I just converted from Skyrim Xbox to PC because of the modding capabilities. I have to say that this series is awesome! Extremely well laid out and in depth. It clears up a lot of the mystique to modding this game. Many thanks for your effort and hard work in putting this series together.
MechaShredZilla Yeah me too! lol i played it so much on the ps3 and heard people talking about mods and decided to go for it, it takes a lot of learning, but so worth it in the end!
I have almost 200 mods installed and have been modding the game for more than a year but yet I'm watching this. Why? Well i have never watched a beginners guide before I just jumped in and learned myself. Therefore there still might be some basic things I'm missing, also sometimes it can be a good thing to go back to the simple again. After seeing this I realize that I have been way to careless about me uninstalling mods some mods, however I have always realized that it would be a bad thing to for an example sit in a touring carriage and then uninstall the mod that actually makes them touring so I haven't really had any problems.
+Alex Rowlands Even as a parody, I bet it would still be a good tutorial :P I really want him to do an audio version of the book LOTR or Harry Potter. :)
Gopher, you just saved me hours of hair-pulling (and I don't have much left to pull). Thanks for these extremely detailed, patient, and absolutely perfect tutorials! Just completely bloody brilliant!!!
Your series is absolutely amazing with great detail for us who are new to PC gaming and modding. Although I don't know at this time if you do similar guides for the Fallout series, know that I would eagerly watch each. Great work, and it's obvious you put a lot of time and thought into these.
Gopher, I started modding Skyrim after seeing your Skyrim Mod Sanctuary videos. I've been using mods for quite a while, but I'd like you to know I'm still benefiting greatly from these guides you're making. Things I had to assume before are now confirmed, and I'm more aware of how to avoid screwing up my game. Thanks for being awesome.
I'm a bit of an Immersion junkie, I like a story and content to pull me in Vanilla Skyrim had the story but the textures needed to be seriously tweeked to help draw me deeper into the game. Now it's harder to get away from the computer because the beauty of enhanced graphics and immersive content I've added makes me stay up till the early morning hours. I'm truely loving what the mod authers and community have done to make this game even greater.
your videos are godly. ive been modding for a few months and ive been butchering it. im watching your videos and relearning it all slowly and this series is amazing and is showing me a bunch of stuff i missed, especially in load order.
I became your fan after these videos, great explanations, easy to follow, amazing job! I am more confident on installing mods without messing up my game. You are awesome and deserve lots of cookies… again :3
Im extremely experienced when it comes to modding both fallout and elder scrolls, so i just had a look at this vid out of curiosity, and i must say, Gopher, you are very at teaching and explaining things. You would make a great teacher if you ever wanted to be one and im sure you're a great father as well! : )
Thank you, Gopher, for the videos! I'm building up for my second playthrough (first time on PC) of Skyrim and relying on your vids to get me up to speed before I start!
This is a great series! I just realized Gopher sneaks in other lessons within each main topic. So instead of just knowing about water, I learned about installing/uninstalling with saved games.
there is a pure waters legendary file now, so you will just need to download one single file if you are using the extra DLC. by the way, thank you for this series, this really helped me alot! enjoy modding!
I really like your videos Gopher! My English is very poor (I am from the Czech Republic - a small country in the middle of Europe) but I understand you every word. You are amazing. Thank you very much!
Even for players who are (somewhat) experienced with modding, this video series is very helpful. Looking forward to the next video in the series. If I may suggest a topic, perhaps graphics (texture/mesh) improvements. Mods ranging from Static Mesh Improvement Mod to the Skyrim Ultra HD Texture Pack).
That is the great thing about having such a well supported (by the community) game, isn't it? With a little digging and effort, every player can have the Skyrim they want. :)
I enjoy features from both Pure Waters & WATER, and the two can be used together, if stacked correctly in load order. Probably not a beginner maneuver, but worth knowing, later down the line.
same here, I watched the beginner's guide series just in case he might mention something new that was overlooked or something in previous modding videos
Diving feet 1st back into Skyrim. Using your totorials (very good by the way). I am an experience Elder Scrolls modder but for some reason I have had repeated issues with corrupt save games to the point of any save games being unloadable. So using these tutorials as a starting point (safe approach).
Thank you gother, just because of your detailed explenation i could get at least a bit into modding skyrim and having my fun with it Sorry for my bad english :)
Thank you for doing these well informing and depth detailed tutorials, Gopher. I do hope if you cover tips for installing heavily scripted mods that usually have conflicts/incompatibly with other mods. Oh, it would be great if you could instruct us on how to install large mod such as Falskaar, since NMM complains about it, which force alot of newbies to install it with other programs.
Might be worth mentioning that when clicking the uninstall/stop/deactivate mod in the mcm menu, to wait a couple of minutes after doing so, as scripts can take a little while to finish running.
at the begining I thought this serie would be about creating your own mod. it's still interesting as knowledge is always welcome, but will you ever make a video about how to create your own mod?
As apposed to today students are told to express there options (anagodgee, miss spelt again no dout) Bottom line is we all have different learning style and learn better some ways than others Thanks for you efforts again BTW
To all of you who are new to modding or are following Gopher's instruction videos - beware! The Pure Water mod caused a problem in my load order which I detected when I reached part 6 of the series and tried installing the Climates of Tamriel. For some reason the Pure Water mod had missing masters - the dawnguard.esm and the dragonborn.esm, although I have none of the DLCs. I uninstalled it and managed to run the game again but I was picking my hair off wondering whats the problem. Im new to modding as well and just wanted to warn people like me.
+antikoerper256 That's why it has missing masters... Because you didn';t have the DLC's. Pure waters requires those DLC's in order for it to work. You either get the DLC's (which you should, by the way ), or get the vanilla version Pure Water.
Personally the gameplay and immersion mods are the most important for me. But yes, when it comes to modding. It can take days or weeks to find what you are looking for. Once you got it, you cant go back.
Realvision ENB works well with Climates of Tamriel and Enhanced lighting and FX looks beautiful. Thats what I'm using and Gopher has a video that shows the install of these mods together if I remember right. I never modded before and Gopher makes such great videos that I'm currently modding my game like crazy ;-).
Check the ENB series that Gopher has started. While I do not use ENB's myself on my current system, RealVision Performance ENB looked great, and seemed to fit your wish list.
ALSO deleting it WILL delete your grafix and gameplay options so go to options and go to ultra or high or whatever you choose and then start the game and go to the ingame options to fix your keyboard keys and settings again
you got to update this video, the first link is gone,, its some ruffled feathers mod not w.a.t.e.r , i guess that mod make put every mod he ever made into one big mod and im not sure i want all that new stuff he added in,,, could you please check it out let me know if that is still something i need and will this throw off this video set by not getting it?
Ah, lucky. Thanks. I know of the RealVision ENB. I'm subscribed to SkyrimTuner, hodilton, Gopher, and HoppingMadMedia. He uses it with RLO in Let's Play Skyrim Moddded to Hell. It does look great. However, it looks better for HoppingMadMedia than it does for SkyrimTuner. Maybe its RLO, but I prefer Enhanced Lights and FX and Climates of Tamriel. I do like the Vibrant ENB. Sai reuploaded it and used it is SMS. Episode 110 really shows it off in interiors alongside Enhanced Lights and FX.
like when i disabled 2k textures because of performance issues, so i went back to using the official HD dlc texture pack and i actually like it better now than ever before!
Running BOSS like that will maybe not show in NMM untill you reload it, I notice Wrye Bash does an update in the fly and shows the changes but NMM may not be programmed to do that. BOSS will still work as long as no files it touch's are locked by another program. How ever some may not call it best practice, I don't think it a worry
Hi gopher, If you're going to make a part about performance I would suggest looking at the Gigantic Skyrim FPS Performance Patch, It does improve your performance alot.
I love the part where you say "You never know, something may have changed since I made this video" Yep - water has allready changed, he removed the wave option to have waves in skyrim and not just solstheim and leaves that to another mod that does exactly that - called Waves :) Just a heads up for people watching this video.
Never uninstall a mod mid-game, it fucks up your game. Test mods out and decide if you want them or not, keep older saves from before you installed the mod handy if you don't want to use it. I'd suggest reinstalling the game and following gophers guide for which mods you want to use : 3
Hey, we're lucky he's spending his time uploading videos for poor idiots like me, who cannot even afford a gaming computer, so that we will learn how to mod if we get one. These videos will be immensely helpful, in the event that I one day fulfill my dream of modding Skyrim to its full potential. So, thanks Gopher.
True that. I constantly hit that issue with things like Book of Silence, Immersive Armor/Weapons/Stuff, texture packs and the like. NMM does great with the smaller stuff, but has a tendency to choke while downloading mods in the hundreds of MBs.
As to questions why he did it - it is his final version and he wanted to leave as little world edits in his mod as possible. It's all on his mod page :)
This man could read me a phone book and i'd be intrigued.
I know right :p I enjoy watching his videos just because of the voice :p
Mona Lisa I love watching his videos at night before bed, he has such a comforting voice!
It's hard complement, I like you
i fuckin' love your voice. You remind me of the narrator from The Stanley Parable
funnily enough, he did do a lets play of that.
haha that's awesome coincidence. i love you guys... smoke weed everyday. then play Skyrim
***** im Filipino... my race is "Tagalog" hahahahahahaha
***** was making a joke based on what you said.
English is a language. Tagalog is a language.
No that's not xenophobic it's a little racist if you want to nitpick.
I really like Gopher's videos because he makes me feel like he really cares and wants me to learn.
it's cause he does bro why else would he be doing it
I just converted from Skyrim Xbox to PC because of the modding capabilities. I have to say that this series is awesome! Extremely well laid out and in depth. It clears up a lot of the mystique to modding this game. Many thanks for your effort and hard work in putting this series together.
Same here man, PS3 to PC played Skyrim for 2 years on console boring as hell, now playing this on maxed settings with ease.
MechaShredZilla Yeah me too! lol i played it so much on the ps3 and heard people talking about mods and decided to go for it, it takes a lot of learning, but so worth it in the end!
MechaShredZilla same lol
karam marji Same to me too xD
I have almost 200 mods installed and have been modding the game for more than a year but yet I'm watching this. Why? It's been 7 years since these videos were made and they're still the only things I could find to walk a newbie through modding in plain English
i want gopher to teach me how to live my life
+Alex Rowlands lmao
+Alex Rowlands Even as a parody, I bet it would still be a good tutorial :P I really want him to do an audio version of the book LOTR or Harry Potter. :)
Sir, I cannot thank you enough. It's people like you who makes us feel that every hardcore once started as a noob. It's inspirational.
you sir have the best voice for tutorials it sounds like the stanley parable
Amazing job.Seriously, I have never seen anyone making a video like this...I subscribed!
Your voice is up there with Morgan Freeman and James Earl Jones.
What about Bob Ross ;)
You've got to love his voice.
It's been 3 years, and i still come back to these videos for his lovely and patient voice :')
Gopher, you just saved me hours of hair-pulling (and I don't have much left to pull). Thanks for these extremely detailed, patient, and absolutely perfect tutorials! Just completely bloody brilliant!!!
Thankyou Gopher for this series. its amazing what people like yourself give to the community.
These are more than just tutorials, these are full on classes, very descriptive and very well made, thank you :D
I'll cross the road how ever I dam well want thank you!
Your series is absolutely amazing with great detail for us who are new to PC gaming and modding. Although I don't know at this time if you do similar guides for the Fallout series, know that I would eagerly watch each. Great work, and it's obvious you put a lot of time and thought into these.

This dude is an amazing teacher! I love how he goes slow step by step on how the modding process. Overall great guide! 1+SUB.

I always set the water graphics to ultra on every game, i really like good water effects.
your videos are godly. ive been modding for a few months and ive been butchering it. im watching your videos and relearning it all slowly and this series is amazing and is showing me a bunch of stuff i missed, especially in load order.
I became your fan after these videos, great explanations, easy to follow, amazing job! I am more confident on installing mods without messing up my game.
You are awesome and deserve lots of cookies… again :3
These take more time to make than a week of lets play videos so it would not really make much difference :) Sorry.
This series is amazing just what me and my friends have been looking for. Thank you Gopher keep up the great work
Im extremely experienced when it comes to modding both fallout and elder scrolls, so i just had a look at this vid out of curiosity, and i must say, Gopher, you are very at teaching and explaining things. This is a MUST WATCH before you start moddin, IMHO.This is HELP SOOOO MUCH.
Thank you Gopher!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you, Gopher, for the videos! I'm building up for my second playthrough (first time on PC) of Skyrim and relying on your vids to get me up to speed before I start!
Almost the same for me. I do use the desktop as a sort of workspace when extracting mods and copying files, so the cleaner the desktop is the better.
This is a great series! I just realized Gopher sneaks in other lessons within each main topic. So instead of just knowing about water, I learned about installing/uninstalling with saved games.

I love this series had skyrim for about 1 year or 3 this series helped me alot thx man
Thank you Gopher! I've been waiting for this series to continue for a while now :3
Even for players who are (somewhat) experienced with modding, this video series is very helpful. Looking forward to the next video in the series. If I may suggest a topic, perhaps graphics (texture/mesh) improvements. Mods ranging from Static Mesh Improvement Mod to the Skyrim Ultra HD Texture Pack).
I am loving your videos! I really respect and appreciate the way you take your time to explain for us with lesser knowledge of using mods. Thanks!
I agree with Laezar1, you would be an awesome teacher, and me, for example, would see all your mod tutorials with no exception.
30fps for me all the way through. Checked the original footage and it seems solid enough too. UA-cam throttling the video stream for you maybe?
That is the great thing about having such a well supported (by the community) game, isn't it? With a little digging and effort, every player can have the Skyrim they want. :)
If I get time, but there are a lot of videos covering it already. A lot of good ones by Bethesda.
I enjoy features from both Pure Waters & WATER, and the two can be used together, if stacked correctly in load order. Probably not a beginner maneuver, but worth knowing, later down the line.
same here, I watched the beginner's guide series just in case he might mention something new that was overlooked or something in previous modding videos

best modding tutorial by far thank you for your work
Seems fine for me. Been pretty stable for several days now. Maybe I just try at the right times of day now.
If you delete the d3d9.dll file does it start?
going through these step by step thanks again
The W.A.T.E.R mod is changed a lot, it is called the The Ruffled Feather now...
Pure waters is the best choice imo, it's also the one that gopher uses in his let's play. So if you're unsure on which one to pick, pick pure waters
Gopher You are amazing. Thankyou.
Great stuff mate. The series is coming along very well :)
Thank you gother, just because of your detailed explenation i could get at least a bit into modding skyrim and having my fun with it
Sorry for my bad english :)
Thank you for doing these well informing and depth detailed tutorials, Gopher.

Oh, it would be great if you could instruct us on how to install large mod such as Falskaar, since NMM complains about it, which force alot of newbies to install it with other programs.
These videos are perfect. thanks Gopher!
Just wanted to say very good video. I been teaching myself how to mod and this video has helped out a lot. Thank you :)
Loving these Gopher. Especially since my new laptop is capable of running skyrim decently.
On my desktop? Why would I use anything else?
I couldn't tell the difference between the waters so I decided to look at yours and they're are exactly the same so that must mean it worked. YAY :D
These take a lot longer than my Falskaar playing :) If I stopped playing all together it might mean 1 more video a week (with no lets play vids).
Exactly what I was going to say. Part 4 of my ENB series is what RaisedFlipper6 should check out :)
LONG LIVE GOPHER!!!! LONG LIVE GOPHER!!!! LONG LIVE... Sorry I got a little too excited... (I might love you... um)...
Might be worth mentioning that when clicking the uninstall/stop/deactivate mod in the mcm menu, to wait a couple of minutes after doing so, as scripts can take a little while to finish running.

Excellent video, really good series at a really good time :-)
You may have just described the true meaning of modding in one single post :)
i never noticed the relatively poor quality of the water in skyrim until I saw this vid :(
Gophers your tutorials are great! keep up the good work :)
Very well made and informative video!
Gopher would be an amazing teacher!
+Uncle pennybags I'm sure I hear somewhere that he is a retired teacher. Could be wrong though.
I would have loved to be his student.
+Uncle pennybags agreed. :)
That's where I fucked up kept saying yes to all and started getting crashes instead of yes to mod Gopher your my savior
I am using the Bethesda HD textures.
Check the ENB series that Gopher has started. While I do not use ENB's myself on my current system, RealVision Performance ENB looked great, and seemed to fit your wish list.
Nice ending! Keep up your good videos.
Gopher, what FOV do you play skyrim in?
Always watch your vids in bed, they put a smile on my face as I fall asleep. :)
Love-um
Actually "huh?" is the most polite response to such a comment. Caps lock and swearing is the most usual response.
ALSO deleting it WILL delete your grafix and gameplay options so go to options and go to ultra or high or whatever you choose and then start the game and go to the ingame options to fix your keyboard keys and settings again

You sir, are my hero
At 18:28, was it only me that heard: "Palace of the Spinning Arrows"?

Oh, THIS is why Nexus is crawling to a halt while I'm trying to update my mods. Thanks a lot, Gopher! :p
very educational not one of those just get it done type videos
He already has a series on comparing some ENB. He also made at least one video about how to install RealVision.
True that. I constantly hit that issue with things like Book of Silence, Immersive Armor/Weapons/Stuff, texture packs and the like. NMM does great with the smaller stuff, but has a tendency to choke while downloading mods in the hundreds of MBs.
