One important difference between this and $300 worth of waterstones, aside from the obvious skill and mess factors.
Waterstones have difficulty with many supersteels. The diamond stones that this comes with don't have any difficulty with supersteels.

First they said to buy their belt sharpener.
Then they said to buy the Ken onion bc it fixes all the problems with the other one.
Not long after they said to really get it right you should buy the belt grinder attachment so the Ken onion will work better.
All of a sudden you don't need any of that stuff, you need our Precision Adjust sharpener. This really is the one.
But it wasn't so you spent mire money on 3d printed parts to fix all the flaws.
Worksharp to the rescue with the Elite Precision Adjust Sharpener. This is really really the one you need. It upgrades the one that was the one and now this is the one.
Then they gave your maxed out credit card a break for a minute so you could forget everything else they told you for years and buy the PRO PRECISION ADJUST SHARPENER. We swear. This really really is the very last one. Just 300 more of your hard earned dollars. Put the last 1290.00 of stuff we sold you on ebay and give us 300 more.

well, It would be weird to buy all of them. And many systems dont replace one another. This is good for v edges where as the Belt grinding attachement is good for convex. They dont replace one another.
If you want all and are willing to put effort into learning water stones are the way. If you want a sharp tool without a big learning curve these are very cost effective and good solutions

To me, guided sharpening systems are another tool in the tool box. Often new knives come with messed up, uneven grinds that need fixing. Ill take the new knife, and regrind at the desired angle using an Edge Pro Apex. After the edge is set, I just use Naniwa chosera stones to sharpen. Works for me.

hey guys, if i'm interested in hollow grinds for all my knives, is there any functional reason to get bevels and stuff just right/even?
      what im asking is:
if im a cash-poor moron and just kinda' eye my edges, can't i just kinda' do the freehand -stone-sharpening thing and make a very sharp angle (and keep things a bit less even, as far as both sides of the knife being perfect)?
or is it important to make the grind even from both sides...?

Worksharp has made videos showing the differences in how you stroke the stone across the knife. For best results you have to just do a single stoke straight down(like you did with the leather). It’s tedious, but it creates the sharpest edge.
Sweeping from base to the tip of the knife would still sharpen, but didn’t cut very well.
Going up and down vertically like Martin did is the best if you want to reprofile/remove a lot of material. imo most people do it that was because it’s the quickest way.
I recommended going to worksharps channel if you want to see the experiments they ran.

@@DutchBushcraftKnives the three methods, pulling only towards yourself, pulling back and forth and stroking along the blade all produced sharp edges but very different edge profiles; 1st was a very smooth edge, 2nd was rougher and produced a more jagged edge (better at cord cutting etc) third was just alot longer but provided a good smooth edge (all under a microscope) but in the end the sharpness results were minimally different for the average person.

Great video guys! I have a Wicked Edge which is the holy grail of sharpeners but it’s ungodly expensive and is best for V-edged, you can do convex edges but you have to use leather strops and all this adds up, I have $1,400 invested in the damn thing which is ridiculous unless you are sharpening as a business. Great for all my folders, nothing better for re-profiling, you set the edge angle using a digital angle cube so it’s as accurate as it gets but I have two dozen Bark Rivers and all my other fixed blades are convex. I’m replacing my A2 barkies I bought 18 years ago with versions in CPM3V and need a faster way to restore the edges and I think this WorkSharp is the way to go.

Wicked Edge is not cheap though, but you can go all the way down to glass film planers to get the most insane fine edge where strong larger carbide steels like Maxamet, K390, or Rex45 that would typically show chipping at these thin edges, can come out very uniform.

In all honesty tho, i had a worksharp and it did the job, just took alot longer then my current setup, and some edges came out wonky due to the movement from it. I've looked into these Worksharp systems a while back. To me, this product is a reverse-engineered KME knife sharpener. I'm glad I bought my KME when I did. KME also has a lot of add-ons (including a convex edge tool) and really good customer support. The stones are top quality as well. A KME with the Spyderco Sharpmaker is a great combination.

I prefer the KME because you can get stones that aren't KME. Some sharpening systems have proprietary ways to attach the stones.

Ya this is similar to the Lansky Diamond set which does an ok job if you have a lot of time. If you want the best edge, bite the bullet and get a Tormek T8 or even T4.

    Died with the jokes 😂
But on a technical note, you can get good results even having no experience with sharpening with the Lansky deluxe system

would this work on a knife of extreme hardness like a custom dulo? I have naniwa super stones and even they take quite a bit to make a change i wonder if these would even touch the profile.

$300USD is a little steep compared to the regular version. I got an adapter to use the regular version with your own diamond plates so you don't need to use Worksharp's.

Worksharp forgot to make an actual case for this $299 sharpener, you just have to store it in the box it came with, I love that they addressed some people issues with the previous model but I won't buy without a case.

I’ve used a fixed angle system for years, but have recently taken to freehand sharpening because it’s faster.
It would be cool to see you guys review the worksharp guided sharpening system with upgrade kit as it is closer to freehand sharpening. and indeed can be used to freehand sharpen.
