Presti is pandering to the players, which is a smart move as a GM. He’s signaling to potential free agents that he agrees with players and is on their side.
I've been hearing this argument for years but they already know the answer. The owners & management are pulling the strings on players sitting based on whatever the analytics say. We are not in the 90's where the average player was making 4 million a year, superstars included. These owners are paying their superstars generational wealth and consider it to be an investment. It's a bad investment if the player you're paying 50 million a season to is sitting on the bench in street clothes because of a ligament tear that your analytics expert said could have been prevented if he didn't play in the back to backs. I don't agree with it but it's not my money paying them so I understand from their pov.
Except the analytics have PROVEN to be ineffective in preventing injuries. Teams have even reduced the number & intensity of practices. It's a combination of ALL parties involved. The players who WANT to play are still playing.
Something else that doesn’t get talked about much is that some of these players just aren't built to last. They're playing longer and were always injury prone
Load management causes injuries. Second issue is specialized movements. Injury prevention starts with doing multiple movements to improve strength in little used basketball muscles. I believe the current strength training is great and does that part. But load management definitely contributes to joint, ligament and tendon injuries.
This is what happens when you empower the players. LEBRON JAMES started all of this. The league literally had to create an in season tournament because they have lost so much revenue because the league is soft, stars aren't playing, and the fans are sick of it.

Now these guys feel like we're privileged to watch them play. I love basketball but the hell with these millionaires with their selfish asses.
I remember when Michael Jordan was with the Bulls.. He played 82 games most of the times. Every once in a while you would see 80 alor 81. Then he also played both ends of the court. Times have changed
Players are not fit. Look at Luka, Embiid, Zion, Jokic, basically anyone except LeBron and Giannis verus MJ, Pippen, Rodman, Malone, Kobe, Garnett, Robinson. DWade etc.
The only reason players are always injured is because they play at a high/fast pace. Running up and down the court constantly cause stress on the body. Scoring 120+ points is unnecessary. You have to slow the pace down like the 90’s and early 2000’s.
They should get rid of the preseason games and essentially start the regular season earlier. Play teams in series like baseball. Get rid of the in season tournament. No play-in 1st round playoffs 3 games series. Have practices, strategize. Everything is a high pick in roll, find the match up and go to the hole or shoot a 3.
Presti's out of his mind with this nonsense. These guys are not building their bodies up to play 82 games. They hardly ever practice during the season anymore. They don't play 3 games in 4 nights anymore. I'm not buying the space excuse. We are told that this generation of players are the best conditioned ever, yet they're whining about playing 65 out of 82 games? Please
I think these dudes coast during the regular season. Then playoffs start and the intensity ramps up and their bodies are not used to it. Calves, Hamstrings... etc get strained.
This is when Rob’s age comes in…the avg NBA player plays year round in Highschool, they play basketball 24/7. There’s more AAU, there’s more holiday tournaments etc… then they go to college and hit the NBA, they already have more miles on them than back in the day
Two big reasons for the increase in injuries is number one. The game has changed and players have a bigger area to defend, And coaches are afraid to lose their job so they play their players too many minutes.
Then what’s the reason? 65 min games makes sense. The pace of the game which is insane imo has sped up from the 90’s, and far more leaping so that’s bound to take a toll on the athletes.
Prestis reason is wrong but there is a pretty logical reason why injuries are up over the last 5-7 years. Because of increase in spacing and the pace there’s more ground to cover on a possession by possession basis. Defending 5 out and closing out and recovering to shooters at the three point line puts more strain on ur knees and lower body in terms of start stop and changing directions. Teams like gs and Denver are running multiple screening actions that players have to navigate and that puts more pressure on their joints. Plus transition plays with the increase in athleticism today. Back in the 80s 90s guarding post ups and isos are more about positioning and holding ur ground. Yeah ur facing a greater strength imbalance but ur not in a more compromising position for an actual injury compared to todays game. Think about during pickup when yk the opposing team can’t shoot from perimeter or dribble it’s easier to guard. Ur mostly just standing there and offering a contest ur not really expected to move or worry about recovering as much. Ur not as tired and ur not wearing out ur legs

@@rankyb8088 Yes that is true, but those were not the circumstances that he alluded to for this season. The point is, Presti is saying these things even though this year he was not hurt by them.
I wonder if the pace of the game is a factor. I don't know, but running up and down the court and fast" breaking" every time is also a physical burden. I grew up in the Jordan Drexler era, and they seemed like iron men. At that time the Blazers did play with pace. Maybe load management is more of a factor.
Basically, he's saying that there should be 5-10 games a year with no defense. He wants the regular season to be the all star game from 2023-2024 lmao.
It's lack of practice time. It's guys not going through the physical conditioning that college provides. I ponder the strength and conditioning going on as well. Lastly, it's about mentality. It's a mentality to push through minor injuries. It's a mentality that takes pride in playing 82 games or close to it. Etc.
How come no one mentions how the game is so spread out in today’s game in comparison to the 90s. You watch games back then and everyone is playing inside the 3 pt line. Today’s guys have to cover so much more ground and it’s a faster game with higher skilled players. It’s not a lack of strength and conditioning.

84% of stars played the first half of the season. That dropped to 72% after ASW. The lowest number in the last decade. 85% of stars played in the Playoffs - the 2nd lowest % in the last decade. In the 2nd half of the season, AVG Team FTA dropped from ~23FTA/game to ~19 FTA/game. If you simulate a full season at 19FTA, it'd be the lowest in NBA history. Presti provided this data in his exit interview. Y'all really content hungry on this one. Just disagreeing to make noise. Rob just like to yell
Just go with an NFL schedule. Play one game a week and play 20 games, then go back to 3 game series with a 5 games championship game. These everyone gets a trophy people are so soft. We need people that can fight through hardship again and appreciate the people paying their salaries.
i disagree with kerry kittles if they were covering a soccer field then yeah... but guys taking 2 extra steps to get to the get 3 pt line and cover somebody is not causing injuries unless they are sub par athletes
I agree with Rob, these players need to put some fat on them in off season, their so twisted up of muscle tendons ligaments all year round so something will pull or twist easier, players covering more distance makes sense too
Its the complete opposite. The reason is players dont play ENOUGH so their bodies arent used to the intensity of an NBA season. These guys get paid so much money that they could care less about "practicing".
What's wrong with these guys.. if you moved the games back to a 65 game season.. players will still play 55 -60 games. This era is kinda soft when you think about all the sports science, accommodations up grades that these guys get.. and players still want to sit or players are constantly getting hurt.
Lebrons first run to the finals in 07’ the East was TERRIBLE that season… Lebron didn’t face a team with a winning record until the ECF. Washington and New Jersey were 41-41 that season… Cleveland was the second seed that season…
It’s the lack of practices. And if it’s not the number of practices it’s the intensity of the practices. And lack of strength and conditioning.

Using a guy like Kawhi who has chronic knee issues as an example was disingenuous by Rob.
DWade etc.
Chris has got to show his Warrior’s fanboy side there at the end. You know Rob was right
Go watch 80,s and early 90’s playoffs
What is making Rob Smile at 7:19 lol
Chick from Magic City thanking him for all them singles he dropped 😏
Celtics Porzinguis
I like how chris IMMEDIATELY defends the GSW 2015 run when rob brings it up
And he said “gsw still had to go through Lebron” lol like Lebron didn’t also lose his point guard.
@@shawnba2294 he literally lost his second and third option lol
Hes the ultimate currysexual knowing they only won that series because LeBron was by himself
He’s was saying they they don’t know play 82 games so they don’t get enough reps in so their bodies aren’t as strong and they get injured
No play-in
1st round playoffs 3 games series. Have practices, strategize. Everything is a high pick in roll, find the match up and go to the hole or shoot a 3.
I wish I was only required to show up for 80% of the time to work. NBA players these days are so soft.
Underrated comment
yup
This is when Rob’s age comes in…the avg NBA player plays year round in Highschool, they play basketball 24/7. There’s more AAU, there’s more holiday tournaments etc… then they go to college and hit the NBA, they already have more miles on them than back in the day
Maybe yall are getting hurt cause yall resting too much it’s been proven load management doesn’t decrease the injuries
I whatched Gordon Hayward break his freak in leg 1st game of the season. Injuries happen
He didn’t build nothing. All three of them guys were lottery picks. Never wanna chip with all that talent. He’s not Bob Myers.
Two big reasons for the increase in injuries is number one. The game has changed and players have a bigger area to defend, And coaches are afraid to lose their job so they play their players too many minutes.
And porzingas for the celtics
At age 40, MJ played ALL 82 games. This generation is so Cottonelle SOFT!!!
Why this didn’t happen in the 90s and it was more Physical 🤦🏽♂️😭
Maybe the pace of the game and lack of conditioning might have something to do with it and Just a thought
Baseball players are regularly given days off, pitchers get scratched from starts often and nobody complains...so why is it different for basketball
Then what’s the reason? 65 min games makes sense. The pace of the game which is insane imo has sped up from the 90’s, and far more leaping so that’s bound to take a toll on the athletes.
Truth is they traded away Lively on draft night for Cason Wallace. That’s where they messed up
The Thunder GM should tell the greedy owners to shorten the season then. That way the players have less wear & tear on their bodies.
The west has been some of the best defensive basketball in the playoffs and best I've seen in a long time
Prestis reason is wrong but there is a pretty logical reason why injuries are up over the last 5-7 years.
Even in the Clippers besides Leonard, Harden and Paul George had many injuries throughout the season
kareem was 40 and PLAYED 80 GAMES!!!!
S g a weighs one sixty five Soak and wet. CHET Weights 166 Soak and wet Of course. They're going to get hurt. Players have been getting injured for the past five years
Thunder were one of the only teams with no injuries.
@@lafa626so the thunder not that good, they succeeded because of all of the injuries?according to Pressti.
Chet lost a season off a lebron layup, remember?
@@JoeNeely Maybe he thinks that in private. We do not know.
@@rankyb8088 Yes that is true, but those were not the circumstances that he alluded to for this season. The point is, Presti is saying these things even though this year he was not hurt by them.
Very odd that the regular season wasn’t issue back in the 90’s & 80’s
what do you expect when they all stood in the paint and had no athleticism 😂🤡
I wonder if the pace of the game is a factor. I don't know, but running up and down the court and fast" breaking" every time is also a physical burden. I grew up in the Jordan Drexler era, and they seemed like iron men. At that time the Blazers did play with pace. Maybe load management is more of a factor.
In season tournaments 🏟️ is straight garbage…..🗑️
Basically, he's saying that there should be 5-10 games a year with no defense. He wants the regular season to be the all star game from 2023-2024 lmao.
After the expansion, it should be 32 teams, you play every team twice, one home and one away. It’s that simple.
If the defense is causing injuries then why didn’t more players get injured more in the 90s and 00s … they could mostly hand check as well
If they could play 82 games in 1980 then They need to stop bitching
It's lack of practice time. It's guys not going through the physical conditioning that college provides. I ponder the strength and conditioning going on as well. Lastly, it's about mentality. It's a mentality to push through minor injuries. It's a mentality that takes pride in playing 82 games or close to it. Etc.
Sam Presti has been GM for 17 years with zero championships. Fantastic executives win rings at some point.
Finals appearance, fantastic executive for sure. Not all win championships
exactly he's more lucky then anything ...
He can evaluate good talent but he can’t put together a team that fits well enough to win that includes the coach
Starter shirt fresh
It can’t be they’re covering to much ground because they shoot way more open 3’s so the ground ain’t getting covered either
Players are having longer careers nowadays, it definitely is a factor
They should keep the regular season and postseason awards together. Players shouldn’t be able to make all
NBA teams if their team go home in the first round.
Their regular season awards for a reason
@@isaiahh4108 need to be taken away. There is a reason in sport like soccer the ballo d’or is revered and the FIFA player of the year.
@@5starathlete804 the MVP is revered more than the Ballon D’Or they spent the last 20 years handing that award out too the same 2 guys robbed Lewy Griezmann Mbappe and Haaland in the last 8 years alone
Google for "GM Sam Presti 2023-24 End-of-Season Media Availability | Full Press Conference | OKC Thunder". 1:15:40 for the original quote..
He is not challenging the 65 rule.
Also 1:41:00 for a extra mention
It’s really crazy they all complaining about that 65 game rule lol the NBA already giving them 17 games they can miss without consequences. It’s like the more money they make the less they wanna play.
Finesse era....
Reality is, no one really cares for the regular season like that. Make it 50 games a year and pay less. We do not know the impact these games have on the players.
Bring back the butter. Them dudes n the 90s use to play 48 minutes smoke butter n drink colt 45 trick all night then play 48 minutes the next night.
Dude listed 3 things i really liked about this year lmao way to NOT understand the average fans complaints about the modern NBA.
That's cap 🧢
The players are not conditioned properly. Who is the OKC strength and conditioning coach?
Cap finna glaze fasho🙄
Just go with an NFL schedule. Play one game a week and play 20 games, then go back to 3 game series with a 5 games championship game. These everyone gets a trophy people are so soft. We need people that can fight through hardship again and appreciate the people paying their salaries.
New generation is built soft
i disagree with kerry kittles
if they were covering a soccer field then yeah... but guys taking 2 extra steps to get to the get 3 pt line and cover somebody is not causing injuries unless they are sub par athletes
Washington and New Jersey were 41-41 that season…
Cleveland was the second seed that season…
