actions of other police.

Implementing a more direct notification system is a no-brainer. A keyword, pattern matching or simple ai algorithm can monitor posts and instantly report to a human response monitor or the authorities.

I recorded the part where he got angry with us (both73) at wasting his time when it seemed he might take us in!
I wanted to correct him but didn't want to be arrested. I called the Non-Emergency number and was told to leave a message for the Watch Commander, who didn't answer and never called me back.
These Orders are given for the Victim's safety; lives could be lost if they fail to execute on the Order.
We had to endure more harassment, stalking, sexual predatory words + actions, etc. for another six days until the Hearing.
The fact that a Judge would grant the temporary order shows they were convinced the victim was in danger for their life.
That the police let the perp go just emboldens him more and leaves the victim quaking in their boots, fearful 24/7 for their life & safety.
In my case I've started having severe chest pain and exhaustion from not sleeping.
This is not Serve & Protect.
Best wishes + prayers to all the families + community affected by this tragedy, Cathy in California 🧓 🙏 🌌

Wow. I'm very sorry for your situation. I've experienced similar negativity from some of the LE here in the Stockton/Lodi area.
It sounds like you have good documentation and at least one judge that understands the situation. Thinking out loud, I wonder if you could sue them for some sort of dereliction of duty, or something. Unfortunately, it often seems like the only thing these departments understand is financial damages. Your situation is something anyone outside of those officers would agree is a serious problem, those officers need to go. Also, you need to be able to be safe.
I hope you're able to get help with this for yours and your community's sake.

The killer fired over a hundred rounds with an AR15 in the first few minutes so the children he shot would be dead or past saving because of the extent of the injuries. The officer in charge seemed to assess that all the children were dead and they were dealing with a barricaded suspect rather than an active shooter. I don't understand how they made this assessment.

Why did no one report him, and also why wasn't he reported for making threats at school of shooting it up? They had warning signs for years, and nothing was ever done to get this kid into therapy or onto a restricted list for firearms at least for a couple years until he'd grown up a little.

He's right. A good resource officer shows a good school culture. I asked our local middle school what they do about bullying. Their answer was "we don't have that problem here". So we attended a different school that had active school-wide consistent policies that were research based and very successful. They had an excellent resource person (non public-safety) they made a real difference.

SRO's are step 1 on the school to prison pipeline. He states that their job is to be "a mentor, counselor, teacher" if that is the case, where do the jobs of the teachers fit in? In the schools that I attended, the SROs were deeply delusional in thinking that they were regarded as friends or respected, as they managed to create that illusion by creating a culture of fear. It was very easy to get on their "sh*t list" by not smiling warmly at them or laughing at their pathetic jokes. Although I never threatened or caused trouble in school in any way, my high school SRO told me that I was on his "usual suspects" list and was "interviewed" four different times about events I had absolutely nothing to do with. I graduated from high school with a 3.9 GPA, all I ever wanted was to keep my head down, study, and finish school without getting in trouble because I didn't want to kiss the SROs' boots on a daily basis. I was more afraid of the SROs than any of the other kids or anything that ever happened at school.

I have an honest question if somebody could please answer... Why does CNN seemingly never cover anything about our economy or about our ongoing border crisis or the incredible inflation that we are all suffering through right now, soaring gas prices, Hunters laptop or even record breaking murder numbers in major cities?! These are all things that affect every American every single day. It just seems that 90% of the content on here is Russia Ukraine China and Trump.

They actually DO talk about inflation, gas prices, etc and WHY those things are happening (they have nothing to do with Biden, those things are happening worldwide). There is no crisis at the border, things slowed down during Covid and have picked up again. They have talked about Hunter but basically NO ONE CARES because no one voted for him. Unlike Trump Biden does not allow his family to run the country. Hunter is a non-issue. And yes, they do talk about high murder rates and why they happen, the biggest issue is mental health and guess who doesn't want to spend money offering mental health service? The GOP.

@@ynotaz The cops didn't go in because they thought all the kids were dead after 400 rounds had been discharged by the shooter. The cops did not know there were kids inside calling 911. The gun seller is not a shrink and not qualified to determine shit other than the thorough background check the kid passed. The technology will not help when teachers prop doors open. The fact that women no longer sit on the porch and gossip about everybody is why the psycho kids go unchecked and unchallenged, nobody is paying attention. No gun law can change this.
