Why Wako does not have Millions of subs is beyond my understanding. Watching him for so many years is like therapy...reminds me of Mr. Rogers in that regard.
That’s so interesting, in Hawaii we use coconut oil or cut up coconuts for the oils, the higher carbon content of the blade the blacker it turns but no rust and it keeps it safe and sharp and when chopping it helps reduce friction, and it helps weather proof wood and gives it a nice darker color too
Awesome! I used to look for this oil because samurai sword maintenance recomendations. Never found it, except buying samurai swords maintenance kits (with litte brass hammer, powder, etc). A good replacement for camelia oil (not better, but closer than other oils) is Coconut oil. It´s food safe, same skin and hair properties, etc. Here in south America is more easy to find. Regards from Argentina.
I am glad i found this channel again after youtube had that issue with unfollowing for unknown reasons a few years back, always good and well thought out information well presented!
Hi Doc ... Bushcraft Samurai is back 😉 I like to see more Videos from Japanese daily Life. For instance in a nice Outdoorshop😁 all the Best for you and your Familie.
Best Knife care! and Sword care obviously! I always been upset about Americans recommend mineral oil because of health issues! Thanks Mr. Wako to get this right!
dip that handle into the oil, let it drip off and wait for a few hours...then polish it with a towel. if you want to seal it forever use beeswax kooked with linseadoil and kameliaoil. 50/25/25.
I use mixed wax- virgin olive oil and some herbs. It's a medicine for dry skin and general skin use but, I found it does the best job on wood! oil+wax, all of these natural, excellent quality! You can make your own recipe at home. That's by far the best for axe handles too! It offers maximum protection and makes the grip antislipery, while it has a great natural worm feel!
Hey virtuovice, you can be more efficient with the oil if you use microfiber cloth (the kind you use to clean your glasses). Some oil is wasted when you use cotton towel because it gets soaked in.
you just have to be careful, natural oils can go rancid, so if you are storing it, it might be better to use mineral oil on the blade, because mineral oil does not go rancid.
100% pure camellia oil is recommended if you use the knife for a food related purpose. If the knife is not related to food at all, mineral oil is more recommended. www.amazon.com/Oshima-Tsubaki-Camellia-Hair-Care/dp/B0022NHBFK/ref=lp_3037658011_1_1_a_it?srs=3037658011&ie=UTF8&qid=1550906224&sr=8-1
Does anyone know if this needs to be applied daily, monthly, etc? I use Tuff cloth on my blades but really need something for my wooden handles/scales.
Sensei...there are versions of mineral oil available in drug stores here in the US that are indicated as laxative, I use this for food prep knife presevation in a wood block after wash and dry. It is harmless..but the mineral oil from hardware stores is toxic...correct.
Yep, some mineral oils are food safe and the bottle will usually say so. For example Ikea sells a mineral oils which is meant for treating wooden kitchen utensils and is food safe.
He stated towards the end it’s black and white ebony wood. I’d be interested if he does anything for his gun stocks too…I own firearms and have never done anything with the stocks but do apply oil to the exterior metal parts from time to time to ward off rust.
It’s good to see the knife king is back ....

Don't insult Mr Rogers

Just before watching this I was rubbing Camilla oil on three French pocket knives! I love your videos, thank you for putting in all of the work.

I always enjoy your vids Doc
Thank you for the advice.
Huh, I had no idea.. thank you!

Very cool knife too...Thanks.
kameliaoil is too thin. carpenters usually use 50/50 kameliaoil and linseadoil.
The only potential issue with linseed oil, at least the variety in my local hardware store, is it is not food safe.
Absolutely! :-) + cedar oil
Buenos vídeos !!¡ saludooos
Very Useful. Thanks for sharing. How about the metal portion?
Love these videos
I dip all leather sheaths in coconut oil, and maintain the knifes with coconut oil, sometimes mineral oil
Thank you sir ! Might we see a video of how to sharpen a straight razor?
これ私も使ってます。前までは556を使ってましたが、体に悪そうだったので止めました。
does the Camellia oil has a smell?
ツバキ油に匂いはありますか?
Link? I cannot quite understand what type of oil is being recommended.

Hows the new watch wako? Any new flashlights? Thanks for another video!
Does anyone know if this needs to be applied daily, monthly, etc? I use Tuff cloth on my blades but really need something for my wooden handles/scales.
I only have one wooden handle knife in my collection, I believe canvas micarta is maintenance free, is this a correct assumption ?
If wood use camellia oil, how about your handle micarta to take care sensei?
How about a 2019 hunting season lineup video? Would be interesting to see its current state.

Agreed. It's also very useful as a lubricant/carrier on oilstones for the same reasons.

Beautiful knife. What wood is that? How do you care for your Gun Stocks?
He stated towards the end it’s black and white ebony wood.

Do you have a link where I could purchase that oil?
Does it change the stability of the grip?
Shop staff tell me 大島樁 is good for knife, I don’t believe at that time because its for hair and skin shown on packaging 😂
