Quite right streamers have made listening to music easy / lazy , apart from that streaming for me opens up a larger listening platform from across the world, listening to new music that I’d never would of come across , then i can decide if to buy the CD or LP , for £10 a month sound quality is V good , all the formats have there +& - all depends on the recordings . Having A turntable/ CD player & Streamer works hand in hand for myself . Thanks for another great video .
I have a streaming subscription with Qobuz and like yourself, if I like an album, I will purchase it. The difference is that I buy a download version, which automatically downloads to my server. The main reason I changed from physical media is because I ran out of storage space despite several purges of CD’s that I no longer listened to. I still have around 450 CD’s but have imported the contents to my server.
@@jamesfarrow6752 A sever could be my next purchase, playing through different Dac’s could open up a whole new listening experience. It’s when to stop & be content.
To isolate little speakers, use double yellow dot squash balls cut in half. So you'll need four balls, about ten quid. Actually pretty good at isolating anything.
Remember kids.... it's all in the quality of the mastering and your Spatial acoustics NOT 'vinyl is warmer', 'streaming is too analytical' bollox. Open your minds, open your hearts.... don't talk shite.......
I thought it was loads of vinyl and far too much jazz 😂 I don't lnow how i missed pearl. Ive build very similar transmission lines with drivers from the same manufacturer i would have liked to have heard the difference.
Hey I have an LP12 and Uphorik phonostage and sometimes with some records it's better than my digital source with the same song/recording, especially the difference is noticeable between streaming and local NAS files and CDs, but sometimes it's the digital source that sounds better, especially when it comes to clarity and dynamics with acoustic instruments. I don't have a general preference in other words, it all depends on the track/file, except that generally local NAS files and CDs are better than when streaming.
I watched the 2 hour video on yt of the show. I'm always amused about all the hype over streamers and yet it's almost always 16bit 44.1k they use as source material! 😂 I've also never been impressed by any hires digital over cd. Cd or Vinyl for me always. I'll never get a streamer. I love my physical media too much.
Bought some GAIA'S from the Bristol show quite a few years ago. They'll surprise you. Stopped my large display cabinet rattling and opened up my Focal Aria 926's.
I went to the show and I totally agree I found the streaming source sounded really clipped which I think linn let themselves down by not using the lp12
I've got the isoacoustics pucks under my standmount speakers and their isolation platforms under my turntable and CD transport - great products, so recommend you give them a go Phil.
Same, I have 8 of the smallest pucks under my standmounts; gave a performance lift plus I live in a flat so helped with the aim to be neighbour-friendly. I'd read a review where the writer said they weren't far behind the Gaia feet in performance but far cheaper; that made the pucks a no-brainer for me at 8 for 80 quid.
Great to meet you on the Sunday Phil. Hope you didn't think i was a bit mad ( just a little star struck!) I couldn't agree with you more, far too much reliance on cds and streaming! Even Harley of Pearl Acoustics was using ripped cds to show off the Sibelus. The Linn speakers sounded completely shite to us. The rega speakers were awful too. Rogers stole the show for us.. the sound was amazing for the size.
Totally agree on the Rega Aya speakers; what on earth was wrong with that system? It sounded broken. Wished I got in to the Pearl room, and Rogers too.
Thanks. Great video. I was hesitant to get subs myself. Especially in my 12x12x8 ft room. But after getting 2 REL T Zero MkIII subs. I could never go back to regular 2 channel again. And they integrated very easily. About 5 min to dial them in actually. But that’s why I went with REL. And why I didn’t get big huge subs either. It’s important to consider the room size IMO. ✌️
Saw a few turntables around the show; the nice chaps on the Chord Electronics stand let me unwrap and play my new copy of A Light For Attracting Attention on their Planar 8-fronted desktop system. Audio Note had their turntable playing on their small system and another brand (PMC maybe?) were using a Michell Gyro SE but overall streaming was definitely in the ascendancy.
No sign of the all new Rega... I mean Exposure, turntable. WhatHifi did an overview article recently without even mentioning the 'similarity' to a Rega3/6!
Agree with PMC sound, could never really put my finger on it on why couldn't get into it. Linn room was strange... Rega had nice idea for vinyl display.. kerr acoustic sounded excellent... Larger companies charging a fortune seeking maximum profits whereas more affordable system sound hell of alot better
I saw you in the Linn room and was going to say hi but you must have been even more disappointed than we were as you left only after a few minutes. They did play the Sondek and it did sound ok but not worth the money. I totally agree with your view about the Neat room, plus he had the wonderful Well Tempered turntable playing.
Spendor BD1 had a Coles supertweeter - I've heard modern supertweeters and I agree that they do something which, to me, sounds like adding an 'airyness' to the sound
Yes I would recommend the isoacoustics range. I originally bought some of the Orea pucks to try under my turntable because the rubbers on the existing feet had degraded and I suspected they might be the culprit. They were. I then went on and fitted Gia feet which neatly bolted into the plinth bolt-holes and were more convenient. I now use Orea pucks under my phono stage shelf and under my server/streamer. The Gia feet are really designed for floorstanders and the beauty of them is you can choose between M8 and M6 fittings.
I’ve only heard a demo of one pair of super tweeters at work, I’m pretty sure they were Tannoy. It was quite surprising but they definitely added something to the sound.
Supertweeters do work in an inexplicable manner. For some time I used Tannoy ST-50s in conjunction with Tannoy D-300 floorstanders and it wasn't just the upper frequencies that were enhanced as bass performance was also improved.
Me and my son visited the Linn room just after the show opened on Sunday and the demo man said they were using their room correction system with all the room size and temperature fed into the system, but the system had ''corrected'' the sound to what the room temperature would be like in a couple of hours time, my son lent over to me and said '' does that mean it's going to sound crap now, I had to laugh. They did have an LP12 that probably cost more than I would pay for a car and it was used but the main demo was streamed, the LP12 demo man was introduced as the person who was still interested in the old fashioned way of reproducing music. At this point we left, Also we both thought the show leaned heavily towards the high end, all in all a disappointment.
I remember reading that super tweeters whilst playing higher than humans can hear affect by intermodulation of the sound band that we actually hear, this makes treble sound more airy and clear to us. To be fair I have no experiance but remember someone explaning this with a chart and it seemed to make sense.
Bristol was my hifi show... Went expecting to be blown away with all the high end gear compared to my humble system... Really disappointed.. some stuff sounded good to me but nothing really show stopping... Probably my old ears .. still very disappointing overall...
I had similar experience in a hi-fi show last year. I heard some systems that were 100K and more, and wasn't exactly blown away by them. I came home and listened to the same demo tracks on my modest 8K system and thought they sounded at least as good. I felt great, as I'd just saved myself 92K 🤣
Love your content Phil but surely you could run to a better camera ? That aside, keep it coming. Also, totally agree with your Linn comment. They seem obsessed with detail and resolution, yet end up leaving the music behind. Their kit is more sterile than an operating theatre, apart from the LP12, and they want you to fork out £150k + to kill every ounce of emotion and musicality. I can also recommend the IsoAcoustics Aperta speaker stands. I've had them for a number of months in my bedroom system and they work really well. The 155 model will support most bookshelf speakers and sell for £199, so not mega expensive. They also do a plastic composite version for £100.
I agree. The electronics do nothing for me which quite the polar opposite of my LP12 that never fails to engage with me the emotion and foot tapping ability like no other TT I’ve owned and I’ve had a fair few.
I agree, there were some 'speakers there cost a lot more than £30,000 one pair was over £40,000 with an option of upgrades pushing them to over £ 50,000.
The Bristol show was stuffed full of crazy money gear and not much of the affordable stuff; more like a supercar show. I really liked the 'cheaper' Audio Note system they had but even at £5K, that's a lot of dough for me and probably a lot other hifi enthusiasts too.

Really interesting move for Exposure to release a CD player, look forward to the review.
The Pearl's are demoed with Rega and Sugden on his UA-cam Channel. Probably right up your street I would think...
Harley is wonderful on their channel. I'd love to hear the Sibelius in person.
Agree Pearl were the best sound. Played Bob Marley vinyl when there. Linn always sound underwhelming at shows. Now just crazy expensive.
Wish I'd been able to get in to hear them.
Glad you found out about Pearl. Bucket list / endgame speakers unless you are into those massive ‘murican towers.

Cant stand streamed music , definately not engaging .Sounds bland in comparison .
Steamed vegetables are tasty though....sorry had to
@@philipknight3270 haha just corrected it , thanks
Hi! Any news about the new Rega Brio at Bristol Hifi show? Release date, specs? Thank you!
I thought it was loads of vinyl and far too much jazz 😂

Come on Rega, sod the fake wood, bring back the classic green finish!

That 50th LP12 looks hideous. Much prefer the original.
Hideously expensive too. Maybe they weren't demonstrating it because they know the sound doesn't match the price.
@@DrOz-007Definitely far too expensive for linn products

Pearl do things properly.

Are the new Rega Aya speakers stillborn?
Tried them against my existing Dynaudios and they were worse. ‘Clanky’ is the term that comes to mind. Maybe they have some synergy with Rega amps?
Their Aya system at the show sounded poor.

The kerr acoustics stand mount speaker sounded fab
We thought the same! They were amazing speakers along with the Rogers and Proac's
Highlights of the show for me on the Friday were all turntable based: Audionote; Supatrac; Origin Live and Rega.

B&W DM4 Speakers used Coles Super Tweeters, as did the BC1s. You are right about Sub Woofer/ Harmonics, they definitely affect the midrange.
A very basic understanding of Fourier synthesis explains why a super-tweeter is not snake oil.

Nobsound and other companies make excellent products for speaker etc-: at reasonable prices.👍🍻
I’d like Rega to build a ‘budget’ cd transport to feed the digital ins on my elex mk4. Like a Saturn without the DAC and associated parts.
